Frost damage of concrete has significant effects on the safety and durability of concrete structures in cold regions, and the concrete structures after repair and reinforcement are still threatened by cyclic freezing and thawing. In this study, the new-to-old concrete interface was reinforced by steel bar. The shear strength of the new-to-old concrete interface was tested after the new-to-old combination was subjected to cyclic freeze–thaw. The effects of the diameter of the steel bar, the compressive strength of new concrete, the number of freeze–thaw cycles and the freezing temperatures on the shear properties of new-to-old concrete interface were studied. The results showed that, in a certain range, the shear strength of the interface was proportional to the diameter of the steel bar and the strength of the new concrete. Meanwhile, the shear strength of the reinforced interface decreased with the decreasing of the freezing temperature and the increasing of the number of freeze–thaw cycles.

In relatively cold environments, the combination of freeze–thaw and steel bar corrosion is a key factor affecting the durability of concrete. The adjustment of the stirrup ratio would change the mechanical performance of surrounding concrete, while the circumferential compressive stress can further improve the bonding performance. Hence, based on eccentrically tensioned specimens, the influence of corrosion of stirrups and freeze–thaw of concrete on bond properties is discussed in this paper. The monotonic pull-out test of reinforced concrete specimens is carried out to study the variation rules of bond strength and slip between steel bar and concrete under the coupling action of corrosion rate, freeze–thaw times and stirrup spacing. Based on the experimental data, the empirical formula for the ultimate bond strength is obtained, and a bond–slip constitutive model is established considering the stirrup spacing, stirrup corrosion rate and freeze–thaw times. Then, a refined finite element pull-out specimen model is established by ABAQUS simulation, and the numerical simulation results are compared with the real test ones, so as to make up for the deficiencies in the test and lay the foundation for further finite element analysis.

Abstract In this paper, an overview focusing on the bond behavior of recycled coarse aggregate concrete (RAC) with steel bar is carried out. The results show that the failure modes of RAC specimen were not only influenced by a single factor, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the influence of various factors on the failure modes of RAC specimen; The steel bar diameter, the concrete cover to diameter ratio and the replacement rate of RCA all affect the load-slip curve of RAC specimen; Bond strength predictive equations and bond-slip relationship models of RAC with steel bar has been summarized to ensure engineers to better understand their applicability; The influencing factors of the bond behavior of RAC specimens including the replacement rate of RCA, the concrete compressive strength, the steel bar type and steel bar diameter, the steel bar embedment length and the aggregate performance; The freeze-thaw cycles and the steel bar corrosion all affect the bond behavior of RAC with steel bar. When freeze-thaw damage and steel bars corrosion reach a certain degree, the bond behavior of RAC with steel bar deteriorates.
