Qatar is one of the major natural gas (NG) producing countries, which has the world’s third-largest NG reserves besides the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Since the produced water (PW) generated in the oil and gas industry is considered as the largest waste stream, cost-effective PW management becomes fundamentally essential. The oil/gas industries in Qatar produce large amounts of PW daily, hence the key challenges facing these industries reducing the volume of PW injected in disposal wells by a level of 50% for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the reservoir. Moreover, it is important to study the characteristics of PW to determine the appropriate method to treat it and then use it for various applications such as irrigation, or dispose of it without harming the environment. This review paper targets to highlight the generation of PW in Qatar, as well as discuss the characteristics of chemical, physical, and biological treatment techniques in detail. These processes and methods discussed are not only applied by Qatari companies, but also by other companies associated or in collaboration with those in Qatar. Finally, case studies from different companies in Qatar and the challenges of treating the PW are discussed. From the different studies analyzed, various techniques as well as sequencing of different techniques were noted to be employed for the effective treatment of PW.

The National Energy Board (NEB) is a Canadian federal regulatory agency whose mandate under the NEB Act is to regulate the construction and operation of interprovincial and international oil, gas and commodity pipelines; the construction and operation of international and designated interprovincial power lines; the setting of tolls and tariffs for oil and gas pipelines under its jurisdiction; the export of oil, natural gas and electricity, and the import of natural gas. International and interprovincial pipelines are subject to the statutory requirements of the NEB Act and Regulations made by the NEB. The regulations typically incorporate consensus standards such as the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Z662 - Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems). The NEB tracks and monitors compliance to ensure that companies fulfill the requirements of the Act and Regulations as well as any conditions imposed at the time of approval of the facilities. In carrying out its mandate, the NEB promotes the safety of people, the protection of property and the environment, and economic efficiency in the Canadian public interest. Recently, the NEB has implemented a formal system to track and monitor compliance. In approving new projects, the NEB imposes conditions outlined in approval Orders and Certificates. It then tracks these conditions for compliance, completeness and effectiveness. The compliance information is gathered mainly from activities such as inspections, audits and company filings. This paper explores in greater detail the NEB’s role in terms of tracking and monitoring compliance, NEB expectations of regulated companies and the effectiveness of a self-reporting condition. It also discusses the advantages for companies to be in compliance and its importance.

The Yamal oil and gas province (OGP) is strategically important for the Russian gas industry. In the coming decade, gas production in Yamal is expected to grow to 180–200 billion cubic meters per year. The main goal of the article is to solve a scientific problem consisting in the study of the spatial organization of the development of gas resources, determination of the rational structure of reproduction of natural gas reserves in the Yamal oil-gas-bearing region in the context of the modernization of the Arctic gas industry complex. The article assessed the gas resources of Yamal, revealed trends in the economic development of natural gas fields, presented the characteristics of investment projects based on the fields being developed. An analysis was carried out that made it possible to differentiate the deposits by the degree of their prospects, and a strategy for expanding the hydrocarbon potential of Yamal was determined. It was revealed that the main areas of production in the Yamal oil-gas-bearing region are associated with the development of deposits with a high level of Cenomanian deposits. Such deposits are characterized by a higher increase in the capitalization and profitability of investment projects in real time compared to fields located in the northern and far eastern seas, including on the shelf of the Kara Sea. It was concluded that the strategy for the reproduction of hydrocarbon potential will be aimed at conducting prospecting and exploration in order to transfer forecast resources to industrial reserves of natural gas. The study applies a general scientific methodology providing for systemic and comprehensive approaches to justify the spatial organisation of gas resources development in the Yamal oil and gas bearing region. A significant body of factual material on the state of free gas and condensate reserves in Yamal has been analyzed. The results of the research were obtained with the use of comparative-analytical, statistical methods of economic analysis.

AbstractMethane, a potent greenhouse gas, is the main component of natural gas. Previous research has identified considerable methane emissions associated with oil and gas production, but estimates of emission trends have been inconsistent, in part due to limited in-situ methane observations spanning multiple years in oil/gas production regions. Here we present a unique analysis of one of the longest-running datasets of in-situ methane observations from an oil/gas production region in Utah’s Uinta Basin. The observations indicate Uinta methane emissions approximately halved between 2015 and 2020, along with declining gas production. As a percentage of gas production, however, emissions remained steady over the same years, at ~ 6–8%, among the highest in the U.S. Addressing methane leaks and recovering more of the economically valuable natural gas is critical, as the U.S. seeks to address climate change through aggressive greenhouse emission reductions.

Offshore structures are used around the world for many functions, and these structures vary according to the depth of the water, the depth of water and environmental conditions are the main factors that determine the type of platform and method of drilling, appropriate planning, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and start-up. At the beginning of the twentieth century, oil and natural gas were discovered in the Middle East, specifically in the Lebanese basin. This discovery opened the door for Lebanon and entered the club of oil states. This paper is a study and analysis of blocks No. 4 and No. 9 that may contain the largest amount of oil and natural gas in addition to studying and analysing the types of marine installations (fixed and movable) and provide the best suggestions for the type suitable platform for the process of extracting oil and natural gas from the Sea of Lebanon according to the depth of water and factors Natural. The option of a drillship for drilling is the most appropriate option, given the lack of sufficient information about the nature of the soil in the Lebanese Sea. The drillship is considered an optimal solution given for ease of movement and in the absence of oil, the cost is much lower than the installation of fixed platforms. Semisubmersible rig for drilling and Tension Leg Platform or Semisubmersible Platform as well as Subsea System for oil/gas extraction are good alternatives to be employed in the Lebanese oil/gas fields.
