Background: Determining occlusal plane is challenging and difficult aspect during complete removable partial denture prosthesis rehabilitation. Numerous soft tissue landmarks like commissures of the mouth by Gillis in 1933, parotid papilla by P. F. Foley and G. H. Latta in 1985, height of the retromolar pad, the lateral borders of the tongue etc. had been proposed to assist clinician for determining the occlusal plane. No universally accepted reliable anatomical measurement has been proposed to assist in determining of occlusion plane for different ethnic groups in context to Nepal. Material & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the 60 dentate subjects visiting Nobel Medical College, Nepal, from February 2019 to July 2019. A customized occlusal plane relator was used to evaluate relative parallelism between occlusal plane and alatragal line with respect to different borders of tragus. All the data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results: Maxillary occlusal plane was found to be parallel with the line drawn from ala of the nose to the middle of tragus in 66.66%, followed by inferior border of tragus in 18.33% with the least parallelism in superior border of tragus 15%. Relationship of maxillary occlusal plane with alatragal line was not statistically significant among Aryans and Mongolian ethnicity Conclusion: This study showed line joining ala of the nose and middle border of tragus is parallel to maxillary occlusal plane. And no difference was found for Aryan & Mongolian ethnicity in relation to alatragal line and maxillary occlusal plane.

Background: Hypothyroidism is associated with many biochemical abnormalities including increased serum creatinine and uric acid levels. Many studies were done abroad regarding serum creatinine and uric acid levels in hypothyroid patients. We designed this study in our population for evaluation of serum creatinine and uric acid levels in hypothyroid patients. Objective: To assess serum creatinine and uric acid levels in hypothyroid patients and to find out relationship of creatinine and uric acid levels with severity of hypothyroidism. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cross sectional study to evaluate the serum creatinine and uric acid levels of hypothyroid patients and to find out relationship of hyperuricemia and hypercreatininemia with severity of hypothyroidism was done in the department of Biochemistry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka. Results were compared with that of age and sex matched healthy euthyroid controls. Statistical analyses were performed by using SPSS for Windows version 10.0. ANOVA and unpaired ‘t’ tests were done to see the significance among the groups and between groups respectively. Pearson’s correlation coefficient test was done to see the correlation of serum creatinine and uric acid levels with the severity of hypothyroidism. Results: Mean serum creatinine and uric acid levels in cases were 1.38 ± 0.53 and 7.00 ± 2.54 mg/dL respectively compared to 1.01 ± 0.17 and 5.21 ± 1.35 mg/dL in controls. Conclusion: Mean serum creatinine and uric acid levels were found significantly higher in hypothyroid patients compared to controls. These findings suggest that hyperuricemia and hypercreatininemia are associated with hypothyroidism. Therefore, patients presenting with these biochemical abnormalities are recommended to be investigated to explore hypothyroidism. Introduction: The exact position of the Parotid papilla and commissure of the lip plays a crucial role in determining the maxillary occlusal plane which directly facilitates rehabilitating edentulous patients with a removable complete denture. Since the beginning, many authors have conducted different studies regarding its position but multiple variations in its location have been noted. Also, this type of study has not been conducted in the Nepalese population which drags the urge to determine the position of these soft-tissue landmarks in context to the Nepalese population. Objective: To determine the position of parotid papilla and commissure of lip in relation to the maxillary occlusal plane. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the 45 dentate subjects visiting Nobel medical college from November 2019 to April 2020. A vestibular impression was made, stone index fabricated and vernier caliper was used to locate position of parotid papilla & commissure of lip. All the data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results: The mean measurement of distances between maxillary occlusal plane and parotid papilla was 3.69 ± 1.19 mm and between maxillary occlusal plane and commissure of lip was 0.41 ± 0.83 mm respectively. Conclusion: This study showed that the position of the parotid papilla was superior to the position of the maxillary occlusal plane with a mean distance of 3.69mm. The commissure of lip was found to be at the level of maxillary occlusion plane in highest number of cases followed by a superior position with least at the inferior position with respect to the maxillary occlusal plane.

Objective: The study aims to evaluate the emotional, behavioural, and social effects of single or multiple anterior tooth loss. It also compares the effectiveness of the removable and fixed prosthesis to address the impact of anterior tooth loss. Material and Methods: The study was carried out on 70 subjects who presented to the Department of Prosthetic Dental Sciences. A questionnaire was distributed and the data were statistically analyzed using SPSS version 18.0 and values less than 0.05 % were considered statistically significant. Results: The participant’s difficulty to accept loss of their anterior tooth, embarrassment and confidence were changed significantly after wearing the prosthesis (P< 0.05). Moreover, fixed partial denture had more effect than removal partial denture. It was claimed by 62.9% of the participants that they were not prepared for the effect of tooth loss and 47.1% of them thought that a prior explanation from the dentist would have helped them overcome their fear of losing their teeth. Conclusion: The maximum impact of anterior tooth loss was felt on confidence followed by embarrassment. The participants felt more comfortable after wearing their prosthesis. Fixed partial denture had more effect than removable partial denture. Keywords Emotional; Behavioral; Social; Anterior tooth loss. Keywords Emotional; Behavioral; Social; Anterior tooth loss.
