Rice husk ash (RHA) is a by-product of the rice milling industry. Near about 20 million tonnes of RHA is produced annually which creates environmental pollution. Utilization of RHA as a supplementary cementitious material adds sustainability to concrete by reducing CO2 emission of cement production. But, the percentage of utilization of RHA is very less. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation to study the effects of partial replacement of fine aggregate with RHA on mechanical properties of conventional and self-compacting concrete (SCC). The fine aggregate is replaced by RHA in conventional concrete (CC) with six different percentage by weight such as 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% having w/c ratio 0.375 with variation of super plasticiser dose, whereas in SCC the replacement of fine aggregate by RHA is 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The design mix for CC is targeted for M30 grade concrete. The fresh concrete test of SCC is conducted by using slump flow, T500, J-ring, L-box, U-box and V-funnel to know the filling ability, flow ability and passing ability of SCC. As fresh concrete property concerned, the result indicates that the slump flow value satisfied the EFNARC 2005 guidelines upto 30% replacement of fine aggregate with RHA whereas 40% replacement did not satisfy the guideline. As hardened concrete property concerned, the compressive strength, split-tensile strength and flexural strength of CC and SCC are determined at 7, 28 and 90 days. The test result indicates that upto 30% replacement of fine aggregate with RHA enhances the strength in CC whereas the strength enhancement in SCC upto 20% replacement.

SCC (Self compacting concrete) can fill formwork and encloses reinforcing bars under gravity and maintains homogeneity without vibration. SCC shortens the period of construction, guarantees compaction in confined zones, moreover terminates noise due to vibration. The wide spread application of SCC is restricted because of the high cost for the production of SCC with high cement content and chemical admixtures. In order to make the production of SCC economical, and to reduce the high cement content the Ordinary Portland Cement in SCC can be blended with pozzolanic materials like rice husk ash and supplementary cementitious materials like fly ash. In this paper the fresh state properties and mechanical properties such as compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength of SCC with ternary blends of rice husk ash (RHA) and fly ash (FA) were studied. For this purpose, different mixes were prepared by replacing Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) with 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of rice husk ash (RHA) and the percentage of addition of fly ash (FA) is fixed as 15% for all these mixes. It was observed that the specimen incorporating 10% of rice husk ash (RHA) and 15% of fly ash (FA) as ternary blend exhibits better mechanical properties such as: Compressive, split tensile and flexural strengths at 28 days of age as compared to traditional mix of SCC without RHA (Rice Husk Ash) and FA (Fly Ash). This research demonstrates that the ideal percentage for a mixture of rice husk ash (RHA) and fly ash as ternary blend is 10% and 15% respectively.

It is shown that some of the wastes have properties that would improve the quality of concrete produced. One such waste is agricultural waste rice husk, which constitutes about one-fifth of 600 million tones of rice produced annually in the world. The performance of RHA concrete was found to be varied among those of researchers and most of the studies encompassed for the utilisation of high grade concrete. This paper reported the investigation carried out on the mechanical properties of normal strength concrete of grade 30 N/mm2 with various partial replacement level of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) with Rice Husk Ash (RHA). Two(2) batches of same grade of concrete with and without use of superplasticiser (Sp) were adopted. The mechanical properties evaluated are in terms of compressive strength, flexural strength and tensile splitting strength of RHA concrete with and without superplasticiser (Sp). The results show that the optimum replacement level of RHA was 20 % and with the addition of Sp the replacement of RHA was taken as 40 %. However, the results of the study show that the performance in term of flexural strength and tensile splitting strength does not significantly improved with the replacement of cement with RHA.

Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is relatively a recent development in the construction world. SCC can flow through dense reinforcement under its own weight without any segregation, bleeding, and vibration. The use of steel fibers is being encouraged to increase mechanical characteristics of SSC. However, adding fibers to fresh concrete results in loss of workability. Steel fibers operate as crack arrestors in concrete and extend the span of structures. In the present study, the mechanical properties of SCC with cement is partially replaced by rice husk ash (RHA) & P500 (ultra-fine fly ash). A total of 5 mixes with 0.3 W/C ratio were cast for 7, 28 and 56 days water curing. The replacement of fibres is considered as 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2% by weight of cement. Workability, Compressive, Split Tensile and Flexural strength is studied in this investigation. Superior strength was observed at optimum dosage of steel fibers at 1.5% by weight of cement

Bagasse ash (BA), the residue obtained after the burning of sugarcane bagasse as a fuel, has pozzolanic properties with potential use as a supplementary binding material (SCM). Use of Bagasse ash (BA) as a mineral admixture needs to be established, especially in India, where sugarcane cultivation is widespread, to reduce land required for its disposal and cement consumption in construction industry. Hence, to encourage commercial use ofBA with minimum processing, an evaluation of the physical, chemical and  morphological characteristics of a locally available BA and its effect, as SCM on properties of structural concrete was taken up.This research work describes the feasibility of using the Fly Ash (FA) Rice Husk Ash (RHA) and Sugarcane Bagasse Ash(SCBA) waste in concrete production as a partial replacement of cement. This present work deals with the effect on strength and mechanical properties of concrete using Triple blending of cement concrete using FA, RHA and SCBA instead of cement. The cement has been replaced by rice husk ash, accordingly in the range with 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% by weight. Concrete mixture of M20 and M25 and M30, were produced, tested and compared in terms of compressive strengths with the Conventional concrete. These tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties for the test results of7, 14, 28, 56 and 90 days for Compressive strengths and Tensile & Flexural Strengths at 28 days. The durability aspect of the samples for Acid attack, Alkaline attack and Sulphate attack was also tested. The result indicates that the FA, RHA and SCBA improve the Compressive Strength and durability of concrete.
