Data is analyzed using Mediation model which focuses on the estimation of the indirect effect of X on Y through an intermedi - ary mediator variable M causally located between X and Y (i.e., a model of the form X ? M ? Y ) 1 , where X is the input variable, Y is output and M is the Mediating Variable. When researchers want to examine that how X variable exert it effects on Y variable which is commonly intervened by one or two variables denoted by M and this variable has a causal relationship between X & Y as per Figure 1 and termed as Simple Mediation Model. In this casual system there is at least one casual antecedent X variable is projected as influencing an outcome Y through a single inter - vening variable M . Such model establishes two pathways which influences Y by direct effect and indirect effect. In direct effect, pathways lead from X to Y without passing M. In indirect effects, a pathway of X to Y is lead through M. There are two conse - quent variables forming two equations and these equations can be estimated by conducting OLS regression analyses using SPSS or by using PROCESS.sps in SPSS by Andrew F. Hayes. To add PROCESS by Andrew F. Hayes in SPSS.

Abstract Background: The relationship between diabetes and myocardial infarction has always been the focus of research, but it is not clear whether the DM-MI association is direct or mediated by other factors. Our hypothesis is that part of the risk of MI in DM patients may be mediated by CRP and AST. We examined this hypothesis in the mediation analysis and tried to assess the extent to which CRP and AST could explain the MI risk caused by DM.Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 130 patients with MI and 130 patients with no-MI. We compared the relevant biochemical indicators of MI and no-MI patients, and applied mediation analysis to test the association of CRP and AST with DM-MI Potential adjustment effect. Results: The study found that individuals who suffered MI were more likely to have DM as compared with Non-MI (OR = 2.117, 95%CI = 1.130-4.195, P = 0.020), and CRP and AST are positively correlated with the occurrence of MI, For every unit increase in CRP and AST levels, the risk level of MI Significantly increased by 1%, 3.1% respectively. The direct effect of DM and MI is 0.847, the mediating effect of CRP is 7.69% of the total effect, and the mediating effect of AST is 52.79% of the total effect. The mediation effect of the CRP-AST path is 0.386, accounting for 12.36% of the total effect. In the mediation model we verified, CRP and AST play a part of the mediation effect between DM with MI, and the total mediation effect accounts for 72.84%.Conclusions: CRP and AST play an important role in the risk of DM-induced MI. This provides evidence for the mechanism and is of great significance for the exploration of therapeutic targets.

Abstract Background: High prevalence and strong relationships among suicidal ideation, Internet gaming disorder (IGD), insomnia, and depression have been reported for adolescents worldwide, but the mechanism underlying these psychological problems remains unclear. This cross-sectional study explored the mediating effect of insomnia and depression on the association between IGD and suicidal ideation. Methods: Participants were 1,066 adolescents (median age= 13.0 years) with Internet games exposure in the previous 12 months from junior high schools in Shanghai, China. Questionnaire measures of suicidal ideation, IGD, insomnia, depressive symptoms, and background characteristics were obtained. Path analysis was conducted to test the multiple mediating roles of insomnia and depression. Results: Suicidal ideation, IGD, insomnia, and depression prevalence was 27.2%, 13.6%, 9.2%, and 17.0%, respectively. A serial multiple mediation model was generated. The mediation effect of insomnia and depression on the pathway from IGD to suicidal ideation was 45.5% (direct effect: standardized estimate [Std. estimate] = 0.186; total indirect effect: Std. estimate = 0.155). The association between IGD and depression was partially mediated by insomnia (direct effect: Std. estimate = 0.211; indirect effect: Std. estimate = 0.135). The proposed model fit the data well. Conclusions: Insomnia and depression may serially mediate the association between IGD and suicidal ideation. IGD was positively associated with insomnia, then with depression, which in turn positively contributed to suicidal ideation. We suggest greater monitoring of Internet use and prevention of insomnia and depression to mitigate the risk of suicidal ideation among Chinese adolescents.

Emotional dysregulation, age, gender, and obesity are transdiagnostic risk factors for the development and maintenance of eating disorders (EDs). Previous studies found that patients with ED had less meaning in life than the non-clinical population, and that meaning in life acted as a buffer in the course of ED; however, to the data, there are no studies about the mediator role of meaning in life in association between the emotional dysregulation and the ED psychopathology. Objective: To analyze the mediating role of meaning in life in the relationship between emotional dysregulation and the ED psychopathology in three samples with diverse risk factors for ED.Method: Sample 1, n = 153 undergraduate young women; sample 2, n = 122 participants with obesity; and sample 3, n = 292 participants with ED. Multiple mediation analysis was performed. Results: Sample 1: meaning in life showed a mediation effect between emotional dysregulation and the ED psychopathology (direct effect β = 0.390, p < 0.05) (indirect effect β = 0.227, p < 0.05), body satisfaction (direct effect β = −0.017, p < 0.05) (indirect effect β = −0.013, p < 0.01), and depression symptoms (direct effect β = 1.112, p < 0.001) (indirect effect β = 0.414, p < 0.001); sample 2: meaning in life showed a mediation effect between emotional dysregulation and binge eating and purging behaviors (direct effect β = 0.194, p < 0.01) (indirect effect β = 0.054, p < 0.05) and depression symptoms (direct effect β = 0.357, p < 0.001) (indirect effect β = 0.063, p < 0.05); sample 3: meaning in life showed a mediation effect between emotional dysregulation and the ED psychopathology (direct effect β = 0.884, p < 0.001) (indirect effect β = 0.252, p < 0.007), body satisfaction (direct effect β = −0.033, p < 0.05) (indirect effect β = −0.021, p < 0.001), borderline symptoms (direct effect β = 0.040, p < 0.001) (indirect effect β = 0.025, p < 0.001), and hopelessness (direct effect β = 0.211, p < 0.001) (indirect effect β = 0.087, p < 0.001).Conclusions: These studies suggest the importance of considering meaning in life as a variable in the onset and maintenance of ED.

Abstract Background To dissect the direct effect of body mass index (BMI) and its indirect effect through C-reactive protein (CRP) on leukocyte telomere length (LTL) to determine the mediation effect of CRP on the BMI-LTL association. Methods The study cohort included 5,451 adults (1,404 Mexican Americans, 3,114 Whites and 933 Blacks; 53.5% males; mean age=49.2 years) from the 1999-2002 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. General mediation models were used to examine the mediation effect of CRP on the BMI-LTL association. Results After adjusting for age, race, sex, physical activity, alcohol use and serum cotinine, the total effect of BMI on LTL was significant (standardized regression coefficient, β= -0.054, p<0.001) without CRP included in the model. With inclusion of CRP in the model, the indirect effect of BMI on LTL through CRP was estimated at β= -0.023 (p<0.001), and the direct effect of BMI on LTL in its absolute value decreased to β= -0.031 (p=0.025). The mediation effect of CRP was estimated at 42.6%. The mediation model parameters did not differ significantly between race and sex groups. Conclusion These results suggest that the inverse BMI-LTL association is partly mediated by obesity-induced inflammation. The significant direct effect of BMI on LTL with removal of the mediation effect through CRP indicates that obesity is associated with LTL attrition also through other non-inflammatory mechanisms.
