During the last few decades there has been a sharp transition in economic doctrine, within the context of economic growth, on the relative contributions of agriculture and industrial development. There has been a shift away from the earlier 'industrial fundamentalism' to an emphasis on the significance of growth in agricultural productivity and production. The focus, especially in the context of the present-day less developed countries like Pakistan, has sharpened with the rapid growth in demand for food, resulting from the increasing growth in population and the high income-elasticities of the demand for food. Coupled with this is the transition from resource-based agriculture to science-based agriculture. Agricultural economists are unanimous in the view that by the end of this century all increases in world food production will come from higher yields, i.e. increased output per hectare. This increasing emphasis on 'land-saving' technology to increase productivity and production has resuited from the growing population pressures on land and declining land-man ratios. Agricultural research has come to the fore in providing technologies that increase productivity and production. However, these technologies do not explicitly take into account the equity aspects of the problem. The extent to which the poor gain or lose from the introduction of a new agricultural technology depends on a host of complex and interrelated socio-economic and political factors such as the existing distribution of productive resources, access to modem inputs, the structure of the market, etc.

There are six basic control items, land saving, energy saving, water saving, material saving, indoor environment and operation, among which, only material saving are related to structure design. We followed the green building design concept and the control items list in those standards during structure design of one of the residential area in Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city, which consist of 15~18-story residential building connected to a large underground garage, as is shown below.

This chapter argues that energy technologies should be understood in terms of asymmetric global resource transfers and environmental load displacements. The fossil fuel technologies inaugurated during the Industrial Revolution and the renewable energy technologies designed to replace them are similarly entangled with such societal asymmetries. Both represent social strategies of time-space appropriation within a highly unequal world-system generated by the polarizing logic of all-purpose money. The dependence of modern technology on asymmetric flows of embodied labour time, land, matter, and energy is effectively obscured in mainstream economics by the exclusive focus on prices and market mechanisms. Given the land-saving logic of the turn to fossil energy, it is pertinent to ask whether a turn to renewables would imply a return of land constraints. To perceive modern technologies simply as politically neutral instruments for harnessing natural forces, disregarding their demands on land and other resources beyond the technological infrastructure itself, is an example of fetishism.

Based on the comparative analysis, this paper discussed the similar and different parts of the sustainable sites indicators between ESGB and LEED. The results show the two evaluation system had different emphasis in land saving of green buildings. It should not completely copy the contents of LEED though ESGB could learn a lot from LEED.

Plenty of cultivated land has been used for highway construction. Thus Land-saving mode in road construction has drawn more and more attentions. However, inappropriate land-saving mode may result in some kinds of risks during highway's service life. Based on road risk, this paper discusses land-saving mode of Congo (Brazzaville) Highway One (Phase Ⅱ), trying to reach the balance between the two after accomplishing literature review and analyzing the prediction of traffic flow. The result shows that, the project should choose the mode such as proper construction scale and high bridge & tunnel ratio, rather than small turning radius and low roadbed.

Base on renewal transformation practice of urban buildings, firstly new green reconstruction ideas are put forward aiming at improving and enhancing work performance and safety performance of urban buildings, enhancing ability resist earthquake, typhoon, etc, guaranteeing the safety of people's lives and property, improving the efficiency of resource utilization, energy-saving, land-saving, water-saving, material-saving, protecting and improving the environment, prolonging service life of existing buildings. Secondly, system of technical standards for renewal and reconstruction of urban buildings is established, which includes aspects of exploration, inspection, identification, evaluation, design, construction, project acceptance, and operation management. Finally, a new green reconstruction mode of existing buildings is presented. It has been proved the effectiveness through applications and practices for many years.

As an important part of expressway, interchange has space multi-layer structure form and function of stereoscopic transportation steering, which transforms traffic flow, combs and controls traffic. At present the overpass occupies excessive land and large-scale project, which is serious waste of land resources. Under the premise of ensuring road capacity and traffic safety, in order to save land resource, based on Traffic Engineering, Psychology and other theory, the paper used the method of combination of computer simulation and field experiment, that’s through simulation of a driving simulator cabin got the tensity threshold of driver’s psychological and physiological reaction. Field tests were carried on about cars and drivers on the 68 expressway interchanges in Liaoning and Hubei province by using MC5600, dynamic driver heart physiological tester and other equipments. In addition, the paper surveyed the speed of the vehicle on the road and drivers’ psychological and physiological reaction, constructed mathematical model of driver tensity through analyzing feature point velocity and law of drivers’ psychological and physiological reaction, put forward suggested value of land-saving ramp circular curve radius ensuring traffic safety and service level from the point of speed consistency and driver tensity, which would make expressway interchange design meet the concept of economical highway. Therefore, the paper ensures the quality of highway geometric design as well as improves the effectiveness of highway construction and operation.

Through comparative research between actual projects in steel structure residence system of Hangxiao Steel Structure Co., Ltd.(shorted for “HXSS”) and comparative models in terms of land saving, material saving and energy saving, the performance of steel structure residence system in dealing with environment, environmental protection and saving is analyzed. The comparison results show that the steel structure residence system has certain advantages, however the performance in energy saving, particularly in consumption of building material transportation needs further improvement.
