Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are distance learning tools for individualized learning. They allow students to learn at their own pace in a virtual classroom. We describe success and pitfalls of the MOOC Landscape Ecology, designed as an undergraduate University course taught by an international consortium of Professors covering theory and application of the field. The paper describes course performance with summary metrics, illustrates contents and didactic tools, and provides a list of suggestions for instructors who engage in distant learning. We identify the following five key success factors for this and related MOOCs: (1) commitment and passion of an international consortium of lecturers; (2) a sound mixture of theory and practice; (3) numerous field-videos; (4) content and skill-oriented practicums (here using R, GIS, remote sensing); and (5) interactive formats where students discuss and share their opinions. In all runs of our MOOC we experienced some difficulties with peer-assessed writing tasks due to widely differing “review cultures”. The instructor-paced MOOC attracted over 3500 students in 2018 and 2019, and had comparably high completion rates (14% and 11%, respectively), compared to typical MOOC completion rates ranging from 5% to 15%. Completion rates in our self-paced run in 2020 were 8-9% only.

: The use of learning media is one of the critical success factors in higher education, therefore an educator must have innovation to use of learning media. The purpose of this research is to develop learning media based on the Inspiring Suit 8 on arbitration material courses of theoretical and practice for Volleyball 1 academic year 2018/2019 at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. The existence of media will be a big successful support in learning process, so that students do not feel boredom because of the weaknesses of the lecturers, in which they are unable to provided good learning variation or even have difficulty in conveying or transferring knowledge. The research was descriptive qualitative design. The research subjects were students of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Study Program who took volleyball theory and practice courses in the even semester academic year 2018/2019. The instruments used were the media expert review questionnaire, the learning expert questionnaire, and the trial analysis questionnaire. The questionnaire will be analyzed to see the feasibility of the developed media. Based on the data results review by media expert volleyball, media learning expert and field trials, it can be concluded that media developed is useful in learning process. In addition, it is used to provide independent motivation, which can be used in lesson for students.

The availability and use of e-learning resources in the acquisition and transfer of knowledge have been observed as a steering agent that facilitates the realization of major educational benefits in a developing economy. This study investigated the availability, accessibility, and use of e-learning tools by undergraduate students in the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, including the challenges limiting the full exploitation of e-learning resources for optimal usage and efficient e-service delivery. The methodology adopted for this research was purely survey design using the questionnaire approach as the main instrument for data collection. From the findings, limited availability, accessibility and usage of e-learning resources by the undergraduate students were revealed. The findings further showed that the major challenges hindering the effective use of e-learning resources amongst University of Ilorin students include lack of sophisticated e-learning resources such as teleconferencing, video conferencing, virtual classroom among others and high cost in the procurement of facilities that support e-learning. Based on these findings, recommendations are made towards addressing the challenges encountered by students in the utilization of e-learning resources in higher institutions of learning.

Abstract This paper reflects on a case study of a user-centred concept development process for a Machine Learning (ML) based design tool, conducted at an industry partner. The resulting concept uses ML to match graphical user interface elements in sketches on paper to their digital counterparts to create consistent wireframes. A user study (N=20) with a working prototype shows that this concept is preferred by designers, compared to the previous manual procedure. Reflecting on our process and findings we discuss lessons learned for developing ML tools that respect practitioners’ needs and practices.

Purpose – A research study has been undertaken at the University of South Australia to introduce application of lessons learned process in construction contractors ' bidding process in the context of knowledge management. The study aims to identify barriers to effectively capture lessons learned in Australian construction industry and how knowledge management can benefit from lessons learned application. Design/methodology/approach – The research study has been undertaken through conducting a “methodological triangulation” and “interdisciplinary triangulation”. This involved an extensive literature review of knowledge management, organisation learning, lessons learned and associated processes and administration of a questionnaire to a sample of construction contractors operating in Australia to elicit opinions on the main barriers to capturing lessons learned, practices such as existence and retention of documentation procedures. A total of 81 useable responses were received from 450 organisations. Response data were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistics with correlation analysis to examine the strength of relationship among the barriers. Findings – The top-3 barriers to the effective capturing of lessons learned were “lack of employee time”, “lack of resources” and “lack of clear guidelines”, whereas, “lack of management support” was the least ranked barrier. The study established that despite the majority of the ACCs having formal procedures for recording the tenders submitted and their outcomes, only a minority actually retained the lessons learned documentation for each project. The larger contractors were found to be more aware of the importance of lessons learned documentation. A comparative analysis with previous studies also found a disparity in the ranking of the barriers. Research limitations/implications – The majority of the participants were small construction contractors in Australia. The reason is that the researchers were not aware of the contractors ' size prior to inviting them for participation in the research study. Second the findings may not generalize to other industries or to organisations operating in other countries. Originality/value – The findings of this survey help ACCs to understand the importance of lessons learned documentation as part of lessons learned implementation and identify the barriers to effectively document their lessons learned. The study provides insights on the barriers and proposes advocated solutions in form of drivers and enablers (critical success factors) of organisational learning capturing among the Australian construction contractors. By reviewing the current literature, “post-project reviews” and “lessons learned” as important elements of organisation learning knowledge transfer, are addressed. Finally, contribution of this study to knowledge and practice has been discussed in this paper.

This study presentsa research of the multidimensional entrepreneurial orientation (innovation, risk and proactive) in relation to the Muslim SME success. Thus far, past literatures shown that limited study of Muslim SME success. This study was conducted in the form of survey, with data being gathered from 122 firms (operating above 3 years) selected through simple random sampling from 2286 Muslim SME in Malaysia. The results show that innovation and proactivefactors have relationshipsto SME Muslim success. The results shed new light on the theory and practice. This finding contributes to RBV theory and to the field of Islamic entrepreneurship focusing on Muslim SME success.

Remanufacturing has gained attention from industry, but the literature lacks the scientific comprehension to realize efficient remanufacturing. This hinders a company from commencing or improving remanufacturing efficiently. To fill this gap, the paper proposes a set of practical success factors for remanufacturing. To do so, it analyzes remanufacturing practices in industry through interviews with staff from remanufacturing companies with long experience. The practical success factors are found to be (1) addressing product and component value, (2) having a customer-oriented operation, (3) having an efficient core acquisition, (4) obtaining the correct information, and (5) having the right staff competence. Next, the paper further analyzes remanufacturing processes theoretically with both cause and effect analysis and means-ends analysis. Since the factors show that, among other things, the product/service system (PSS) is highly relevant to remanufacturing in multiple ways, theories on the PSS are partly utilized. As a result, the distinctive nature of remanufacturing underlying in the processes is found to have high variability, high uncertainty and, thus, also complexity. The obtained insights from practice and theory are found to support each other. In addition, a fishbone diagram for remanufacturing is proposed based on the analysis, including seven m's, adding two new m's (marketing and maintenance) on top of the traditional five m's (measurement, material, human, method, and machine) in order to improve customer value. The major contribution of the paper lies in its insights, which are grounded in both theory and practice.

This paper examines how a U.S. Air Force (USAF) faculty team reimagined and redesigned an in-person Leader Development Course (LDC) to a virtual version (vLDC). Using the Design Thinking Process for Innovation (DTPI) and action research methods, a new, virtual course was imagined, designed, tested, and improved over a six-cycle-process. Data was collected via multiple sources from 121 participants (19 faculty/staff and 102 students) and analyzed using manual coding and NVivo Software. Results are organized into 22 categories under four themes (general course design, student experience, instructor experience and faculty development, and technology experience) showing a progressive refinement with key lessons learned that led to the final creation of the new virtual course. Of the five key features in action research (actions matter, context-specific research, multiple cycles and phases, inclusion of people as research target, and reflections), participants reported that multiple cycles and reflections were most important in relation to the DTPI so that change could be enacted that reflected participant voices in the design process of the virtual course. The application of the DTPI using action research methods produced results and lessons learned in the design process that contribute to the theory and practice on developing and teaching in a virtual learning environment. The study fills a gap in the scholarly field and informs other institutions on the process, failures, and successes of course redesign to a virtual version.Keywords: design thinking process for innovation, action research, USAF, leader development

With the advent of technology there are plenty of blended learning tools available for us to use in teaching and training activity. Selecting appropriate tools for a particular category of students and the nature of the subject being taught is important to achieve better academic results. Hence, the objective of this research is to assess effectiveness of various blended learning tools and to find the appropriate tool for teaching a computer -based campus in Malaysia. This subject was delivered using four selected blended learning digital tools; ED puzzle virtual classroom videos, Home works on MMLS, MMLS online Quiz and MMLS discussion board, at the beginning of Trimester 2, 2018/2019. They were asked in the middle of the trimester to rate the usefulness of the four selected blended learning digital tools in a 5-point scale using an online survey. The analysis feedback shows that D puzzle virtual the trimester. The effectivenes when the achievements of the students in terms of their academic performance were compared with previous year. It clearly shows that the academic performance of the students of year 2019 is better than of students towards student centred learning.
