Remaja yang memiliki status gizi kegemukan dan obesitas memiliki resiko lebih tinggi untuk mengalami obesitas di usia dewasa. Asupan karbohidrat sederhana dan lemak jenuh yang tinggi serta aktivitas fisik yang rendah merupakan beberapa faktor yang sering disebut sebagai penyebab terjadinya kegemukan dan obesitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain cross sectional dengan tujuan untuk menguji korelasi asupan karbohidrat sederhana, lemak jenuh dan aktivitas fisik dengan status gizi pada remaja yang memiliki status gizi gemuk atau obesitas. Sebanyak 69 orang siswa/i di SMA 3 kota Malang yang berusia 15-17 tahun dan berstatus gizi gemuk atau obesitas menjadi subjek dalam penelitian ini. Asupan karbohidrat sederhana dan lemak jenuh diukur menggunakan form Semi Qualitative Food Frequency (SQ-FFQ) dan Aktivitas fisik melalui wawancara dengan menggunakan form Physical Activity Questionaire for Adolescent (PAQ-A). Uji statistik Gamma and Somers’d dengan SPSS 16 digunakan untuk menguji korelasi antar variabel. Ditemukan bahwa status gizi tidak berhubungan secara bermakna dengan karbohidrat sederhana (p =0,873), asupan lemak jenuh (p=0,343), dan aktivitas fisik (p=0,487). Identifikasi faktor lain pada remaja yang kemungkinan berpengaruh seperti tingkat pengetahuan gizi, durasi waktu tidur, waktu menstruasi pertamakali, tingkat ekonomi keluarga, diperlukan untuk menganalisis faktor resiko yang lebih berhubungan dengan kejadian kegemukan dan obesitas pada remaja.Kata Kunci:  Karbohidrat sederhana, lemak jenuh, aktivitas fisik, obesitasAdolescents with overweight and obesity are at higher risk for obesity in adulthood. Simple carbohydrate intake, high saturated fat intake, and low physical activity are some factors that are often referred to as the cause of overweight and obesity. This study is a cross-sectional research design with the aim to identify the correlation of simple carbohydrate intake, saturated fat and physical activity with nutritional status in overweight and obesity adolescents. Sixty-nine students in SMA 3 Malang city aged 15-17 years were involved in this study. Simple carbohydrate and saturated fat intake were measured using Semi-Qualitative Food Frequency (SQ-FFQ) form and Physical Activity through interview using Physical Activity Questionaire for Adolescent (PAQ-A) form. Gamma and Somers'd statistical test with SPSS 16 were used to test the correlation. Nutritional status did not correlate significantly with simple carbohydrates (p = 0.873), saturated fat intake (p = 0.343), and physical activity (p = 0.487). Identification of other factors in adolescents that may be influential such as the level of nutritional knowledge, sleep duration, first-time menstruation, family economic level, is needed to analyze risk factors more related to overweight and obesity in adolescents.Keywords: Simple carbohydrate, saturated fat, physical activity, obesity

ObjectiveTo examine associations of behavioural risk factors, namely cigarette smoking, physical activity, dietary intakes and alcohol consumption, with blood lipids profile.Design and participantsData drawn from a cross-sectional study involving participants aged 18 years and over (n=363) from the nationwide WHO STEPwise Nutrition and Non-communicable Disease Risk Factor survey in Lebanon.MeasuresDemographic characteristics, behaviours and medical history were obtained from participants by questionnaire. Dietary assessment was performed using a 61-item Culture-Specific Food Frequency Questionnaire that measured food intake over the past year. Lipid levels were measured by the analysis of fasting blood samples (serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)).ResultsCurrent cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption and low physical activity were prevalent among 33.3%, 39.7% and 41.6% of the sample, respectively. The contributions of fat and saturated fat to daily energy intake were high, estimated at 36.5% and 11.4%, respectively. Abnormal levels of TC, TG, VLDL, LDL-C and HDL-C were observed for 55.4%, 31.4%, 29.2%, 47.5% and 21.8% of participants, respectively. Adjusting for potential confounders, cigarette smoking was positively associated with higher odds of TG and VLDL (OR=4.27; 95% CI 1.69 to 10.77; and 3.26; 95% CI 1.33 to 8.03, respectively) with a significant dose–response relationship (p value for trend=0.010 and 0.030, respectively). Alcohol drinking and high saturated fat intake (≥10% energy intake) were associated with higher odds of LDL-C (OR=1.68; 95% CI 1.01 to 2.82 and OR= 1.73; 95% CI 1.02 to 2.93). Physical activity did not associate significantly with any blood lipid parameter.ConclusionThe demonstrated positive associations between smoking, alcohol drinking and high saturated fat intake with adverse lipoprotein levels lay further evidence for clinical practitioners, public health professionals and dietitians in the development of preventive strategies among subjects with a high risk of cardiovascular diseases in Lebanon and other neighbouring countries with similar epidemiological profile.

ABSTRACTBackgroundFor low-carbohydrate diets, a public health approach has focused on the replacement of carbohydrates with unsaturated fats. However, little research exists on the impacts of saturated fat intake on the lipid profile in the context of whole-food-based low-carbohydrate weight-loss diets.ObjectivesThe primary aim of this secondary analysis of the DIETFITS weight loss trial was to evaluate the associations between changes in percentage of dietary saturated fatty acid intake (%SFA) and changes in low-density lipoproteins, high-density lipoproteins, and triglyceride concentrations for those following a healthy low-carbohydrate (HLC) diet. The secondary aim was to examine these associations specifically for HLC dieters who had the highest 12-month increases in %SFA.MethodsIn the DIETFITS trial, 609 generally healthy adults, aged 18–50 years, with body mass indices of 28–40 kg/m2 were randomly assigned to a healthy low-fat (HLF) or HLC diet for 12 months. In this analysis, linear regression, both without and with adjustment for potential confounders, was used to measure the association between 12-month change in %SFA and blood lipids in 208 HLC participants with complete diet and blood lipid data.ResultsParticipants consumed an average of 12–18% of calories from SFA. An increase of %SFA, without significant changes in absolute saturated fat intake, over 12 months was associated with a statistically significant decrease in triglycerides in the context of a weight-loss study in which participants simultaneously decreased carbohydrate intake. The association between increase in %SFA and decrease in triglycerides was no longer significant when adjusting for 12-month change in carbohydrate intake, suggesting carbohydrate intake may be a mediator of this relationship.ConclusionsThose on a low-carbohydrate weight-loss diet who increase their percentage intake of dietary saturated fat may improve their overall lipid profile provided they focus on a high-quality diet and lower their intakes of both calories and refined carbohydrates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the distribution of energy intake and macronutrients consumption throughout the day, and how its effect on nutritional status can be modulated by the presence of the rs3749474 polymorphism of the CLOCK gene in the Cantoblanco Platform for Nutritional Genomics (“GENYAL Platform”). This cross-sectional study was carried out on 898 volunteers between 18 and 69 years old (65.5% women). Anthropometric measurements, social issues and health, dietary, biochemical, genetic, and physical activity data were collected. Subsequently, 21 statistical interaction models were designed to predict the body mass index (BMI) considering seven dietary variables analyzed by three genetic models (adjusted by age, sex, and physical activity). The average BMI was 26.9 ± 4.65 kg/m2, 62.14% presented an excess weight (BMI > 25 kg/m2). A significant interaction was observed between the presence of the rs3749474 polymorphism and the evening carbohydrate intake (% of the total daily energy intake [%TEI]) (adjusted p = 0.046), when predicting the BMI. Participants carrying TT/CT genotype showed a positive association between the evening carbohydrate intake (%TEI) and BMI (β = 0.3379, 95% CI = (0.1689,0.5080)) and (β = 0.1529, 95% CI = (−0.0164,0.3227)), respectively, whereas the wild type allele (CC) showed a negative association (β = −0.0321, 95% CI = (−0.1505,0.0862)). No significant interaction with the remaining model variables was identified. New dietary strategies may be implemented to schedule the circadian distribution of macronutrients according to the genotype. Clinical Trial number: NCT04067921.

<b><i>Introduction:</i></b> Parents’ eating behavior, lifestyle, and food choices can interfere with their children’s eating habits, bringing new perspectives for the development of beneficial interventions in the context of chronic rheumatic diseases. <b><i>Objectives:</i></b> The objective is to evaluate BMI, dietary intake, physical activity, and biomarkers of lipid metabolism in parents of children and adolescents with chronic rheumatic diseases and to verify the association with those of their children. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> This is a cross-sectional study with 91 parents, and their respective children diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (<i>n</i> = 30, 33.0%), juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (<i>n</i> = 41, 45.0%), and juvenile dermatomyositis (<i>n</i> = 20, 22.0%). Anthropometric and dietary data, physical activity, lipid profile, and apolipoproteins A-I and B were evaluated. <b><i>Results:</i></b> In total, 67% of parents and 27.5% of children were overweight; 80% of overweight children/adolescents also had parents with the same nutritional diagnosis. We found a moderate association of total fat intake (Cramer’s <i>V</i> test = 0.254; <i>p</i> = 0.037), and a weak association of saturated fat intake (Cramer’s <i>V</i> test = 0.219; <i>p</i> = 0.050) and cholesterol intake (Cramer’s <i>V</i> test = 0.234; <i>p</i> = 0.025) between parents and their children. A high prevalence of dyslipidemia was observed for parents (82.4%) and children (83.5%), however, with no association between both. A weak association was found between parents and children (Cramer’s <i>V</i> test = 0.238; <i>p</i> = 0.024) for triglycerides, and no association was found between parents and children concerning physical activity. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The high frequency of overweight and dyslipidemia observed in parents, combined with the association between the fat intake by parents and their children with chronic rheumatic diseases, points to the importance of intervention strategies with the engagement and participation of families.

The purpose of this study was to provide a descriptive assessment of the nutritional habits of competitive bodybuilders and compare the nutrient intakes of macronutrient-based dieting and strict dieting individuals. Data from 41 subjects (30 males and 11 females) were used in analyses. Participants completed a comprehensive food frequency questionnaire, and diets were analyzed using a computer system. Males consumed an average of 2,577.2 kcal (SD = 955.1), with an average fat intake of 83.6 g (SD = 41.3), an average carbohydrate intake of 323.3 g (SD = 105.2), and an average protein intake of 163.4 g (SD = 70.4). There were no significant differences between male macronutrient-based dieting and strict dieting bodybuilders when mean intakes were compared for all nutrients, including the macronutrients, selected vitamins and minerals, dietary fiber, added sugars, and saturated fat. Females in this study consumed an average of 1,794 kcal (SD = 453.1), with an average fat intake of 58.3 g (SD = 23.1), a mean carbohydrate intake of 217.8 g (SD = 85.9), and an average protein intake of 103.8 g (SD = 35.7). For females, macronutrient-based dieters consumed significantly greater amounts of several nutrients, including protein, vitamin E, vitamin K, and vitamin C. Over half of individuals from all groups consumed less than the recommended amounts of several of the micronutrients. Based on this information, it is recommended that competitive bodybuilders should be advised to take their micronutrition into greater consideration.

Background. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) constitute one of the main public health problems and represent a greater risk of mortality and morbidity for the world population. The objective of the study was to determine food addiction, saturated fat intake, and body mass index (BMI) in Peruvian adults. Materials and Methods. A cross-sectional online survey was applied to 394 Peruvian adults over 18 years old residing in the three regions of the country. Participant data was collected through a prestructured online electronic survey. Food addiction was assessed using the Yale Food Addiction Scale self-administered questionnaire. A validated food frequency questionnaire was used to measure saturated fat intake. Finally, the sociodemographic and anthropometric variables were collected through a registration form. Results. There were no significant differences in food addiction between men and women ( p < 0.05 ). More than half of the participants who presented food addiction are overweight (54.1%, p < 0.001 ). The highest proportion of those who had a high intake of saturated fat had a food addiction (62.6%, p < 0.001 ). The highest percentage of men who were overweight was higher compared to women (49.7% vs. 38.4%, p < 0.05 ). Conclusion. The findings of this study suggest that addictive eating behaviors and high saturated fat intake should be considered as part of efforts to prevent problems related to eating, obesity, and CVD.

Abstract In Indonesia non-communicable diseases become a very serious health problem at this time, namely hypertension. Hypertension risk factors include irreversible factors (age, gender, family history) and modifiable factors (smoking, nutritional status, physical activity, stress, and food consumption) which are considered to greatly affect the incidence of hypertension. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of hypertension. This research is quantitative with cross sectional approach. Done in the work area of ​​Jatiluhur Bekasi health center in July 2018. Data collection was carried out on 143 respondents who were patients who visited the work area of ​​the puskesmas using questionnaires and direct measurements. Quota sampling technique. The analysis used is univariate and bivariate. Univariate test results showed the proportion of hypertensive patients mostly were ertensi 40 years (71.3%), female gender (57.3%), low education (61.5%), working (55.2%), having a history family (61.5), nutritional status with overweight and obesity (62.2%), non-smoking (50.3%), and mild physical activity (79.7%). The results of the bivariate test showed that the variables associated with the incidence of hypertension were age (Pvalue = 0,000), education (Pvalue = 0,000), work (Pvalue = 0,001), family history (Pvalue = 0,033), and nutritional status (Pvalue = 0,003), while variables that are not related to the incidence of hypertension, namely sex (Pvalue = 0.454), smoking (Pvalue = 1,000) and physical activity (Pvalue = 0.197). To reduce the occurrence of hypertension, there needs to be education to prevent such as providing counseling to the public about hypertension and conducting blood pressure checks regularly. ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the prevalence of insulin resistance in adolescents and its associations with metabolic factors and food intake. Methods: Cross-sectional study conducted with a stratified, complex, school-based sample. The subjects were adolescents (n=1,081) who participated in the Study of Cardiovascular Risk in Adolescents in the city of Recife (Pernambuco, Brazil). We analyzed demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, anthropometric, biochemical, and dietary variables. Insulin resistance was defined as HOMA-IR>75th percentile. A Poisson multivariate regression model with robust variance adjustment was used, and variables with p≤0.05 in the final model were considered statistically associated with insulin resistance. Results: Median age was 14 years (interquartile range: 13-16 years), and 25.3% of the sample showed insulin resistance. The variables associated with insulin resistance in the final model were age, body mass index-for-age (BMI/A), biochemical markers (triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) and saturated fat intake, with insulin resistance being more prevalent in individuals whose consumption of this type of fat was below the median of the sample distribution. Conclusions: Insulin resistance was prevalent in the adolescents analyzed and was significantly associated with metabolic variables and saturated fat intake.

 Hockey is known to be a game that requires a lot of energy, where hockey players are required to have a level of good physical condition undergirded by meeting energy needs and opticians capable of performing during the game. The purpose of this study is to assess the nutritional status and intake of energy and nutrients and analyze the correlation with the speed and agility of the district's extracurricular hockey field. Cross-sectional research on all hockey players amounted to 70 people. Measurements made in this study include weight, height, BMI, energy and nutrient intake as well as speed and agility. The results showed that the nutritional status of BMI/U didn’t have a significant correlation with speed (p=0,842; r= -0,02) and nutritional status of BMI/U didn’t have a significant correlation with agility (p=0,271; r= -0,133). The average energy intake, protein intake and carbohydrate intake didn’t significantly correlate with speed (p=0,071; r=0,560, p=0,457; r=0,090, p=0,858; r= 0,022). Meanwhile, fat intake and calcium intake didn’t have a significant correlation with agility (p=0,874; r= -0,019, p=743; r= 0,040). The conclusion of this study is the nutritional status of BMI/U, energy intake, protein and carbohydrate intake aren’t related to speed and nutritional status of BMI/U, fat intake and calcium intake aren’t related to agility Abstrak Permainan hoki diketahui merupakan permainan yang membutuhkan banyak energi, dimana para pemain hoki dituntut untuk memiliki tingkat kondisi fisik yang baik yang ditunjang dengan pemenuhan kebutuhan energi dan zat gizi yang optimal agar mampu mencapai prestasi selama pertandingan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengkaji tentang gambaran status gizi serta asupan energi dan zat gizi serta menganalisis korelasinya dengan kecepatan dan kelincahan pemain ekstrakurikuler hoki SMAN Kabupaten Tangerang. Penelitian cross-sectional pada semua pemain hoki berjumlah 70 orang. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Pearson dan Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa status gizi IMT/U tidak berkorelasi secara signifikan terhadap kecepatan (p=0,842; r= -0,02) dan status gizi IMT/U tidak berkorelasi signifikan terhadap kelincahan (p=0,271; r= -0,133). Asupan energi, asupan protein dan asupan karbohidrat tidak berkorelasi secara signifikan terhadap kecepatan (p=0,071; r=0,560, p=0,457; r=0,090, p=0,858; r= 0,022). Sedangkan asupan lemak dan asupan kalsium tidak berkorelasi secara signifikan terhadap kelincahan (p=0,874; r= -0,019, p=743; r= 0,040). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah status gizi IMT/U, asupan energi, asupan protein dan asupan karbohidrat tidak berhubungan dengan kecepatan serta status gizi IMT/U, asupan lemak dan asupan kalsium tidak berhubungan dengan kelincahan.

AbstractObjectiveTo describe dietary habits and extent of overweight and obesity among Cree youth.DesignDietary intake and habits were assessed by a 24 h recall and FFQ as part of a cross-sectional survey.SettingThree Cree communities in northern Québec, Canada.SubjectsA total of 125 youth aged 9–18 years.ResultsOverall 67·6 % of the study population was either at risk of overweight or overweight. Over 98 % had a usual saturated fat intake over 10 % of energy while 65 % had a lower consumption of fruit/vegetables and 95 % had a lower consumption of milk and milk products than recommended by Canada’s Food Guide. The majority (96·8 %) consumed high-fat foods (>40 % of total energy as fat), which accounted for 39 % of total energy intake (EI). Similarly, 92·8 % consumed high-sugar food and beverages (>25 % of total energy as sugar), which accounted for 12·8 % of total EI. Furthermore, 95 % of the youth had a Healthy Eating Index (HEI) below the recommended score of 80 or above. Certain measures of diet quality (traditional food (TF) consumption, HEI and vegetables and fruit consumption) were significantly correlated with adiposity measures.ConclusionsA high prevalence of low-diet quality was found with a high degree of sugar and fat intake and a low consumption of vegetables/fruit and milk/milk alternates and any weekly TF. Dietary interventions are sorely needed.
