EMPOWERMENT OF DUCK FARMERS GROUP THROUGH UTILIZATION OF RICE SNAILS AS ALTERNATIVE FEED FOR DUCKS IN CIHATEUP HAMLET, TASIKMALAYA. In Cihateup Hamlet, the presence of golden snail is abundant with a large number of paddy fields scattered in several locations. Moreover, the presence of golden snail in this area has the potential to be an agricultural pest so that to minimize its existence it needs to be used as an alternative to duck feed. The community service program aims to improve the insight and skills of members of livestock groups in utilizing and processing rice snails into quality food products. This community service method takes the form of counseling, training and mentoring for members of livestock groups. The target of this program is members of the livestock group “Kelompok Ternak Megar Bebek Cihateup”. The implementation of the community service program began in March to September 2017 in the Cihateup Hamlet, Sukanagalih Village, Rajapolah District, Tasikmalaya Regency. The impact of this program is to reduce the loss of rice farmers from rice snail pests and reduce the cost of feed for duck farmers. In addition, there has been an increase in the community's insight and skills in utilizing the region’s potential to become a useful and high-quality product.

Buyers on eBay commonly rely on seller feedback ratings to determine bidding strategies.  Various studies have examined the impact of eBay’s reputation system on auction outcomes.  This study builds on prior research by examining the relationship between seller ratings on auction prices for two distinct product types, DVDs and designer watches and by benchmarking the bid prices against retail prices. The results show that eBay ratings explain a greater degree of price variation in Designer Watches than in DVDs.  The study also suggests that high quality product listings with such features as digital images, formatted pages, and product details may result in higher bid prices.

Inadequate and/or imbalanced fertilization has been identified as one of the critical bottlenecks holding oilseeds production and productivity. Sustainable production requires efficient use of inputs maintaining optimum yield and high quality product. The present study aims at defining the quantitative relationship between the fertilizer S applied and the sunflower yield obtained using a polynomial function. The analysis was done to allocate the S fertilizer for maximization of net profit over fertilizer cost depending on the availability of the fertilizer. The results indicated that the cost effective economically optimum dose of sulphur for sunflower cultivation was found to be 36.70 kg S/ha under its full availability. The expected sunflower yield at this dose was worked out to be 2.619 t/ha. However, it is advisable to uniformly distribute the fertilizer to all over the cultivable area under its limited availability for exploiting the desired yield potential and maximum net monetary returns.

Accelerating the availability of COVID-19 vaccines is critical to preventing further waves and mitigating the impact on society. However, preparations for large-scale manufacturing, such as building production facilities, are typically delayed until a vaccine is proven safe and effective. This makes sense from a commercial perspective, but incurs great costs in terms of lives lost and damage to the economy. Several policy options are available to reduce this delay, all of which involve incentives or subsidies to invest in production facilities. We review existing approaches, then propose a novel alternative using “option-based guarantees” in which the government commits to paying a proportion of the manufacturer’s preparation costs should the product turn out not to be viable. Counterintuitively, this “payment for failure” is appropriate because in the case of success, a company makes a profit from the product itself, and does not need additional money from the government. While other approaches have critical roles, we argue that option-based guarantees are the most promising approach to ensuring a rapid vaccine for COVID-19. Compared to the alternative approaches, they reduce both costs to the government and risk to the companies, while maintaining an incentive to produce a high-quality product quickly and at scale.

The aim of the study was to overview the results of scientific research on the impact of feed additives used in broiler nutrition on breeding and meat quality. Selected additives used in feeding broilers with immunomodulatory properties, prebiotics and probiotics, herbs and herbal extracts and protein additives were characterised. The application of insects in poultry feeding as a good source of proteins and fat as a substitute of expensive feed rich in proteins was presented. Further research is needed on their nutritional value, levels of incorporation into diets and the performance of this feed ingredient. However, there are many challenges that need to be overcome by adoptingsuitable strategies to produce antibiotic-free broiler meat with regards to food safety and chickenwelfare issues. The additives available on the market should be used in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations and the grace period should be observed in order to obtain the expected production results and a high-quality product.

SummaryTwo cases of livestock production involving French local breeds are analysed. The first shows how a high quality product under AOC (Protected Designation of Origin — PDO) has been defined for the Bresse chicken breed, formely kept by fancy breeders. The second shows the role of the local cattle breeds Abondance and Tarentaise in both the use of mountain areas and the development of PDO products. How to consider such values in a public policy dealing with farm animal genetic resources is discussed.

Formalin and borax are dangerous chemicals that are often misused as food preservatives. Various inspections have been carried out to minimize the use of formalin and borax in food, but there are still many formalin and borax in foods. The community, especially housewives, should have the ability to identify the presence of formalin and borax in food in order to protect family members from the exposure of those chemicals. Housewives in Pamijen Sub-District do not have knowledge and skills to identify formalin and borax content in food yet. Through this community service program, housewives in Pamijen Sub-District are expected to be able to test formalin and borax content in food independently. The program began with counseling about the food characteristics that contains formalin and borax; and the impact on health. This program continued with training on how to identify and practicing on how to detect formalin and borax in some food samples with a simple and an easy method. The results indicate that this program can increase patricipants’ knowledge about formalin and borax; and skills to identify them. Keywords: preservatives, formalin, borax, food

When solving constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs), it is a common practice to rely on heuristics to decide which variable should be instantiated at each stage of the search. But, this ordering influences the search cost. Even so, and to the best of our knowledge, no earlier work has dealt with how first variable orderings affect the overall cost. In this paper, we explore the cost of finding high-quality orderings of variables within constraint satisfaction problems. We also study differences among the orderings produced by some commonly used heuristics and the way bad first decisions affect the search cost. One of the most important findings of this work confirms the paramount importance of first decisions. Another one is the evidence that many of the existing variable ordering heuristics fail to appropriately select the first variable to instantiate. Another one is the evidence that many of the existing variable ordering heuristics fail to appropriately select the first variable to instantiate. We propose a simple method to improve early decisions of heuristics. By using it, performance of heuristics increases.

Petuk Katimpun is one of the supplier villages for vegetable needs in the Palangka Raya city and its surroundings. At the abundant harvest, the prices of vegetables dropped sharply and were even worthless. Vegetables are left to rot in the tree, because there are costs to be taken to pick the vegetables. This is certainly very painful for the farmer. The farmers continue to lose money. One solution is to increase the value added of vegetables through processing technology. The technology of processing vegetable chips with vacuum frying is able to maintain the distinctive aroma and color of vegetables, crisper texture, lower vitamin damage and lower oil absorption. The purpose of this community service program is to transfer vacuum frying technology to increase the value added of the vegetables so that the level of the loss of farmers can be reduced. The approach were taken by  counseling, training and coaching and mentoring. The counseling was carried out by direct communication and interactive discussion, while training of using vacuum frying tools with various vegetable raw materials was carried out under the guidance of the service team. The coaching and group assistance were carried out in the acquisition of SPP-IRT as well as ways to access markets both directly and indirectly. The results of the community service program showed that 70% of partners were able to operate vacuum frying equipment. The capabilities of labeling and packaging were 100 % . They also had an ability to access markets indirectly through online media. The direct market could not be accessed due to  the SPP-IRT certificate has not been obtained. Key words : community empowerment, vegetables chip, vacuum frying
