Since the beginning of the Requirements engineering, techniques from different contexts have been used in order to know about this stakeholders and define the requirements for the software system to be built. This article contains a systematic literature review of requirements engineering for software systems. The literature published within last 5 years was included into the review. A research question was defined as requirements development process of large scale software system (with thousands of requirements) and an interaction problem during this process (communication, coordination and control). The problem is caused by the fact that large-scale software system requirements process is a cross-disciplinary task and it involves multiple parties — stakeholders, domain experts, and suppliers with own goals and constrains, and thus, the interaction between them seriously slows down the overall requirements development process than writing the requirements specification itself. The research papers were classified by several research directions: Natural Language Processing for Requirements Engineering (NLP4RE), Requirement Prioritization, Requirements Traceability, Quality of Software Requirements, Non-functional Requirements and Requirements Elicitation. Motivation and intensity of each direction was described. Each direction was structured and represented with the key references. A contribution of each research direction into the research question was analyzed and summarized including potential further steps. It was identified that some researchers had met a part of the described problem in different forms during their researches. At the end, other researches were described additionally in a short overview. To approach the research question further potential direction was described.

This chapter uses a methodological approach to investigate research and design knowledge acquisition in the context of social software applications, an area cluttered by an ever-growing number of applications and high expectations about the capabilities of a new generation of young users, the Net Generation. Its objectives are twofold: to provide a rational point of departure for developing a research and design framework and to exemplify it for the use of social software in higher education. The chapter scrutinizes popular assumptions about the Net Generation, basing the framework on the interdependency of user audience and technology. The results of a longitudinal exploratory study for the area of social software use in higher education are presented. The final part of the chapter discusses implications for the design of learning environments and a number of ideas for further research on knowledge acquisition within the social software context.

The value and function of theoretical knowledge is an important and disputed issue, which has received surprisingly little scholarly attention. I attempt to clarify the notion of theoretical knowledge and examine its general relationship to learning. Theoretical knowledge is not necessarily distinguished by any particular content; the adjective “theoretical” can just as well signify a particular methodological approach or a way of dealing with a topic, including the way it is conceptualized. I further argue that theoretical knowledge can be merely implicit and non-propositional. Though I reject a radical constructivist view, according to which knowledge acquisition consists in socialization, it must be admitted that socialization and the acquisition of theoretical knowledge do turn out to go closely hand in hand, inasmuch as theoretical knowledge is often a precondition of successful socialization. Concepts, principles, models and symbolic systems support the acquisition of both theoretical and other kinds of knowledge, but also help the learner to find her way about in an environment that is already formed by theories and conceptual understandings. Theoretical knowledge is both a learning instrument and a tool for navigation

Regulations and policies contain a rich source of requirements and failure to address these authoritative requirements in software system development can impose costly penalties for regulatory noncompliance. Despite the advancement of information system research, regulatory requirements compliance remains one of the primary challenges still to be efficiently dealt in system development because of the scarce information, complexity, and understanding of available approaches in requirements engineering process of a system development. This paper reports a systematic literature review of the documented approaches of regulatory requirements compliance, classifies these approaches according to different criteria and provides a qualitative analysis of their operational characteristics. The results of this analysis can serve system developers as the means of deriving appropriate methods and tools for regulatory requirements compliance in the software system development.

The use of educational technology and digital learning environments in secondary education can offer multiple opportunities to go beyond the traditional approach frequently used in history education. This paper provides the result of a three-week intervention in two Spanish public schools with 86 fourth-year compulsory secondary education history students. The study examined the results of the implementation of a digital learning environment about the Spanish transition to democracy, and analyzed the effects of an intervention focused on the development of historical understanding and the use of digitized historical sources in student engagement and knowledge acquisition. Data obtained through the use of questionnaires were examined quantitatively and qualitatively using a mixed methods approach and different categories. Participants reported a positive perception of the methodological approach used during the sessions and high student engagement levels were detected after the intervention, which was supplemented by improvement in knowledge acquisition after the intervention. It is concluded that the intervention allowed students to become more engaged in a traditional discipline such as history by using a disciplinary approach, and that the use of the digital learning environment was useful in promoting historical understanding about the period under examination.

A high percentage of projects worldwide fail or are canceled due to incorrect requirements engineering. Incorporating good practices into this process provides the appropriate mechanism to understand and analyze what stakeholders want and need. It also allows to evaluate and negotiate a reasonable solution, specify, validate and manage the requirements as they are transformed into a functional system. The objective of this research is to elaborate a process of Requirements Engineering for the Quality Model for Software Development that contributes to raise the percentage of successful projects, in Cuban´s software development organizations, regarding the fulfillment of the agreed requirements. The solution proposal contains specific requirements and support elements (graphic and textual description of the process), divided by the three levels of maturity proposed by the Model. In order to reach the proposed goal, a bibliographic review was made on the requirements engineering discipline, as well as interviews and surveys to roles related to this activity in the software development organizations of Cuba. The solution was evaluated by experts in a focus group and put into practice, as a pilot, in three organizations, it was also measured the satisfaction of the users who used it using the Iadov technique.
