This paper presents an algorithm for the localisation of partial discharge (PD) sources in power transformers based on the electromagnetic waves radiated by a PD pulse. The proposed algorithm is more accurate than existing methods, since it considers the effects of the reflection, refractions and diffractions undergone by the ultra-high frequency (UHF) signal within the equipment tank. The proposed method uses computational simulations of the electromagnetic waves generated by PD, and obtains the time delay of the signal between each point in the 3D space and the UHF sensors. The calculated signals can be compared with the signals measured in the field, so that the position of the PD source can be located based on the best correlation between the simulated propagation delay and the measured data. The equations used in the proposed method are defined as a 3D optimisation problem, so that the binary particle swarm optimisation algorithm can be used. To test and demonstrate the proposed algorithm, computational simulations were performed. The solutions were sufficient to identify not only the occurrence of defects, but also the winding and the region (top, centre or base) in which the defect occurred. In all cases, an accuracy of greater than 15 cm was obtained for the location, in a 180 MVA three-phase transformer.

Due to the rapid advancement in power electronic devices in recent years, there is a fast growth of non-linear loads in distribution networks (DNs). These non-linear loads can cause harmonic pollution in the networks. The harmonic pollution is low, and the resonance problem is absent in distribution static synchronous compensators (D-STATCOM), which is the not case in traditional compensating devices such as capacitors. The power quality issue can be enhanced in DNs with the interfacing of D-STATCOM devices. A novel three-phase harmonic power flow algorithm (HPFA) for unbalanced radial distribution networks (URDN) with the existence of linear and non-linear loads and the integration of a D-STATCOM device is presented in this paper. The bus number matrix (BNM) and branch number matrix (BRNM) are developed in this paper by exploiting the radial topology in DNs. These matrices make the development of HPFA simple. Without D-STATCOM integration, the accuracy of the fundamental power flow solution and harmonic power flow solution are tested on IEEE−13 bus URDN, and the results are found to be precise with the existing work. Test studies are conducted on the IEEE−13 bus and the IEEE−34 bus URDN with interfacing D-STATCOM devices, and the results show that the fundamental r.m.s voltage profile is improved and the fundamental harmonic power loss and total harmonic distortion (THD) are reduced.

Autotransformator is a transformer that has primary and secondary winding with the same common winding, so that it has a lighter weight compared to ordinary power transformers. The purpose of this study is to optimize the main material used in the three-phase Auto transformer in order to get the most optimum value approaching the calculation results and to know the comparison between the calculation results and the actual use of the main material in the Auto transformer and three-phase power transformer. The main material in power transformers is copper for winding and silicon steel for cores (transformer cores). Based on this research, it can be concluded that the use of main material in Auto three-phase power transformer is less than the three-phase power transformer for the same voltage and power, the magnitude of the difference in the range of 12.5% ​​for Copper and core (transformer core) range of 47.3% of the main material in the power transformer can.

Three-phase Fixed Capacitor Thyristor Controlled Reactor is widely used for reactive power compensation in power systems because of reduced cost and high reliability.  The problem with FC-TCR is that to generate current harmonics when it is partially conducting. When this harmonic current is interacted with system impedance, voltage waveform will distorted. This harmonic pollution is undesirable in power systems. Therefore, it is important to know the harmonic behaviour of three-phase FC-TCR before they can be used in a power system network. This paper presents the harmonic analysis of three-phase FC-TCR operating under balanced and unbalanced conditions. This analysis is useful to design the harmonic filter to reduce the harmonic pollution in power systems.The proposed work is implemented in MATLAB environment.
