Two new species of Gesneriaceae, Paraboea myrianthasp. nov. and P. brevipedunculatasp. nov. are described and illustrated with photos. They grow in the Caryota obtusa forests from Yunnan Province of China. P. myriantha is closely related to P. glutinosa (Hand.-Mazz.) K.Y.Pan, but differs mainly in corolla outside glandular-puberulent, adaxial corolla lobes semicordate, corolla tube obliquely campanulate, and filaments glandular-puberulent. P. brevipedunculata is closely related to P. crassifolia (Hemsley) B. L. Burtt, but different mainly in simple dichasia with 1 and 2 flowers, peduncles 0.5–2 cm long and capsules slightly twisted. The geographical relationship between the two new species and their similar species has been discussed.

Two new fungal species, Phaeosaccardinula dalbergiae and Phaeosaccardinula yunnanensis collected from Yunnan Province, China are described based on morphology and molecular data. They are compared with related taxa of Phaeosaccardinula. Detailed description, illustrations and notes are provided for each species. Molecular analysis based on the phylogenetic tree of combined internal transcribed spacer and large subunit nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences show that the two species form distinct clusters within the genus Phaeosaccardinula.

Two new species of steganacarid mites (Oribatida: Phthiracaroidea) from Yunnan Province, Southwest China, Plonaphacarus chuxiongensis sp. nov. and Hoplophthiracarus jianchuanensis sp. nov., are described and illustrated. Keys to all known species of Plonaphacarus and Hoplophthiracarus from China are proposed to facilitate further studies of these groups.

Two new species of freshwater crab of the genus Potamid Aparapotamon Dai & Chen, 1985 are described from Yunnan Province, southwest China. Morphological comparisons were made between the two new species and type materials of other 11 species of Aparapotamon. Aparapotamon binchuanensesp. nov. and A. huizeensesp. nov. can be separated from their congeners by the shape of the epibranchial tooth, the frontal view of the cephalothorax, the male first gonopod, and the female vulvae. The molecular analyses based on partial mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene are also included. This study brings the number of Aparapotamon species to 13.

Two new species of Achipteriidae, Dentachipteria sidorchukae sp. nov. from moss and Cubachipteria clavata sp. nov. from soil in Yunnan Province, Southwest China are described and illustrated. Dentachipteria sidorchukae sp. nov. is most similar to Dentachipteria ringwoodensis but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characterstics: 3 or 4 pteromorphic denticles, seta in thickened, not reaching distal parts of lamellae. Cubachipteria clavata sp. nov. is most similar to Cubachipteria maxsellnicki, but can be distinguished from the latter by the following characterstics: seta in setiform, slightly barbed, not reaching distal parts of lamellae, seta le smooth, inserted ventrally on the lamellae.

Acronema crassifolium, a distinct new species endemic to Yunnan province, China, is described and illustrated. It is characterized by its thickly papery, ternate, abaxially dark purple leaves, terminal umbels with 8–13 rays, and absent calyx teeth. The pollen morphology of the new species is also described in this study.

The powder post beetles (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) (except Lyctinae) of Yunnan Province in Southwest China are reviewed for the first time. Keys to twenty-six genera and fifty-two species from the Yunnan region are provided. One new genus and seven new species are described: Dinoderus (Dinoderastes) hongheensis sp. nov., Dinoderus (Dinoderastes) nanxiheensis sp. nov., Gracilenta yingjiangensis gen. nov., sp. nov., Calonistes vittatus sp. nov., Calophagus colombiana sp. nov., Xylodrypta guochuanii sp. nov. and Xylodrypta zhenghei sp. nov.. Fourteen species are recorded in China for the first time. The bostrichid fauna of Yunnan is compared with those of the neighbouring bio-geographically related Southeast Asian and Himalayan regions. The fauna has a close affinity with that of tropical Southeast Asia and a much weaker relationship with the Palearctic region. The differences with the Himalayas may reflect the separate evolutionary and complex geological history of the two areas.
