Background and Aims Although the outbreak of coronavirus has caused problems in all aspects of human life. Still, this disease has caused severe damage to the health of the elderly community and the level of physical activity and free movement of the elderly. This study aimed to investigate the effect of one year of coronavirus limitation on the motor function of the elderly living in care centers. Methods The present study was a cohort study that was conducted in the field. The statistical population of this study was male and female elderly over 60 years of age from two nursing homes in Rash City. Berg functional balance tests evaluated the motor function of the elderly, Timed Up and Go (TUG) Test or fall probability test and walking speed test or 10-meter walk test. Shapiro-Wilk test was used to check the normality of the data, descriptive statistics were used to determine the mean and standard deviation, and paired t-test and McNemar was used to analyze the data and examine the intra-group differences between the data in SPSS software version 26. Results The results of the correlated t-test showed that the time up and go test in the elderly under the influence of one year of movement limitation in the post-coronary period had a significant increase (p=0.001), also in functional balance index (p=0.03) significant changes according to For a year, the elderly had limited mobility. There was a significant decrease in the walking variable (p=0.001) following this period. It also showed a significant increase in the probability of falling index (p=0.021). Conclusion According to the findings of the present study, elderly cares centers and families with the elderly should pay close attention to the need for a level of physical activity and exercise in this critical period of coronation for these people and in addition to planning to increase the level of physical activity These people, they are encouraged to participate in physical activity.

The current stage of civilization is distinguished by an increase of the number of elderly people, which results in the conduction of researches on the subject. Investigations about physical activity also rise, especially focusing on an epidemiological perspective. In this scenario, new studies bring alternatives to this hegemonic view, such as humanized physical activity. The present study has aimed to analyze the meanings of the practice for physically active elderly living in Fortaleza-Ce. Considering the scientific research method, a qualitative matrix has been the choice. Eighteen elderly men and women participated in the research, 12 females and six males, with a mean age of 69.8±6,92 years. The investigation was carried out in an association and in a private university, which have physical activity projects with the investigated public. For the data collection, in-depth interviews have been conducted, analyzed by the IRaMuTeQ software. As of the results, socialization, biological benefits, the daily move, the reduction of illnesses and a healthy life were the meanings the elderly have reported relating to the habit of physical activity. Therefore, it’s possible to infer that the speeches of those elderly have been run through by aspects of the epidemiologic perspective, keeping limited connections with the subjective point of view.

Introduction. Physical activity is known to be an important factor influencing health throughout human life. This issue has become crucial for public health due to the aging of the population in both developed and developing countries. Aim. is to present a literature review on the forms of physical activity undertaken by the elderly, as well as on issues related to physical activity and the population aging. Material and methods. The study was prepared on the basis of a review of Polish and foreign literature. The following databases and data sources were used: EBSCO, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. An additional source of data were the websites of the Central Statistical Office. Strictly defined key phrases were used during the collection of literature. The work has been divided into thematic subsections on the aging of the society, the impact of physical activity on health and the main topic, i.e. forms of physical activity selected by the elderly. Analysis of the literature. The number of elderly people in Polish society has increased by almost 3.7 million over three decades. Therefore, an important topic is prophylaxis aimed at increasing the number of days in good health, largely covering the broadly understood activation of the elderly. The available data indicate that only 12% of elderly people undertake physical activity once a week. The most common form of spending free time actively is walking (as many as 73% of people in this population declare this form of physical activity in one of the presented studies). Conclusion. Organized forms of physical activity are undertaken much less frequently by the analyzed age group mainly due to financial limitations and limited availability of sports infrastructure.

Background and objective: Managing the decrease in physical function in the elderly is a major task in aging societies globally. Here, we aimed to compare the physical function and metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk factors according to levels of physical activity (PA). Material and methods: We measured PA in 77 elderly Korean men (74.21 ± 6.26 years old) with an accelerometer and recorded body composition, physical function, and MetS-related risk factors. Participants were divided into three groups based on daily moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA): low (under 60 min), middle (60-120 min), and high (over 120 min). The groups were compared using a one-way analysis of variance and the Scheffe post hoc test. Odds ratios (OR) were calculated by logistic regression analysis. Results: Significant differences were found between the groups for sedentary behavior time (P < 0.001), light PA (P < 0.05), moderate PA (P < 0.001), vigorous PA (P < 0.05), and total energy expenditure (P < 0.001). The high PA group showed a significantly lower percentage of body fat and fat mass and higher muscle mass than did the low and middle PA groups (P < 0.05). The 6-min walk test was significantly better in the high PA group than in the low and middle PA groups (P < 0.05). Grip strength and the Berg balance scale were also significantly better in the high PA group (P < 0.05). Bone mineral density (BMD) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly higher in the high PA group than in the low PA group (P < 0.05). Systolic blood pressure (SBP) was significantly higher in the middle PA group than in the low PA group (P < 0.05). Participants with more than three MetS criteria showed an OR of 0.09 (95% confidence interval 0.01-0.82) in the high PA group as compared with the low PA group (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Moderate-vigorous physical activity of more than 120 min daily showed better physical function and lower OR of MetS than did lower MVPA levels in elderly Korean men.

Increasing the number of elderly people every year should be a concern, due to an increase in the number of elderly problems faced will become increasingly complex, one of which is a problem related to the symptoms of aging. Decreased intellectual capacity is closely related to cognitive function in the elderly. Physical activity is identified as one of the factors that influence cognitive function. Physical activity is beneficial for the elderly as prevention and dementia. This study was an observational analytic study using a cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at the social foundation nursing home in the white cross in June 2018. The population in this study was elderly aged ≥60 years. The subjects in this study were 16 respondents. The independent variable in this study is physical activity that is assessed using the GPAQ instrument. While the dependent variable in this study was cognitive function which was assessed by the MMSE instrument. There are 4 people (25%) who fall into the category of normal cognitive function with moderate physical activity categories 1 person and heavy activities 3 people, then those included in the category of mild cognitive function disorders are 11 people (68.75%), with the category of physical activity being 8 people and 3 light activities. While those included in the category of severe cognitive function disorders, there is 1 person (6.25%) with a mild activity category. The significance level between the level of physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly is p = 0.007 or p <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly.

Background: Vietnam is entering the stage of aging population; as a result, the quality of life (QOL) of the elderly is really a matter of concern. There is a great deal of research on the quality of life of the elderly while Vietnam witnesses a lack of research on this topic, especially on how physical and social activities have impact on QOL of the elderly. Objectives: (1) To describe the situation of participation in physical, social activities and QOL of the elderly residing in Truong An Ward, Hue city. (2) To examine the association between physical, social activities and QOL among participants. Methodology: This study used cross-sectional study design. A total sample of 420 people aged 60 and above in Truong An Ward, Hue city were interviewd. The SF36 was used to measure the QOL of participants. Results: Percentage of the elderly taking part in physical activity were 66%. 49% reported having the habit of taking part in social activities. The majority of the elderly get their QOL level in three health fields, namely physical, mental and general health at above average. (56.0, 60.7 and 60.8 respectively). There were significant associations between physical activities, social activities and QOL among participants. Conclusion: The percentage of the elderly taking part in physical and social activities were still low. Besides, QOL of the elderly at the research location was not really high. It’s important to encourage the elderly taking part in physical and social activities to improve their quality of life. Key words: Physical activities, social activities, QOL, the elderly
