The dependence of the photosynthetic rate of Euglena mutabilis Schmitz on pH across a range of 2.0–10.0 was investigated. Populations of E. mutabilis isolated from sediments of acidic mine drainage in Sensui (pH = 3.95) and a volcanic cold spring in Bougatsuru (pH = 5.32) were cultured in a pH-adjusted growth media for 96 h, and photosynthetic rate and dark respiration rate were measured. The maximum gross photosynthetic rate of E. mutabilis cells from the Sensui drainage population did not vary significantly over the pH range of 2.0–7.0, and their dark respiration rate showed high values at pH = 7.0. The maximum gross photosynthetic rate of E. mutabilis cells from the Bougatsuru spring population did not vary significantly within the pH range of 2.0–6.0, and their dark respiration rate tended to show high values at pH = 7.0. E. mutabilis can colonize under circumneutral conditions up to and including pH = 6.0.

Tidal fats resources is an important resource in coastal areas of China, which shows a trend of dynamic growth. Ratonal development and efectve utlizaton of tdal fats resources can alleviate the contradicton between more people and less land in China, and is of great signifcance to the development of coastal economy and the protecton of ecological environment in China. Taking Yancheng Tidal Flats of Coastal Areas as an example, analyzes the present situaton of development and utlizaton and the existng problems at the present stage. Relying on the existng industrial foundaton, this paper puts forward the development and utlizaton model of strengthening the constructon of port-neighboring industry, towns and ecological leisure tourism on the basis of modern agriculture

In 2006, Hyogo prefecture opened the “Araihamakaze” park on reclaimed land leased with cooperation from some companies, and set up a seawater pond called “Konourafuna Ike” in the park. The initial plan was to make this seawater pond into a Satoumi, but since the water in the pond was stagnant, algae flourished making it uninhabitable for other living creatures. The authors conducted investigative research to implement activities for improving the environment and popularizing the park. This report is a summary of the results obtained and challenges faced while conducting these activities in the area over one year, which included involving the local schoolchildren in constructing tidal flats. The answers to the questionnaire revealed that schoolchildren understood that the nutrients in the seawater pond “go round and round” through the food chain and are utilized by living creatures. They realized that this process is called “circulation.”To the question, “Do you want to develop tidal flats?” 9 of the 10 children answered YES. However, only 50% of the children understood that a measure to prevent the degradation of the environment of the seawater pond is to “Construct tidal flats,” which suggested that there is a need to correlate the issues and the solutions to enhance their understanding.
