El desarrollo  de competencias para la investigación en estudiantes de Educación Superior es una tarea ardua. Sin embargo, la formación de recursos humanos en investigación debe ser una de las tareas permanentes de las Universidades, esto debido a que posibilita a los países en desarrollo el poder acceder a mejores niveles de bienestar social en materia de crecimiento económico, producción de ciencia, tecnología y mejora de la calidad educativa. El presente reporte muestra los resultados del esfuerzo de los últimos 12 años del Centro Universitario de los Lagos de la Universidad de Guadalajara, quien tiene como eje fundamental la investigación y como parte inherente el desarrollo de competencias en investigación en estudiantes universitarios. Esperando que dichos recursos humanos que han sido formados en la investigación en un mediano y/o largo plazo vengan a incrementar, enriquecer y realizar el relevo generacional de los investigadores en la región centro occidente de México. DEVELOPMENT OF COMPETENCIES FOR RESEARCH IN HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS: AN EXPERIENCE IN MEXICO ABSTRACT The formation of human resources in research is an arduous task for Public Universities, especially in developing countries, must become a fundamental axis in reaching higher levels of social welfare in the matter of economic growth, production of science and technology and improvement of quality of education. At the moment a great disparity exists where developed countries, are “the unique” producers of knowledge and the developing countries are only consumers. In this work, we present the results of the effort of the last 12 years in the University of Guadalajara at Lagos de Moreno, which its fundamental axis is the scientific research. Like inherent part of the formation of university students, they will increase, enrich and to became in to the generational relief of the researchers in Jalisco state and perhaps of the Mexican Republic. This research is based on an extended study of Japanese self-initiated expatriate entrepreneurs (SIEEs) in Asia. Since 2015 the authors have explored various factors that influence SIEEs when setting up enterprises overseas, including the ability to take initiative; support and encouragement from family, a well-defined career anchor and exposure to overseas in the exploration stage of one’s career. An emerging trend is the desire to engage in social development activities, which has seen increasing numbers of Japanese leave well-paid companies at home to work in NGOs in developing countries. An extension of this can be seen in Japanese who choose to become self-initiated expatriate social entrepreneurs. This article focuses specifically on cases collected in Cambodia and attempts to explain how and why Japanese decide to become self-initiated expatriate social entrepreneurs in Cambodia using the concept of mindsets; entrepreneurial, social, sustainable and global. Initial research shows that some of these individuals exemplify the definition of sustainable entrepreneurship as they are creative and question the status quo in order to seek new opportunities for societal improvement ( Bornstein, 2007 ) and have multiple mindsets behind their actions. This research paper shares the context, characteristics, and outcomes of Japanese self-initiated expatriate social entrepreneurs in Cambodia and concludes by suggesting how knowledge of these SIEEs can be used in higher education contexts in Japan to improve entrepreneurship education.

Higher education in many developing countries faces the triple challenges of inadequate funding, need to improve quality of learning outcomes, and the pressure to increase quality of graduates. Crowdsourcing offers opportunity for institutions to face these problems with little resource expenditure. The chapter describes/analyzes how crowdsourcing can be applied in curriculum and teaching material development activities through collaborative efforts of higher education institutions from different parts of the world to develop suitable curriculum for teaching English for specific purpose. The chapter analyzes the process and the evaluates the outcome of the crowdsourcing tool and suggests that its application can keep higher education institutions in developing countries in forefront of education and research innovation, and prepares members in these institutions for innovative problem solving and for the challenges of the online world.

Due to globalization of economic activities and increased scope of higher education, higher education has become a priority agenda for countries around the globe. In order increase opportunities of higher education, institutions of higher education must enhance their quality and access through open and distance learning while following national and international standards. For developing countries, higher education opportunities through open and distance learning are important for economic prosperity and participation in global knowledge economy. Globalization has created numerous challenges and opportunities for higher education. These challenges are more significant for developing countries because of limited resources. Universities play a key role in modern societies inserted into a globalized economic world. This chapter studies how informational competencies, entrepreneurship, and integral values in higher education are necessary to foster economic growth and fight corruption. The authors especially are focused on distance education as it can be a tool to fight poverty by diminishing high illiteracy rates, mainly existing in developing countries. The purpose of the chapter is two-fold: 1) to study the impact of informational competencies in both education and entrepreneurship, and 2) to emphasize the importance of acquiring integral values by learners to be applied into educational processes based on emotional intelligence. As a result, students will be defined as prospective entrepreneurs endowed with the ability to recognize, internalize and understand emotions to be adjusted into relations and business behavior to impulse their goals. And in this sense, online education has an important role to play, especially in postgraduate studies, as in the case of MOOCs that are also analyzed.

Higher Education in developing countries like Oman offers several unique circumstances that suggest curriculum delivery using Blended Learning is a rational choice. Research has been conducted to identify the factors affecting blended learning adoption and to determine whether the teaching and learning process is amenable to its adoption at HEIs in Oman. Based on the findings a model, Blended Learning Acceptance Model (BLAM), has been developed. It was inferred from the findings that there is a positive relationship among the demographic factors and behavioral Intention i.e. blended-learning adoption. In addition, the teaching and learning styles also had significant influence on adoption of blended learning. BLAM was primarily intended to be used at HEIs in Oman, but may also be used in other developing countries as a reference for the adoption of blended learning.
