Effect of Biomethanated Spent Wash on Enzymatic Activities under Irrigated Condition

The biomethanated distillery spentwash is a nutrient rich liquid organic waste obtained from molasses based distillery industries after biomethanation process. The effect of different levels and methods of spentwash application on soil enzymatic activity was examined through a field experiment using sesame c.var.VRI (Sv) 2 as the test crop at Research and Development Farm, The Sakthi Sugars Pvt. Ltd., Appakkudal, Erode District. The experiment was formulated with six treatments with four replications and laid out in a randomized block design. As per the treatment schedule, the calculated quantity of biomethanated distillery spentwash (DSW) was uniformly applied to the plots @ 25, 50, 75 and 100 % along with recommended dose of NP (19.4, 25.2, 58.3 and 77.77 L, respectively) before sowing as pre-sown application. In addition, one absolute control and a treatment with recommended dose of NPK (35:23:23 kg NPK/ha) have been imposed for comparison. The soil samples were collected at 30 d intervals and analyzed for the changes in soil enzyme activities. The results of the study showed that the enzymatic activities of the soil were substantially increased throughout the crop growth period due to biomethanated DSW application, compared to check. However, application of 100 % N through DSW (77.77 L/1200 m2) and 75 % N through DSW + 25 % N through inorganic source (58.3 L/1200 m2) was found to be significantly superior by increasing the activities of phosphatase (15.07 μg p-nitrophenol g-1 soil h-1), dehydrogenase (29.92 μg TPF g -1 soil h-1 ) and urease (10.97 μg NH4-N g-1 soil h-1), respectively.

As per the treatment schedule the calculated quantity of biomethanated distillery spentwash for pre-sown application was uniformly applied to the plots before sowing viz., 25, 50, 75,100% along with recommended dose of NP for four treatments viz., 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and Recommended dose NPK was treated as one treatment (control).The soil samples were collected at 30 days intervals and analysed for the changes in soil microbial population and enzyme activities. The results of the study showed that the microbial population and enzymatic activities of the soil were substantially increased throughout the crop growth period due to biomethanated distillery spentwash application.

Biochar and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can promote plant growth, improve soil properties, and maintain microbial activity. The effects of biochar and AMF on plant growth, root morphological traits, physiological properties, and soil enzymatic activities were studied in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.). A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of biochar and AMF on the growth of spinach. Four treatments, a T1 control (soil without biochar), T2 biochar alone, T3 AMF alone, and T4 biochar and AMF together, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with five replications. The biochar alone had a positive effect on the growth of spinach, root morphological traits, physiological properties, and soil enzymatic activities. It significantly increased the plant growth parameters, such as the shoot length, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, shoot fresh weight, and shoot dry weight. The root morphological traits, plant physiological attributes, and soil enzymatic activities were significantly enhanced with the biochar alone compared with the control. However, the combination of biochar and AMF had a greater impact on the increase in plant growth, root morphological traits, physiological properties, and soil enzymatic activities compared with the other treatments. The results suggested that the combined biochar and AMF led to the highest levels of spinach plant growth, microbial biomass, and soil enzymatic activity.

A field experiment was carried out at Research Farm of the Department of Vegetable Science, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar (Haryana) during rabi season of 2013-14 and 2014-15 to investigate the effect of fertilizers and plant spacing on growth and seed yield of onion. The treatments comprising of three fertilizers levels (F1: 75% recommended dose of phosphorous and potash, F2: 100% recommended dose of phosphorous and potash and F3: 125% recommended dose of phosphorous and potash) and four plant spacing (S1: 45x30 cm, S2: 45x45 cm, S3:60x30 cm and S4: 60x45 cm) were laid out in randomized block design (factorial). The results of the experiment showed that different fertilizers levels and plant spacing influenced the growth and seed yield of onion significantly. The crop planted at 60x45 cm spacing and supplied with 125% recommended dose of phosphorous and potash resulted in maximum number of umbels per plant and number of seeds per umbel, while the crop planted at 45x30 cm spacing and supplied with 125% recommended dose of phosphorous and potash resulted in highest length of leaves, length of flower stalk and seed yield per hectare during both the years.

The present study proposes to evaluate extracts from shoots of healthy soybean and potato plants for the treatment of plants of the same species cultivated subsequently. Two experiments were thus conducted separately after the soybean and potato inoculum production phases. For soybean, the experiment was laid out in a randomized-block design with five treatments and four replications, in which the following treatments were tested: 1. absolute control without inoculum or pesticides; 2. farmer management with pesticides, without inoculum; 3. use of inoculum, without insecticides; 4. use of inoculum, without fungicides; and 5. use of inoculum, without pesticides. In the soybean crop, the tested inoculum improved plant development and, increased the potassium content of the plant tissue as well as yield. For the potato crop, a randomized-block statistical design was adopted with two treatments and ten replications, using varieties Ágata and Atlantic. The following treatments were tested: 1. absolute control without inoculum, with pesticides; and 2. use of inoculum (foliar spraying), with pesticides. With the use of inoculum, varieties Ágata and Atlantic showed distinct responses regarding disease incidence and yield. Late blight was the disease that most affected both varieties, but only Atlantic showed a reduction in its incidence when the inoculum was applied. Variety Atlantic also exhibited an increase in the most valued commercial calibers, besides an increase in yield, with the use of the tested inoculum. Cultivar Ágata showed a marked reduction in tuber defects with the use of the inoculum on the plants.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different profile colors based on nutrient flux on microclimate, growth and yield of four rocket cultivars. The experiment was conducted during four months in a protected environment in the NLT system, which consisted of benches composed of eight hydroponic profiles for the plants conduction. The treatments were arranged in a 4x2x2 factorial design, with four cultivars (Cultivada, Folha Larga, Rococo and Runway), two color profiles (black and white) and two growing seasons (autumn and winter). The experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with three replications. The evaluations were realized on every four days, throughout the growth period. Leaves fresh and dry mass, stems and roots, plant height, leaf number and leaf area index were evaluated. The different color profiles resulted in variations on crop growth and production due to the thermal changes within the hydroponic profile. The greatest growth and increased productivity were obtained from plants cultivated in white growing channels during the autumn. The cultivars Cultivada, Folha Larga and Rococo have similar performance, better than ‘Runway’.

An experiment was conducted at Biratnagar, Nepal in completely randomized block design to study the effect of effective microorganisms (EM) and indeginous microorganisms (IMO) along with recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) on the growth and yield parameters of okra (variety: Arka Anamika). The 6 treatments viz. control, EM enriched manure, IMO enriched manure, RDF, RDF+EM, RDF+IMO and control were replicated thrice. The study showed that indeginous microorganisms when incorporated with recommended dose of NPK fertilizer (RDF+IMO) can produce best result in terms of yield and economic return. Rigorous study in multi location and more crops is suggested to develop an integrated nutrient management plan and household waste management.

AbstractThe soil fertility and nutrient availability are limiting factors for growth and plant development. Fermented compost and nitrogen (N)-fertilizer are useful as sources of nutrients to support the growth of plant and microorganisms in soils. The combination of biological fertilizer and chemical fertilizer can support the concept of sustainable and integrated agriculture and minimize the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers. The research was conducted to get the recommended dose of fermented compost and N-fertilizer to increase the plant height and productivity of purple eggplant. The experiment was arranged as factorialized randomized block design and consisted of two factors and two replications, namely fermented compost dose (0, 5, 10, and 15 t ha−1) and N-fertilizer dose (0, 75, 150, and 225 kg ha−1). The observed responses were increase in plant height and productivity of purple eggplant. Compared to the control, the application of 15 t ha−1 fermented compost and 225 kg ha−1 N-fertilizer increased the plant height by 40.76% at 30 days after planting and 57.59% at 37 days after planting and increased the purple eggplant yield by 43.15%. BC ratio of the fermented compost (15 t ha−1) is 1.16 and BC ratio of the N-fertilizer (225 kg ha−1) is 1.09. Recommended dose to increase the plant height and productivity of purple eggplant in vertisol is 15 t ha−1 of fermented compost and 225 kg ha−1 of N-fertilizer.

Present research experiment was conducted in two rabi seasons of 2014-15 and 2015-16 at experimental farm of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Aron, Guna with Twelve treatments of different combinations and doses of fertilizers, bio fertilizers and organic manure along with absolute control on wheat GW-322 in randomized block design (RBD). On the basis of two years results that the maximum grain yield (4708 kg ha-1) was recorded with 100% NPK+10t FYM+ Azotobacter + PSB was statistically at par with 150% NPK or 100% NPK + 20 kg S + 5 kg Zn / ha. treatments. Maximum net return and benefit cost ratio was recorded in 20 kg S + 5 kg Zn /ha applied with 100% NPK.

<p>Eleusine indica populations on oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency have not been reported to be resistant to glyphosate. This study was aimed to report distribution and resistance classification of E. indica population on oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency. The research was conducted on Weed Research Center in Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara from October 2016 until August 2017. This research used Randomized Block Design with recommended dose at 720 g a.i.ha-1 of glyphosate and three replications. Population ESU0 (from Politeknik Negeri Medan Ball Field) as a comparison. Data on average survival, mortality, dry weight, resistance classification of E. indica were analyzeds using IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The results showed that there were 12 E. indica populations classified as glyphosate-resistant (56.52%), 7 glyphosate-resistant developing (30.43%), and 4 populations classified as glyphosate-susceptible (13.04%) with the recommended dose at 720 g a.i.ha-1 from oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency.</p>
