The article discusses the geochemical features of the Tulallar gold field in the Lesser Caucasus. Distributions of gold and accompanying elements (Ag, As, Hg, Bi, Cu, Zn) in metasomatically altered rocks taken from mine workings (ditches, adits, etc.) and wells are considered. The results of analyzes of furrow samples showed that the content of Au ranges from 0.4 ppm to 37.5 ppm, Ag - from 0.5 ppm to 48.4 ppm. In strongly kaolinized, weakly limonitized quartzites, the Au content ranged from 0.4 to 1.2 ppm, Ag - from 4.0 to 8.8 ppm. In the well drilled in the Central Block, closer to the surface, the siliceous breccias contain Au 309-363 ppm, Ag 132-250 ppm, and high As, Bi and Hg contents are also noted. A similar picture is observed in the silicified rocks of the wells of the Western block. Correlations between Au, Ag and other impurity elements were determined using the STAT program. A direct positive correlation has been established between Au and Ag, Au and Bi, Au and Hg. A positive relationship was also found between Ag and Bi, Ag and Hg. Cluster analysis revealed two different mineral associations: 1) native elements and their compounds - minerals and 2) polysulfide. The closest connection is observed between Ag, Hg and Au. Mineralogically, the Ag-Hg-Au-Bi cluster apparently corresponds to an early ore association - electrum, bismuth tellurides, possibly with inclusions of finely dispersed gold. The second, polymetallic cluster is characterized by a weak correlation bond Аs-Сu-Zn, which indicates that polysulfides were deposited later. The largest amount of Au was deposited in the early mineral association.

Abstract Meso-Cenozoic sedimentary cover in the Middle Kura depression located between the Greater and Lesser Caucasus mountain structures contains numerous oil accumulations. According to studies in the Cretaceous and Paleogene strata, sedimentary organic matter is of mixed clastic-marine origin. Moderate amounts of organic matter have been recorded in the Eocene sediments (on average 0.70%), in the Upper and Lower Cretaceous average values made up 0.39% и 0.42%, respectively. Analysis of bitumoid composition suggests that in a number of areas bitumoids have experienced a widespread movement across the sedimentary strata. The results of measurements on isolated samples indicate that the Cretaceous strata have only advanced to the initial hard-coal stage of organic transformation (0.48-0.55%Ro). On vitrinite reflectance data the Eocene deposits in studied areas of the Middle Kura depression have reached initial (brown-coal) stage of catagenetic transformation (±0.48Ro%; est. paleotemperature of 85°C). Nonetheless, analysis of formation conditions of commercial HC accumulations found earlier in the Eocene strata allows considering them the most prospective in the Middle Kura depression.

The northeastern part of the Lesser Caucasus encompasses the western part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is characterized with a prevalence of unique flora and fauna and the availability of rich natural resources, particularly metals. It is known that the long-term exploitation of these resources by surface mining has led to technogenic contamination in the area. Exploitation of ore deposits is associated with the origination of huge hills of waste which cause heavy degradation of pastures, forests, and croplands. A significant part of widely degraded areas in the northeastern Lesser Caucasus is found in the territory of the Gedabek administrative district. This paper deals with the problem of restoration for contaminated lands formed due to raw material extraction on territory of valuable mountain forests and meadows over a long historical period as well as the use of collected technogenic wastes for different purposes (e.g. in land reclamation, construction of motorways etc.).

The article is devoted to the results of a study of the genetic polymorphism of hazel (Corylus avellana (L.) H. Karst.), growing in the Lesser Caucasus within Azerbaijan. For the analyzes used nuclear DNA extracted from sheet material. DNA extraction, PCR and ISSR analyzes were carried out according to standard methods (CTAB, PCR, ISSR protocols). According to the results of analyzes using 4 ISSR primers, the number of identified fragments was 42, which corresponds to 9–12 loci per primer (~10.8). Of the 42 fragments identified, 34 (80.95%) are polymorphic, and 8 (19.05%) are monomorphic. The number of polymorphic loci varies in the range of 7–10. With the smallest number of amplified loci in the UBC811 primer, the largest number of them occurs in the UBC827 primer. Depending on the primer, the number of amplified polymorphic loci varies within 63–90%. The level of ISSR primer polymorphism is on average 86% (75–96%). The average value of the actual heterozygosis (H0) is 0.359, and the expected heterozygosis (HE) is 0.414. According to the results of the cluster analysis, 70 hazel genotypes are combined in 9 clusters. Despite the fact that the populations are remotely and orographically sufficiently isolated, which excludes the flow of genetic information between them, the results of the cluster analysis show that genotypes from different populations are combined into a common sub-cluster in terms of genetic similarity. This is due to the common origin of hazel in populations. In the distant past, this species was represented by an extensive common range, which was fragmented as a result of geological processes. The homogeneous disjunction of the continuous range occurred.
