Industries around the world are improving continuously. They are converted into more efficient, dynamic and productive forms and construction is no exception to this principle. Indeed, this sector had started to get organized during the last decades. Modular design was introduced as an industrialization mean. However, few companies benefit from this concept in order to offer competitive prices and sustainable buildings. This paper, based on two case studies, presents key considerations for a successful implementation of modular design into an existing traditional construction business. Investigations were conducted to analyze the potential synergy and complementarity between modularization and the traditional French construction. The results show that modularization is viewed as a major change in the core business. As a consequence, modularization should be accompanied with a change management process. The results also revealed that modular construction goes hand in hand with a strong focus on technical frameworks. However, during the first implementation phase, spotlights should be slightly more directed into organizational planning and managerial postures.

Due to the inherent inefficiencies in conventional approaches followed in the construction industry and the global demand for lean and sustainable construction techniques, modular construction has witnessed a resurge especially in high-rise buildings. As such, much efforts have been put in studying the use of mass timber for the main structure of high-rise buildings in order to ensure more sustainable developments with high levels of adaptability. In this regard, previous research efforts have primarily focused on the added benefits of mass timber, its structural design and performance, and associated safety requirements. However, owing to the novelty in combining modular processes with timber materials and associated lack of data, several regulatory barriers and contractual issues still exist. To mitigate these issues, this paper studies the specifics of permit approvals and contracting issues in timber high-rise modular buildings. The objective is to develop a comprehensive up-to-date review and analysis of the relevant practices and to conduct interviews with industry experts to analyze their concerns, given the insufficient number of guides and building codes that dealt with these issues. Hence, our study investigates the process of obtaining permit approvals from local jurisdictions in Ontario in addition to the requirements for submission of additional documentation, engineering analysis, and testing. Moreover, it analyzes the initial stage of contractual agreement of stakeholders under the uncertainties imposed on these buildings and evaluates the suitability of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) contracting method. Presenting detailed analysis of the initial planning stages for timber high-rise modular buildings can in turn suggest the best practices to be taken into consideration for the successful implementation of these buildings under the current building code.

This article deals about the challenges of structural changes in manufacturing conditions. The objective of this paper is to present the modular workstations concept based on miniaturization and re-configurability trends. The article is aimed at problems of designing of production systems with a modular construction structure. The modular structure allows an individual and flexible adaptation to varying requirements but also the realization of low-cost solutions for creation of new or modernized production base. The goal is to present the example of modular workstations solutions that correspond with new designing approach. The specification of basics principles, which should help to designing flexible manufacturing systems, discussed in this paper are: modularity; integrability; convertibility; diagnosability; customization. The theoretical part provides an overview of fundamental design principles in manufacturing structures. In the first part of this article are discussed the specification of basic flexibility types in production system and the main impacts influencing design of manufacturing structures. The closing section of the article provides the specification of example solution of adjustable production platform with modular frame (called desktop factory).

This paper describes how Hertfordshire met the challenge of providing a training programme to improve services for older people, with the introduction of single assessment, in the complex setting of a shire county with a number of PCTs, acute trusts, a county partnership trust and a county council social care service.Having set the context for single assessment, it describes the Hertfordshire approach. It focuses on some of the key drivers for successful implementation of such a radical programme of change: the siting of sessions by geographical location, the crucial role of managers and team leaders, setting the context of the sessions in the reality of staff experience, the importance of a shared language, common paperwork and clear protocols, and the role of the local implementation teams in supporting the process both through its implementation phase and into the future.Finally, it recognises that this training programme was only one aspect of equipping staff to be confident and competent in their assessments of older people, and that service improvements will be achieved gradually, requiring commitment from managers and support from the local implementation teams.

Due to the shortcomings of the traditional construction project management system, there is a feeling among those involved in this industry that new tools and approaches should be used to facilitate simple and complex operations. On the contrary, there is no integrated database for all construction sectors, and of course the relationship between these sectors is a major problem for any construction project. The technology and tool that overcomes many of these shortcomings is BIM technology. This paper seeks to identify all the challenges that hinder the successful implementation of BIM and determine important challenges based on Z-DEMATEL-ISM Hybrid approaches. The DEMATEL method is used to obtain the weight of the challenges and the most influencing and influenced challenges. The ISM approach is then employed to design a hierarchical network of challenges and tries to determine the level and impact of each challenge in the planned structure. For closeness to the real-world, Z-number (an ordered pair of fuzzy numbers, where the first component controls on a fuzzy variable, and the second component is a measure of reliability for the fuzzy component) is also used to consider the expert’s mental uncertainties in the final results. This research tries to examine the literature related to the subject and consider the sources and opinions of many professors and university experts based on the filled questionnaires. The findings of this paper show that “misunderstanding the BIM technology” is recognized as the most important challenge with the most weight. At the same time, “lack of governmental support” is the most influencing challenge, and “lack of interaction and teamwork” is the influenced challenge.

Introduction. In the middle of the 20th century, technological progress made it possible to enlarge the building elements of buildings as much as possible, which led to the development of new industrial construction systems and increased production rates. However, to date, the issue has not been completely resolved and remains relevant. Modular construction is not sufficiently widely spread today, but many design experts predict its widespread introduction in the near future. The factor that decelerates the development of modular construction is the lack of theoretical foundations in the field of modular design, as well as significant differences from traditional design approach. Materials and methods. The purpose of this work is to develop the theoretical fundamentals of modular design based on the study of regulatory documents, Russian and foreign sources of research works, as well as the implemented projects. The task is to determine the fundamental features of modular elements of maximum readiness: principles of modular design, parameters of a modular element, advantages and disadvantages of a modular system, features of the design processes. Results. The theoretical basis of modular design includes basic concepts, principles and features; the conceptual design process is described using the case of development of an information model; parameters of modular elements of maximum readiness are presented, and the influence of modular items on the life cycle of a construction facility is analyzed. Conclusions. The presented system of principles of design based on modular elements of maximum readiness and parameters of modular elements allow us to systematize the established theoretical aspects of modularity, which make it possible to make modular buildings. The author formulates a new approach to design, which affects the entire life cycle and serves as the basis for new areas of engineering activities and scientific research.

The deployment of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems worldwide has become an evidence of the unprecedented movement towards integration of information technologies. The importance of continuance usage during the post implementation stage should not be neglected as to secure an optimal advantages offered by ERP system, that is achieved through minimizing ERP system usage barriers. As such, successful implementation of an ERP system does not necessarily guarantee that the system will be comprehensively used or accepted by users of the system. ERP benefits can only be realised and sustained if users continue to have favourable experiences in using the system. While many previous studies have examined ERP system during the implementation phase, only a few have revealed barriers to ERP usage as well its antecedent factors during the post-implementation phase. The purpose of this paper is to determine ERP system usage barriers and unearth the root causes to the barriers. To achieve the aim, this research was guided by the ‘soft-positivism’ paradigm, a paradigm that combines elements of positivism and interpretivism. By using this paradigm, the investigator brought certain prior expectations to the data analysis which are consistent with positivist research and which also build rich explanations from the data, consistent with the interpretive assumption. Based upon the lens of Task Technology Fit theory, this study adopts a qualitative method using multiple case studies. Three Malaysian organisations that had implemented ERP were investigated by conducting 30 semi–structured interviews and reviewing archival records and documents. The interviews were guided by the research objectives. Data were analysed by using open and thematic coding.The finding indicated four major areas of ERP usage problems: system, data, and technical infrastructure and interface problems. Besides that, several antecedent factors to the problems were identified. These factors fall into four major categories: organisation, user, task and technology, and include lack of support from either external or internal expertise, lack of individual strength and limited technology affordance. The outcome of this study was encapsulated in the form of the ERP Sand Clock Barriers and Antecedents Model.The paper contributes to post-implementation ERP system literature by stressing the complex relationships between usage barriers and antecedent factors. By identifying the underlying causes of SAP usage barriers, it could become the motivating factor for individual users to undertake reflective feedback and to achieve extended use of the implemented ERP system.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most common diseases worldwide. The demands on health services are rising as more people are diagnosed with the condition. In order to meet this demand, eHealth systems are increasingly being integrated into nursing care. Methods: Between November 2018 and February 2019, a literature search was carried out in the databases PubMed and CINAHL. Results: Twenty articles were found on nurses' use of eHealth systems, the majority with patients with diabetes. From this research, it would seem that eHealth systems have had a proven positive influence on patients' state of health and understanding of therapy. Subjectively perceived communication with the nursing staff also improved. Problems can arise in the implementation phase. Conclusion: In the future, increasingly, nurses will have to integrate eHealth systems into the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes. It is important that nurses understand such systems in order to guarantee a sustainable and successful implementation.

Engaging stakeholders in child mental health evidence-based treatment (EBT) implementation projects may increase the likelihood of successful implementation; However, little is known about the extent of stakeholder engagement to inform the implementation of EBTs. We conducted a scoping review to characterize stakeholder engagement in child mental health EBT implementation projects. We performed data extraction and synthesis to describe key study and stakeholder characteristics, stakeholder engagement methods and rationales, reported impacts of stakeholder engagement, and quality of reporting on stakeholder engagement. We identified a total of 103 unique child mental health EBT implementation projects. The largest number of projects were in the United States and conducted in community mental health settings. Most projects engaged EBT providers during the active implementation phase and with limited depth, often gathering information from stakeholders about barriers and facilitators without sharing decision-making power. Across projects, impacts of stakeholder engagement spanned all implementation outcomes. Given that stakeholder engagement is often shallow and follows initial implementation efforts, additional effort should be made to increase engagement to preempt challenges to EBT implementation and ensure implementation success. Such efforts may ensure the just distribution of power in EBT implementation efforts and could be essential in addressing mental health disparities.

Modular design and construction is one of the distinctive features of the 3rd generation nuclear power technology. In order to promote the technological innovations in nuclear power engineering design and construction and develop the self-owned modular technology, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co., Ltd (hereafter referred as to CGNPC) has carried out the R&D and application of the modular technology based on the CPR1000-type nuclear power plants, and has made the national-level achievements in the establishment of modular design technology system, development of 3D modular design system and application of modular construction of containment steel liner in the demonstration projects.
