Way back in the 1980s corporations began collecting, combining, and crunching data from sources through-out the enterprise. This approach was widely accepted as a methodology that provides objectivity and trans-parency in decision-making. Good processing of the garnered data paved way for improved analysis of trends and patterns leading to better business and increased profit margins. Corporations began investing in collect-ing, storing, processing and maintaining enterprise wide data. The focus was always on the quality of data and the process of converting it into knowledge that enables right decisions. It was soon realized that a wide range of personal biases has an impact on the way decisions are made. The entire process is replete with ethical dilemmas. This paper provides a framework to understand the interplay of data, information, personal biases, ethics and decision-making. This approach is suitable for every individ-ual, team, organization or a nation. Several years of turmoil in South Africa make it imminent for it to take a fresh look at the way data is transformed into knowledge. The leadership within South Africa has to arrive at wise decisions that can withstand the scrutiny of generations to come.

This study set out to investigate what role the quality of the relationship between business leaders and their employees played in the performance of their business. The study compared the business performance of forty-five area managers in one of the major listed banks in South Africa with their specific leader/employee relationship profiles. The research approach was quantitative and of a correlational nature. The results indicate that although certain elements within the relationship between business leaders and employees indeed have an influence on business performance this alone was not a sufficient condition. The study suggested that the dimensions relating to vision, trust, accountability and decision- making have the strongest influence on business performance. Further research in this area is suggested.

Jerome Kassirer, in a current issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, expressed the fear that: market-driven care is likely to alienate physicians, undermine patients' trusts of physicians' motives, cripple academic medical centers, [and] handicap the research establishment ... On the one hand, doctors are expected to provide a wide range of services, recommend the best treatments, and improve patients' quality of life. On the other, to keep expenses to a minimum they must limit the use of services, increase efficiency, shorten the time spent with each patient, and use specialists sparingly!

As of end of December 2010, Taiwan reports over 160 colleges and universities and is proclaimed as a country that reports highest college density. Therefore, a heavy impact and acute competition between colleges and universities has made the schools spare no effort to enhance quantity & quality of teaching and research related resources to stay competitive. However, a large improvement is required to the existing university e-libraries in terms of manpower allocation, budget amount, software & hardware facilities, quantity & quality of library collection and management philosophy deficiencies. Therefore, the management of various libraries needs to reinforce librarians’ capabilities in management and decision making to enhance overall library performance. The paper mainly follows various decision-making thinking, decision-making philosophy, decision-making mindset, decision-making methods and decision-making discipline ideas of Habitual Domains, with over 10 years personal experience of being a curator of university library considered to come up with strategies that are beneficial to the decision making thinking of university curators in Taiwan, so as to achieve the performance of library affairs and to expect to enable a new opportunity for the future development of university e-libraries in Taiwan.

Dentistry is undergoing a deep transformation in its way of producing, using and interpreting the scientific knowledge. The need for utilizing the best possible evidence for the understanding of the physical and biological processes, as well as to clinical decision making, has risen the interest in the study of subjects that were not regarded as important before. In this scene, the capacity of evaluating the quality of different studies and of producing them under international standards has enhanced the seeking for knowledge in scientific methodology. The way by which the data are obtained and the procedures are performed in research might definitively influence its capacity to generate evidence. Thus, training, reproducibility and calibration are principles that have to be part of everything concerning the process of creating and using the knowledge.

Background: Observational health data has the potential to be a rich resource to inform clinical practice and regulatory decision making. However, the lack of standard data quality processes makes it difficult to know if these data are research ready. The EHDEN COVID-19 Rapid Col-laboration Call presented the opportunity to assess how the newly developed open-source tool Data Quality Dashboard (DQD) informs the quality of data in a federated network. Methods: 15 Data Partners (DPs) from 10 different countries worked with the EHDEN taskforce to map their data to the OMOP CDM. Throughout the process at least two DQD results were collected and compared for each DP. Results: All DPs showed an improvement in their data quality between the first and last run of the DQD. The DQD excelled at helping DPs identify and fix conformance is-sues but showed less of an impact on completeness and plausibility checks. Conclusions: This is the first study to apply the DQD on multiple, disparate databases across a network. While study-specific checks should still be run, we recommend that all data holders converting their data to the OMOP CDM use the DQD as it ensures conformance to the model specifications and that a database meets a baseline level of completeness and plausibility for use in research.

Globalisation is continually shaping the way we live, we travel and also the way and structure we work. It is generally acknowledged that there are a number of fundamental factors that play a crucial role in the business life cycle. Management is one of the main pillars of the organization because it provides direction, implementation, and coordination, so that organizations can attain their goals. An organisation’s life depends heavily on the quality of management. If there is any lack within the management element, it may severely limit an organisation’s existence. It is thus imperative to put all the elements in the right shape and place. Yet still this may be insufficient, due to ever growing competitiveness. Vision, strategy and innovation are fundamental in business enterprises but there are other issues related that have an effect to the management and need careful consideration. This study lists a number of specific challenges (namely leadership, innovation and human resources) that businesses and management is encountering and ought to be facing in several decades to come, and offers recommendation to the topics brought forward

Abstract In the article the way of improvement quality of life as users and maintainers of technical means is presented. It is assumed that it is necessary to keep the fundamental of sustainable development. Therefore the application of the scheme of the process of satisfying needs is shown. It helps establish the activities necessary to achieve this goal and enables to plan required information resources. In the range of exploitation and design tasks the application of original strategy of exploitation by older persons was proposed. This strategy uses 6R method which in the future will be supplemented on elements commonly executed strategies and policies of exploitation. Decision making in accordance with proposed strategy will be possible by performing calculations and simulation with the use of multidisciplinary model, whose conception was indicated in the article and which uses matrix of assessment of the quality of life.
