Practicing good advocacy in the new millennium may not be that different than it was in the century just past. What is different are some of the new challenges to be faced in becoming and remaining an effective and successful advocate. The foundations of skillful advocacy are best set down at the outset of one's legal career, and the development of the art must at all times be considered from its human, legal, and ethical sides. While the evolution of the practice of law is built upon the careful and steady historical ascendancy of precedent, there are practices and rules in our age that need to be critically examined. In this lecture, delivered before an audience comprised mainly of people newly entering the legal profession, the author shares his thoughts on the contemporary practice and ethical strictures of good advocacy. He draws on a wide body of knowledge, personal experience, and established practices in the legal profession, and imparts lessons on a thorough range of advocacy topics, including the importance of preparation and presentation, the art of examination and cross examination of witnesses, and tactics for addressing juries.

Both the CIO and the CEO are practicing leadership. One of the defining charac-teristics of leadership is the ability to develop and implement appropriate responses to a variety of problem situations. Leaders must solve an array of problems includ-ing resource allocation, interdepartmental coordination, interpersonal conflict, and subordinate morale to name a few. In order to effectively solve such problems, leaders must draw on a body of knowledge gained from formal education, advice from other leaders, and personal experience (Hedlund et al., 2003).

The present text discusses the significance of the post- modern condition in contemporary archaeology. Five themes associated with postmodernism are discussed (a) the relativization of truth, knowledge, and mean- ing, (b) the fragmentation of the grand narrative, (c) the relation between agency and discourse, (d) plural- ism, multivocality, and heterogeneity, and (e) rhetoric and styles of writing. In contemporary debate it has been suggested that postmodernism is a past phase and that these contested issues have become less im- portant. It is, however, argued here that these are by no means resolved, but rather bypassed by shifting focus to archaeology as a contemporary practice or, in theoretical terms, towards particularistic neo-ma- terialist ontologies.

Although 1980s popular feminisms were crucially concerned with the (gendered) class interests of women from the popular sectors, the concerns of racialized women were generally obscured. In the context of the new millennium, contemporary forms of self-identified popular feminisms such as the World March of Women are broader, cross-class, and multiscale coalitions that create new challenges for representation in decision-making beyond the local. These contemporary coalitions also aim for greater systemic change, explicitly embracing anticapitalism and feminism, but have generally maintained the primary gender-class focus of earlier popular feminisms, hindering their attention to antiracism and sexual identities.

Abstract: Is it possible that the Theology of Liberation (TdL) – a modality of the theological production that was born with a seemingly inexhaustible vitality – may be dead? Seeking an answer to this question, this article outlines a wide and multicoloured panorama of the Theology of Liberation produced in Latin America, at first, in the 70s and 80s, with an exuberant intellectual effervescence that gradually cooled down in the 90s. The author critically analyses the main theses proposed by the TdL; looks at some of its most representative authors, bringing out their strong and weak points, theiromissionsandtheirlimitations.Itcorroboratestherelative “cooling down” of the TdL in the past decade and, finally, suggests ten ways that may help the TdL to recover its strength in order to face the new challenges that have appeared in the past decade and that have become, in fact, tasks awaiting for a creative solution in this beginning of a new millennium.
