The Latin American educational context contains particular features (aspects) that make the Learning - Teaching in higher education process a real challenge for the professor, the student and for the institution that makes it necessary to design a model based on four relevant lines of work. Leadership, technology, research and projects.Lines of work that influence the gap between the expectations and needs of the community with respect to teacher productivity and competitiveness. For this reason we propose a model appropriate to the context that seeks to work in conjunction with networks and communities of professionals of the Ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in addition to the main actors of educational institutions. The model aims to achieve in educational institutions a worldwide competitive level, which allows to face the new challenges of the 4th industrial revolution that were set in the World Economic Forum in 2018. Forming competitive professionals and prepared for these new challenges with international validations of their skills, which allow us to meet the commitments and expectations with society to be generators of research, innovation and development that contributes to the growth and improvement of our communities.

Although many believe that “mass higher education” increased opportunity and egalitarianism in postwar American society, the reality has been quite different. While a greater proportion of students are enrolled in higher-educational institutions now than at any other point in history, economic inequality is at an all-time high. Postwar American campus novels largely misunderstand this historical development. While the genre represents the university as an institution that combats social inequality by expanding enrollment, these novels simultaneously obscure the social inequality that the university cannot combat and instead helps to legitimate. The symbolic work of American campus novels has thus been to imagine a system that stages social conflicts between the deserving and the elite when in fact the postwar meritocracy has made the two categories functionally indistinguishable.

AbstractThe year 2020 is mostly known to many as an inflection point. A metaphorical vision to look far ahead, with clarity, taking on the various “disruptions” that have been much touted, namely, the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Since its pronouncement, four years ago, during the 2016 World Economic Forum in Davos, the world of higher education has been inundated with demands to introduce the so-called ‘Education 4.0’.

The growing changes brought about by new concepts and new technologies, such as Industry 4.0, have demanded that educational institutions seek new teaching and learning methodologies, as well as new resources that can contribute to the training of the future engineer. This chapter demonstrates some practices adopted in the process of training the future engineer in a university center in the interior of the state of São Paulo through the use of the CDIO initiative. The results presented confirm the importance and necessity of changes in the teaching and learning process in higher education institutions.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had profound consequences on the social, economic and cultural life at the global level. The educational dimension has also been affected in the schools’ regular functioning, with the temporary closure of educational institutions, as well as the impediment of face-to-face classes. This perspective paper aims to add to the knowledge already produced on this topic, by arguing that these challenging conditions can be a pivotal moment of opportunity for reshaping higher education, with the implementation, development and diffusion, among academics and students, of digital technologies. The paper also discusses the role of leadership in the transformation of organizational culture in higher education. The methodology used to carry out this study is qualitative, and the technique employed to analyze the data collected was content analysis. Research studies, in diverse formats, already published on the COVID-19 topic and its impacts were the elected data sources. The results of this document analysis allow us to conclude that there is the need to improve the digital sustainable development in teaching in higher education, which entails profound challenges that higher education institutions need to face and overcome if they want to be at the forefront of success in the international education market. This is where the authors seek to contribute, by offering insights on the challenges—but also the opportunities—that COVID-19 poses to higher education at a time when it needs to redefine its teaching methods, leadership models, and interaction channels, by going digital towards the improvement of the sustainable development of its teaching.

It is in this complex, unpredictable and constant changing context that, more than ever, educational institutions should benefit from their most precious intangible asset: their alumni, that is, their former students. The approach to the theme of developing a strong partnership with alumni has been scarce in the literature on higher education. This article aims to contribute to bridging this gap by addressing the ways in which higher education institutions can develop synergic relationships with the community of their former students with clear benefits for both parties. Considering the questions of Latin-American development is impossible without taking into account the existing environmental problems of the region. The human impact on the environment gave birth to new challenges, which were initially perceived as a local, but later moved to the global level. The so-called «eco-territorial turn» that we can observe in some Latin American countries was a reaction to the expansion of the neoextractivist policy of the authorities, which support the «Consensus of Commodities». The latter brought new forms of inequality and potential conflicts to the Latin American society. In our opinion, these trends can be seen not only as local forms of the mentioned problems, but also as possible ways to resolve them.

Higher educational institutes today need to focus on identifying the requirements of industry as well as the market, so that they can help students develop the necessary skills and enable them to work with intelligent machines in today's era of the 4th industrial revolution which is also termed digitalization. Digitalization has increased pressure on educational institutions to update their existing curricula and course contents. It is important to note that, while industry as well as educational institutions in the developed world are rather quick on embracing such trends, developing economies often lag behind. Universities in developed countries are mostly on the path towards a hybrid way of teaching, while those in developing countries, such as Pakistan, frequently struggle to make these changes. This chapter seeks to provide suggestions and recommendations for the higher education sector, including universities and policymakers. It identifies the role that the higher education sector must play in preparing and upskilling future employees for Pakistan's digital future.
