Castellated girders having straight or curved profile are extensively used in structural application due to its aesthetics, versatility, economy and ease of use. The present paper is focused on Finite Element Analysis of curved castellated steel beam. The prime objective is to study the impact of opening and rise on behaviour of these curved steel beams. A parametric study has been conducted on arched castellated girder for various ratio of depth to opening for variable degree of curvature proportional to the span of the girder. The main focus of study in this paper is the temperature variation that exists between building interior and external environment. The FEA study reveals from the results that mid span deflection of beam increases with increase in size of opening. It is also observed that there is a sudden reduction of stresses when the span to rise ratio is reduced from 7 to 6.

A mechanical behavioural analysis can be useful at different stages of the product development process, and there are different scenarios where a FE (Finite Element) analysis can support the design phase. Unfortunately, preparing a model suitable for the FE analysis and solving a FE problem are time expensive and need a considerable involvement of simulation experts. In this paper, we analyze several scenarios of product development process, where an a posteriori criterion allows exploiting some existing FE analysis results. Their common denominator stands in the evaluation of the impact of the component shape modifications on the accuracy of existing FE results, by means of an a posteriori FE error indicator. It is computed using the stress and strain fields over the component. This indicator is targeted to determine whether a shape sub-domain has some influence over pre-existing FE analysis results, i.e. whether an accurate FE analysis needs to use a model including this sub-domain. Here, we will describe the input and output parameters of our a posteriori indicator and what are the requirements for its incorporation in the different scenarios. Each of the proposed scenarios will be analyzed and illustrated to identify its potentials and requirements.

The corrugated webbed prestressed (CWPS) composite member was developed to improve the efficiency of the prestress introduced into the steel beam, and experimental studies were performed to examine its structural behavior. Additionally, a unified analysis model that can estimate the nonlinear flexural behavior of the composite member and the accordion effect of the corrugated webbed steel beams at the prestressing stage was proposed. As a consecutive experimental series, in this study, the discontinuous-webbed prestressed (DWPS) composite member was developed, and this innovative composite member can reduce the amount of steel materials used, compared with the former CWPS composite member. Flexural tests were carried out to investigate their structural performances, and their behaviors were analyzed in detail by a nonlinear finite element analysis.

Currently, the castellated steel beams are used widely because of their useful structural applications and serviceable performance due to their good significant properties such as light weight, facility in construction, materials economize and strength. The castellated steel beam fabricated from its origin solid beam (I-beam) by cutting its web in a zigzag path and then re-joined the two halve by welding so the height of the castellated beam expanded about 50%. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of castellation with and without strengthening on the structural behaviour of castellated beams and compare the results with the origin solid steel beam. Three castellated beams with deferent configuration in addition to solid beam subjected to two equal point loads at mid third of span with simple support condition were analysed numerically using finite element analysis by Abaqus software virgin (6.14.5) .The results show that the load carrying capacity values of castellated steel beams that represent (second, third& fourth) models were increased by (39.11,105.95&124.77) % respectively compared with origin solid beam  due to increase beams stiffness after castellation and strengthening process, while mid-span deflection values at service load were decreased by (36.36,9.10&27.27) % respectively comparing with the origin solid steel beam due to increasing section dimensions and stiffness after castellation process and using strengthening technique respectively. Also it was seen that the maximum ultimate moment and ductility were observed in the fourth model that strengthened by high strength concrete and lacing reinforcement so they increased by 124.79% and 165.65% respectively as compare to reference beam, while the third model that strengthened by high strength concrete was stiffer than other beams.

Background: The main objective of this study is to simulate the behaviour of steel beam-to-column connections using the computer package of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) known as “ABAQUS”. Objective: This paper presents the investigations of extended End-Plate connections (EP). A one-model segment is examined under the impact of concentrated load and the exclusive boundary conditions were tested. The analysis of the nonlinear behaviour of the connection is a complicated science and needs to use programs to solve this problem. Experimental works are normally conducted for this type of studies which used more of money, time and effort. Therefore, with the availability of simulation applications, these problems can be addressed. Results and Conclusion: The results of the evaluation were compared with the experimental data from the available literature. In this case, nonlinearity materials were used. A sample study on EP connections was carried out using both material and geometric nonlinearities. The comparison of FEA results with corresponding experimental results confirms the correlation and convergence between them.

The prime objective of this book is the use microeconomic analysis to guide and provide insight into the generation and adoption of new products. Taking an approach that uses minimal formal mathematics, the volume initially addresses questions of definitions, sources, and extent of product innovation, differentiating between goods and services; hard and soft innovations; horizontal and vertical innovations; original, new to market, and new to firm innovations. The sources of product innovations (e.g. R&D, design, and creativity) are explored empirically, and the extent of such innovations is then pursued using survey and other data. Three chapters are devoted to the theoretical analysis of the demand for and supply of new products and to the determination of firms’ decisions to undertake product innovation. Later chapters encompass empirical evidence on the determination of the extent of product innovation, the diffusion of such innovation, the impact of product innovation on firm performance, price measurement, and welfare, while the final chapter addresses policy issues.

Abstract. Coralline algae are important habitat formers found on all rocky shores. While the impact of future ocean acidification on the physiological performance of the species has been well studied, little research has focused on potential changes in structural integrity in response to climate change. A previous study using 2-D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) suggested increased vulnerability to fracture (by wave action or boring) in algae grown under high CO2 conditions. To assess how realistically 2-D simplified models represent structural performance, a series of increasingly biologically accurate 3-D FE models that represent different aspects of coralline algal growth were developed. Simplified geometric 3-D models of the genus Lithothamnion were compared to models created from computed tomography (CT) scan data of the same genus. The biologically accurate model and the simplified geometric model representing individual cells had similar average stresses and stress distributions, emphasising the importance of the cell walls in dissipating the stress throughout the structure. In contrast models without the accurate representation of the cell geometry resulted in larger stress and strain results. Our more complex 3-D model reiterated the potential of climate change to diminish the structural integrity of the organism. This suggests that under future environmental conditions the weakening of the coralline algal skeleton along with increased external pressures (wave and bioerosion) may negatively influence the ability for coralline algae to maintain a habitat able to sustain high levels of biodiversity.

Rotating scanning motor is the important component of synchronous scanning laser fuze. High emission overload environment in the conventional ammunition has a serious impact on the reliability of the motor. Based on the theory that the buffer pad can attenuate the impact stress wave, a new motor buffering Isolation Method is proposed. The dynamical model of the new buffering isolation structure is established by ANSYS infinite element analysis software to do the nonlinear impact dynamics simulation of rotating scanning motor. The effectiveness of Buffering Isolation using different materials is comparatively analyzed. Finally, the Macht hammer impact experiment is done, the results show that in the experience of the 70,000[Formula: see text]g impact acceleration, the new buffering Isolation method can reduce the impact load about 15 times, which can effectively alleviate the plastic deformation of rotational scanning motor and improve the reliability of synchronization scanning system. A new method and theoretical basis of anti-high overload research for Laser Fuze is presented.

A novel liquid phosphorous-containing flame retardant anhydride (LPFA) with low viscosity was synthesized from 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and methyl tetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MeTHPA) and further cured with bisphenol-A epoxy resin E-51 for the preparation of the flame retardant epoxy resins. Both Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements revealed the successful incorporation of DOPO on the molecular chains of MeTHPA through chemical reaction. The oxygen index analysis showed that the LPFA-cured epoxy resin exhibited excellent flame retardant performance, and the corresponding limiting oxygen index (LOI) value could reach 31.2%. The UL-94V-0 rating was achieved for the flame retardant epoxy resin with the phosphorus content of 2.7%. With the addition of LPFA, the impact strength of the cured epoxy resins remained almost unchanged, but the flexural strength gradually increased. Meanwhile, all the epoxy resins showed good thermal stability. The glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Td) of epoxy resin cured by LPFA decreased slightly compared with that of MeTHPA-cured epoxy resin. Based on such excellent flame retardancy, low viscosity at room temperature and ease of use, LPFA showed potential as an appropriate curing agent in the field of electrical insulation materials.

The advent of Internet has provided banks an opportunity to reduce costs, increase customer base, and mass customize by delivering their products and services through this medium. A flurry of studies on Internet banking (IB) has since emerged. The majority of these studies, however, have been directed to either IB adoption or IB service quality delivery. With few exceptions, the impact that customer satisfaction with e-banking service qualities has on IB usage remains unexplored. This study examines a sample of Australian IB users based on their frequency and length of usage. The results show that as customers become more acclimatized to IB, they use these services more often. Further, daily and frequent IB users are more pleased with “ease of use” and “aesthetics” and tend to use IB more for electronic fund transfer and foreign exchange transactions than the less frequent users. The findings suggest that banks need to develop more customized services since there are distinct market segments with different banking requirements.

Abstract Purpose This study explores pre-service preschool teachers’ acceptance and self-efficacy towards Educational Robotics (ER) during a university course, and also examines their perceptions of the course. Methodology This is a one-group intervention study with an associational research design that includes both quantitative and qualitative research methods: two pre-questionnaires and two post-questionnaires on pre-service teachers’ acceptance and self-efficacy towards ER, and participants’ training journals. Findings The results show that pre-service teachers’ acceptance and self-efficacy towards ER improved after they completed the ER teacher training course. There was a significant difference between the start and the end of the ER training in the pre-service teachers’ acceptance of ER in the areas of perceived ease of use, enjoyment and attitudes, and in their self-efficacy. The findings based on the training journals show that participants positively evaluated the course. The participants also provided suggestions for improving it, such as additional training sessions, resources and time for experimentation. Value Our study reveals the impact of an ER training program and showcases the importance of integrating ER in pre-service teachers’ education.
