[This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology] Aim/Purpose: This article examines how learning activities draw on resources in the work context to learn. Background: The background is that if knowledge no longer is seen mainly as objects, but processes, how then to understand boundary objects? Our field study of learning activities reveals the use of pictures, documents and emotions for learning in the geographically distributed Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority Methodology: The study is a qualitative study consisting of interview data, observation data, and documents. Contribution Contribute to practice based theorizing. Findings: Three ideal types of representing practices have been identified, i.e., ‘Visualizing’, ‘Documenting’ and ‘Testing’. All three are combined with storytelling, sensing, reflections and sensemaking, which point at the importance of processes in learning. The article also add insights about how emotions can be an important resource for boundary spanning – and sensemaking – by creating the capability of reflecting upon and integrating different knowledge areas in the in- practice context. Recommendations for Practitioners : Look for boundary objects within your field to promote online learning. Recommendation for Researchers: Study boundary objects in work context to understand learning. Impact on Society Role of objects in human learning. Future Research: Focus on how emotions can be used for online learning.

This article reports on a study of learning and the coordination of activities in a geographically distributed community (a research consortium) using survey / Social Network Analysis methods combined with interviews. This article comments on and expands some of the important issues that were raised. After outlining the wider context, it highlights two broad themes related to research in the area of Virtual Communities: the nature of the communities themselves and the way in which they are studied. Following this, four areas for future research are outlined: the continuing role of face-to-face communication in Virtual Communities; the significance of the dual nature of such groups; the importance (or otherwise) of the structure of such communities; and the role played by exogenous factors. The article concludes with some comments on where this field relates to the debate among social theorists about the role of agency and structure in human activities.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, learning was carried out online. It takes student activeness with the right approach and method to provide maximal learning experiences and learning outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to describe the application of the facilitated e-learning approach combined with the 5E method on student activeness in learning. This paper used the descriptive qualitative research method. Students are imagebearers of God so a teacher should view students as special and valuable. Students have reason and ability so it can be said that they are active individuals. Therefore, a teacher should always encourage their activiteness during the learning process. Implementing the facilitated e-learning approach with the 5E method is the right solution because the students carry out learning activities independently with the teacher in the role of facilitator. This has the potential to encourage student activeness in online learning so that students can get the maximum learning experience and learning outcomes and teachers can provide God-centered learning. In applying these approaches and methods, a teacher needs careful and measured preparation in order to provide the maximum learning experience even though it is carried out online.

BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Selama pandemi covid-19, pembelajaran dilaksanakan secara daring. This study compares participant perceptions of and performance in individual and collaborative activities using an emergent online learning tool with a variety of sophisticated features, including the ability to move dynamically between individual and collaborative participation. Study findings indicate that when engaging in online learning activities, participating in collaborative activities leads to more favorable attitudes toward the experience as well as higher levels of perceived learning than engaging in individual activities. Further, the average quality of responses on collaborative activities is higher than average responses on individual activities. Implications for future use of online, distributed learning tools are discussed along with implications for related future research.

Aim/Purpose The goal of this project was to determine what effects exposure to online K-12 teaching and learning activities had on teacher candidates’ perceptions of K-12 online learning, how the exposure allowed teacher candidates to reach greater understanding of online pedagogy, and what effect such exposure had on teacher candidates’ aspirations to complete virtual field experiences. Background With an increasing number of K-12 students learning online within full-time online schools and in blended learning environments, universities must prepare future educators to teach in virtual environments including clinical practice. Before engaging in online field placement, preservice teachers must be oriented to online K-12 teaching and learning. Methodology Using a design-based, mixed-method research methodology, this study drew samples from four sections of a hybrid technology integration course. Preservice teachers’ papers detailing their perceptions, focus groups, and surveys were used to gauge changes in perceptions of online learning after participating in online teaching and learning activities. Contribution The study demonstrated that an exposure to online K-12 classrooms stimulated preservice teachers’ interest in online teaching as they began to feel that online education could be equivalent to traditional education. Findings Students’ perceptions positively improved the equivalency of online learning to traditional schooling, the possibility of positive relationships between teachers and students, and the ability to create interactive learning. Students also reported being more knowledgeable and showed increased interest in participating in virtual field experiences. Future Research Future research may continue to examine if the exposure course, combined with a short-term clinical experiences and long-term online apprenticeships may serve to prepare graduates with the skills necessary to teach in classrooms of the future.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, most, if not all, courses were shifted to online learning formats. In this article, we share our experiences related to teaching and learning in a completely online, condensed (seven-week) graduate-level course during the fall 2020 semester. More specifically, we discuss the important role of emotional literacy as a mechanism for framing online course design, adaptation, and evaluation. We explore emotional literacy in terms of its necessity in teaching and learning in online contexts during a pandemic, beyond the scope of other obviously important non-traditional literacies, such as technological and informational literacies. To conclude, we offer practical suggestions for online course design, adaptation, and evaluation using emotional literacy as a framework and provide considerations for future research.

This chapter focuses on the strategic management of established multinational corporations (MNCs) that operate across multiple locations and how they have addressed the core strategic challenges of how to organize and manage geographically distributed locations. The chapter summarizes the conceptual foundations of MNC strategic management: the global integration / local responsiveness (GI/LR) framework, MNC capabilities for innovation and cross-border learning, the network model of the MNC, and the process approach. This chapter briefly surveys recent research trajectories, including subsidiary management, the role of headquarters, typologies of MNCs, and research on people and processes. Then the chapter identifies questions for future research in terms of four arenas: the changing balance of global integration and local responsiveness, managing regional strategies, cross-border learning in an era of growing resistance to globalization, and MNC responses to global external challenges of climate change and the threat of pandemics.
