Currently, distance learning is increasing its application in Mexican Universities; despite that it is not enough to satisfy the demand of higher education in Mexico. This paper presents a comparative analysis of undergraduate student performance in two systems: face-to-face and On-Line education. This analysis was realized with two different courses: Local area network and Interconnectivity. These two courses are part of the Computer Engineering curricula. The results show two important issues: the students are more participative and the team work is improved in the on-line class. The original idea of this work was to quantitatively evaluate face to face and On-line educational systems applied in computer networks. Finally they could not be compared in that manner. Both systems are options that the students have, and according to their profile they can choose the most convenient alternative. Finally, the Internet is a tool, it does not give better or worse education by itself, it has some advan-tages/disadvantages that should be taken into account when an On-Line course is designed.

This report focusses on the planning and realization of an interdisciplinary local area network (LAN) for medical research at the University of Heidelberg. After a detailed requirements analysis, several networks were evaluated by means of a test installation, and a cost-performance analysis was carried out. At present, the LAN connects 45 (IBM-compatible) PCs, several heterogeneous mainframes (IBM, DEC and Siemens) and provides access to the public X.25 network and to wide-area networks for research (EARN, BITNET). The network supports application software that is frequently needed in medical research (word processing, statistics, graphics, literature databases and services, etc.). Compliance with existing “official” (e.g., IEEE 802.3) and “de facto” standards (e.g., PostScript) was considered to be extremely important for the selection of both hardware and software. Customized programs were developed to improve access control, user interface and on-line help. Wide acceptance of the LAN was achieved through extensive education and maintenance facilities, e.g., teaching courses, customized manuals and a hotline service. Since requirements of clinical routine differ substantially from medical research needs, two separate networks (with a gateway in between) are proposed as a solution to optimally satisfy the users’ demands.

A new local area network (LAN) concept designed for educational purposes is proposed based upon the standard RS232 protocol. The concept enables students to gain hands-on experience of all seven open system interconnection (OSI) layers. The proposed approach to teaching computer networks has proved very popular with students. At the same time students' comprehension of basic OSI concepts has improved considerably.

The advancement of technology development makes it easier to find and share any information using computer networks. Computer networks have been widely applied in homes and offices. The ease of exchanging data on the network makes the availability of computer networks and information security are vulnerable to attacks by threats. On a computer network, the device which has the vulnerability is a router. A router is the outermost device that connects the Local Area Network (LAN) to the internet so that it can be easily attacked by irresponsible parties. The Mikrotik router is a product that is widely used as a gateway router that connects LANs and the Internet. There are so many tools that can be used to carry out attacks on Mikrotik routers such as Hping3 (DoS), Hydra (Brute-Force), and Exploitation Script (Winbox Exploitation). To find out the security loop in Mikrotik routers, this study uses penetration testing methods and attack techniques such as Winbox Exploit, Brute-force, and DoS. After knowing the security gap, the next step is to provide and implementation recommendations so that similar attacks do not occur any more in the future.

This study examines the impact of interaction human factors with computer used by Local Area Network (LAN) at Regional Office Surabaya Industrial and Trade Training Service. The object of study are employees which worked by LAN Service office and used primary datas non probability sampling with analysis factor throught SPSS 10,0 windows program.The corelation matrix result shows of variable population; Barlets test of Sphericity (BTS) 0,000 proved, and Kayser Meyer Oklin (KMO) 0,671 > 0,50 means sample strength enough. By rotation from 35 variables become 22 variables with cumulative percentation 64,67. Tools is the dominant factor impact of human computer interaction by Local Area Network (LAN). The contribution of variable 10,187%, with eigen values 3,573 consist of; tools by loading variable 0,813, language with loading variable 0,745 and on line by 0,661 variable loading.

Fakultas Ilmu Komputer Universitas Lancang Kuning memiliki banyak pegawai yang tersebar dibeberapa ruangan yang berjauhan. Para pegawai untuk berkomunikasi sehari-hari biasanya dengan cara bertemu langsung (face to face), menggunakan telepon. Maka diperlukan suatu media komunikasi alternatif bagi pegawai dalam berkomunikasi sehari-hari untuk meningkatkan kinerja suatu instansi atau mengurangi biaya untuk berkomunikasi dan membuat komunikasi lebih praktis. Salah satu cara untuk mengoptimalkan sistem komunikasi tersebut adalah dengan mengimplementasikan Voice Over Internet Protokol (VoIP) IP Phone sebagai media komunikasi, dengan memanfaatkan topologi jaringan komputer Fakultas Ilmu Komputer yang sudah ada sebelumnya. Media komunikasi ini dibangun menggunakan server Briker , aplikasi softphone X-Lite dan aplikasi CsipSimple. Teknologi VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) dimanfaatkan sebagai jalur komunikasi yang tidak berbayar (gratis) dan bersifat open source dapat memberikan solusi alternatif komunikasi yang lebih murah. Teknologi ini mampu melewatkan trafik suara, video dan data yang berbentuk paket melalui jaringan IP.

Abstract: The use of computer networks at this time has proven to be a very reliable means of communication and source of information. Government agencies, offices are now using the network as a medium for disseminating information. At present, in the implementation of computer networks, it is very necessary for management to optimize the network itself. Therefore it is necessary to do QoS (Quality of Service) Analysis, in order to get optimal network. QoS (Quality of Service) is a technology that can be applied in computer networks to provide optimal services for network users. With the existence of QoS (Quality of Service) allows network administrators to be able to perform bandwidth management to handle various effects due to congestion (congestion) in packet flow traffic in the network. In performing QoS (Quality of Service), a device that can do bandwidth management to the network is built. Mikrotik Routerboard750 is a network device using Linux-based MicroticOS that can be used in the application of QoS (Quality of Service). Keywords: Computer Network, QoS (Quality of Service), Mikrotik Routerboard750  Abstrak: Penggunaan Jaringan komputer pada saat ini telah terbukti sebagai sarana komunikasi dan sumber informasi yang sangat diandalkan. Seluruh instansi pemerintahan, perkantoran saat ini sudah memanfaatkan jaringan sebagai media sarana penyebaran informasi. Saat ini dalam implementasinya jaringan komputer sangat butuh dilakukan manajemen guna optimalimalisasi jaringan itu sendiri. Maka dari itu perlu dilakukan Analasis QoS (Quality of Service), guna mendapatkan jaringan yang optimal. QoS (Quality of Service) merupakan teknologi yang dapat diterapkan dalam jaringan komputer guna memberikan layanan yang optimal bagi para pengguna jaringan. Dengan adanya QoS (Quality of Service) memungkinkan administrator jaringan untuk dapat melakukan manajemen bandwidth guna menangani berbagai efek akibat terjadinya kemacetan (congestion) pada lalu lintas aliran paket di dalam jaringan. Dalam melakukan QoS (Quality of Service) dibutauhan sebuah perangkat yang dapat melakukan manajemen bandwidth terhadap jaringan. Penerapan SIM telah diamanatkan oleh Undang-undang untuk segera diterapkan yakni pada   Nomor 44 Tahun 2009 Pasal 52. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Mengetahui kendala yang menjadi factor penghambat dalam penerapan system informasi manajemen di rumah sakit. Menghasilkan strategi paling efektif yang dapat mengoptimalkan penerapan system informasi manajemen di rumah sakit. Menggunakan metode FAST dalam merancang system informasi managemen rumah sakit dirumah sakit. Metode yang digunakan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Metode kualitatif pada penelitian ini digunakan untuk membantu proses identifikasi, dalam metodologi pengembangan sistem informasi manajemen rumah sakit dalam guna mendukung keputusan manajemen pelayanan. Metode kuantitatif digunakan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas informasi sebelum dan sesudah pengembangan sistem informasi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kendala utama belum diterapkannya system informasi manajemen di rumah sakit adalah mahalnya biaya membangun system informasi manajemen, Strategi yang efektif untuk menerapkan system informasi manajemen di rumah sakit adalah perkuat komitmen manajemen rumah sakit bahwa sistem informasi manajemen akan berjalan, Dengan metode FAST dapat memperbaiki kualitas informasi melalui aplikasi system informasi manajemen di rumah sakit. Sistem informasi yang dikembangkan perlu diaplikasikan secara on-line dengan menggunakan Local Area Network untuk penggunaan multiuser

A local area network of six microcomputers provided 32 seventh-grade, LD and Chapter One students and their teachers with increased capabilities to access information associated with academic performance. Specific information in the system included descriptions of all academic tasks assigned to students, as well as such basic specifications as date due and point value. As each quarterly period of instruction within the school year progressed, the system accumulated a complete performance record for each student. Students, resource teachers, and mainstream teachers were able to request up-to-the-moment reports of pending assignments, missing work, grades on particular tasks, and estimated overall course grade. Findings obtained during a 27 week field test underscored the feasibility and potential significance of such a system. System use by students and teachers occurred at high levels. All participants indicated that system use was a positive experience and that system operation was important. A significant, positive correlation was obtained for student use and completion of academic tasks. Further potentials for such a computer-assisted information system are evident, including significant forms of home-school linkage and automatic recognition of student performance.
