This study aims to describe the form of supremacy shown by female characters and the factors that cause female characters to become radical in the novels being analyzed. This research is descriptive qualitative in nature. The data of this research are in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that reveal the contents of the story in the novel. The data source of this research is the novel Renjana Dyana by Adimodel published by Elex Media Komputindo in 2015. The approach used is the study of radical feminism. The results of this study indicate that first, the form of supremacy shown by the female character in the novel Renjana Dyana is the effort of the Dyana character to make a change in society to end and destroy all male power which is represented in the form of freedom of attitude, action and thought as well as character courage. Dyana takes a fight against men from the aspect of sexuality. Second, apart from women's supremacy, there are factors that cause female characters in Adimodel's Renjana Dyana to become radical, triggered by three factors, namely patriarchy, religion, and economic conditions.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan secara objektif representasi feminisme dalam novel Nayla karya Djenar Maesa Ayu. Data penelitian adalah perataan, perbuatan, dan peristiwa yang dialami oleh tokoh utama, Sumber data penelitian adalah novel Nayla karya Djenar Maesa Ayu edisi kedua yang diterbitkan oleh Gramedia pada tahun 2005. Data dikumpulkan mclalui teknik dokumentasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Nayla adalah sebuah novel dengan pengarang yang secara sadar ingin memperjuangkan hak-hak perempuan, terutama yang berkaitan dengan seksualitas. Tokoh pcrempuan dalam Naylai adalab seorang perempuan superior, bukan inferior, seorang perempuan yang 'mendominasi' laki-laki, bukan yang 'didominasi' oleh laki-laki. Pengarang juga berusaha untuk mengangkat posisi perempuan dengan menghadirkan seorang karakter perempuan yang menemukan kesadaran akan eksistensi diri, menyadari makna kebidupan dan hidup. Para tokohnya adalah perempuan- perempuan profesional yang bahkan dapat disejajarkan dengan para laki-laki. Mereka adalah tokoh perempuan yang jarang mengurusi urusan rumah tangga Terkait dengan seksualitas, sang tokoh (si pengarang) berpendapat bahwa perempuan tidak selayaknya diperlakukan sebagai objek semata, retapi seharusnya juga memiliki kesempatan untuk bersenang-senang dan disenangkan. Abstract: This research aims to describe objectively the representation of feminism in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu. The research data are speeches, actions, and happenings experienced by the main character. The source of the data was the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu second edition published by Gramedia in 2005. The data were collected through documentation technique and analyzed descriptively. Based on the analysis of the data, it could be concluded that Nayla was a novel whose author consciously wished to struggle for women rights, especially those related to sexualities. The female character in Nayla is a superior woman, not an inferior one; a female who 'dominates' males, not the one who 'is dominated' by males. 'The author also strives to raise women's positions by presenting a female character who has found a consciousness of self-existence, realized the meanings of life and living. The characters are professional women who can even be equalized with men. 'They are female characters who seldom take care of domestic households. Related to sexualities, the character (the author) has the opinion that women should not have been treated as objects only, but should also have been given opportunities to enjoy themselves and to be spoiled. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan transgresi seksual yang terdapat dalam novel Para Penebus Dosa karya Motinggo Busye. Metode yang digunakan dalam artikel ini adalah metode deskriptif analitis. Data dari novel dideskripsikan untuk memperoleh gambaran transgresi seksual. Dalam novel tersebut pelanggaran terhadap kebiasaan seksual, norma, dan kelas digambarkan melalui peristiwa seksual yang dialami oleh para tokoh, terutama tokoh perempuan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tokoh perempuan digambarkan banyak melakukan tindak transgresi dibandingkan dengan tokoh laki-laki. Analisis juga menunjukkan bahwa narator dalam novel memiliki sikap bias gender dan mendukung nilai-nilai patriarki dengan lebih banyak memberikan hukuman terhadap tokoh perempuan yang melakukan tindak transgresi seksual dibandingkan kepada tokoh laki-laki.Abstract:The paper aims at describing sexual transgression in Motinggo Busye’s “Para Penebus Dosa”.  The research applies descriptive method. The sexual transgressions elaborated in the novel are presented through the deviance of sexual affairs, social norms, and class experienced by the characters, especially female character. The result of the research shows that  female characters described in the story committed a lot of sexual transgressions compared to male characters. The study also reveals that the narrator in the novel  has a gender bias act. Moreover, he supports values of patriarchy by giving more punishment to the female committing sexual transgression act than to the male.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mendeskripsikan insting perilaku purposif tokoh dalam konteks keputusan menjadi seorang caleg, (2) mendeskripsikan dampak insting perilaku purposif tokoh terhadap diri tokoh mengambil keputusan novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan penelitian ini teori psikologi sastra insting purposif McDougall. Sumber data secara eksplisit berupa dokumen, yaitu novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini terbitan tahun 2015. Data penelitian berupa kalimat atau dialog, satuan cerita yang mengarah pada insting perilaku purposif yang dilakukan tokoh. Pemerolehan data menggunakan teknik membaca dan mencatat informasi terkait insting kutipan novel. Hasil penelitian dalam novel Namaku Subardj menunjukkan:  (1) bentuk perilaku insting purposif tokoh utama berupa insting menyelamatkan diri, insting penasaran, insting berkontruksi, insting penuntutan, dan insting tertawa dan (2) dampak perilaku dalam pengambilan keputusan, yakni insting perubahan perilaku purposif tokoh dengan lebih meningkatkan kualitas diri melalui literasi untuk menjadi caleg. Kata Kunci: insting, perilaku, psikologi, purposif   AbstractThe research aims to (1) describe the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the context of the decision to become a legislative candidate, (2) describe the impact of the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini. The method used descriptive qualitative. The theory used research is McDougall’s purposive instinct pschology theory. The data source is explicity, the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini published in 2015. The data of this research is in the form of sentence or dialogue, a story unit that leads to the character’s. The results of the research can be understood Namaku Subarjo’s Novel, (1) The form of purposive instinct behavior in the main character is the instict to save oneself, The curios instinct, the construct instict, the instict for prosecution and the laugh instinct, and (2) The impact of behavior in decision making is the instinct for purposive behavior. This research aims at finding the types of swearing expressions and linguistic forms of English swearing used in Richard Wright’s Black Boy. This is a descriptive qualitative research since it describes the phenomena of swearing used in the novel. The data of the research are all the conversations or sentences used swearing in the novel written by Richard Wright namely Black Boy as the main data source. The method of collecting data in this research is observation and teknik lanjut catat. After all the data had been collected then they are coded using the coding system such as data number/title of novel/chapter/page/data. There is no data reduction since all the data are analyzed in this research. This research used theory triangulation. Kind of swearing expressions found in this novel dealing with God and religion terms, name of  animals and plants, part of body, racial terms, stupidity terms, name of occupation, sexual terms, family terms. The linguistic forms of English swearing used in this novel are word, phrase, and clause. The swearing in the form of words consists of (1) noun referring to place, person, occupation, animal, and idea (2) verb and (3) adjective. Phrase consists of (1) noun phrase with swearing functioning as headword, modifier, and both headword and modifier, (2) adjective phrase with swearing functioning as modifier. Swearing expression is also found in the form of sentence.

Karya sastra memang tidak bisa dilepaskan begitu saja dari pengarang dan keadaan sosial yang melatarbelakangi penciptaanya serta segala gejolak kemasyarakatan yang ada seperti kekuasaan dan dominasi yang dirasa merugikan.  Dari tiga rumusan masalah penulis hanya akan memfokuskan pembahasan pada bentuk hegemoni yang dilakukan pemangku adat di Minangkabau. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif.  Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra dan teori hegemoni Antonio Gramsci. Sumber data adalah novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck karya Hamka. Data diperoleh dengan teknik membaca dan mencatat. Hasil penelitian berupa jenis hegemoni yang disadari dan tidak disadari. Terdapat empat bentuk dari hegemoni yang disadari yaitu kekeraan, penindasan, paksaan dan perampasan, sedangkan bentuk dari hegemoni yang tidak disadari berupa provokasi. There is an inseparable bond between a literary work with the background experience of its writer, and the underlying socio-cultural circumstances behind its creation, as well as all the existing disadvantageous problems in society such as hegemony and dominance. Of the three research problems, the discussion in this article will focus solely on the form of hegemony practices done by the Elders in Minangkabau culture. In conducting this research, descriptive qualitative approach is used. Literary sociological approach using the theory of Hegemony by Antonio Gramsci is used as the research approach. The data are obtained by using reading and noting technique. The data source is the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck by Hamka. As the result of the research, there are two type of hegemony practices found, the conscious and unconscious hegemony. The conscious hegemony take four forms, there are: violence, oppression, coercion and deprivation. Meanwhile the unconscious hegemony realized only in form of provocation.

This undergraduate thesis entitled Types of Passive Construction in the Novel Say You’re Sorry by Michael Robotham is aimed at analyzing the types of passive voice found in the novel and figuring out which one among them is the most dominant used in the novel. The data source of this study was taken from Michael Robotham’s Say You’re Sorry which was published by Sphere in 2012. This study is a descriptive qualitative and quantitative research and the method used to collect the data was the documentation method using the note taking technique. The result of this study shows that there are only three types of passive voice found in the novel: be passive, get passive, and bare passive. From 219 passive sentences taken from the novel, 207 of them is be passive with the percentages of 95% while there are only 7 sentences of get passive with percentage of 3% and 5 sentences of bare passive type with the percentage of only 2%.

This undergraduate thesis entitled Women’s Language Used by Female Characters in The Movie How To Be Single. It is aimed at identifying the language features applied by female characters and finding out the functions of each type of women’s linguistic features. This paper used the theory of women’s linguistic features proposed by Robin Lakoff (1975). The data source in this study is the movie How To Be Single.  The collected data were identified and selected, then the features of women’s language used by the female characters in the movie How To Be Single were analyzed  based on Lakoff (1975). The method applied in collecting data was the documentation method. Afterwards, the method of analyzing data in this study was the descriptive qualitative method. This study applied informal method in presenting the data analysis. The findings of the analysis showed that there were nine kinds of women’s linguistic features found in the movie How To Be Single. There were also some functions of women’s linguistic features found in the data. The functions of each type of the features are closely related to the context in which it is used. Each type of women’s linguistic features found in the movie displays has different functions and reasons.

This study aims to describe the principles of nationalism in the Jprut novel by Putu Wijaya. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data source in this research is Jprut's novel by Putu Wijaya. Data collection techniques in this research are done by reading and taking notes and analyze techniques. The reading technique is related to reading and understanding the contents of the novel, while the writing technique is used to record important data or information related to the values of nationalism contained in Jprut's novel by Putu Wijaya. The results of this study indicate four principles of nationalism from the five existing principles. First, the aspect of unity described in the spirit of mutual cooperation delivered by Bung Karno by the main character. The aspect of independence described by the main character in freedom of speech. The aspect of equality illustrated by the anger of local residents when the main character's house flew the flag upside down, and the last is the aspect of personality that is shown by the attitude of the main character that is different from other residents.

The Novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut by Azhari Aiyub depicts a setting that can be used as knowledge related to life in ancient times such as place, time and social, and life lessons.The purpose of this research is to describe the setting of the novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut by Azhari Aiyub. The method used is the descriptive qualitative approach. The research data source is the Novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut by Azhari Aiyub.  This research is text, phrases, and sentences about the setting of the Novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut by Azhari Aiyub. Data collection techniques used are library or literature study techniques. Data analysis was performed using descriptive qualitative analysis techniques. This research results showed that were containof three setting in the Novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut by Azhari Aiyub. First, the most dominant setting is in Teluk Lamuri and Istana Darud Dunya. second, the setting time setting described in the novel without dating and describing the situation. Third, the social setting dominated the typed of attitude and habits to life. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik pustaka atau studi kepustakaan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik analisis kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terkandung tiga jenis unsur latar dalam Novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut karya Azhari Aiyub. Pertama, latar tempat yang paling dominan terdapat di Teluk Lamuri dan Istana Darud Dunya. Kedua, latar waktu digambarkan dalam novel tersebut berupa penanggalan dan penggambaran situasi. This research paper is focused on how Willa Cather portrays the inner rebellion and the passion of a female character, Marian Forrester in her novel A Lost Lady. She walks against the social norms and she is presented as a rigid character who dismantles the male created hierarchy woman as a subordinate being in the society. Though she is married and living happily with her husband, somewhere deep down in her heart she is not happy with her husband. Marian seems to transcend her husband’s order. At that time female were not allowed to enjoy their freedom like the males. Marian goes against male hegemony and to create her separate identity. As a qualitative research, by using radical feminism as a tool of interpretation, the researcher collected textual evidenced from Cather’s novel and interpreted them to fulfill the objective of this research. This research concludes that Cather’s Marian has dismantled the social hierarchy created by the male superiority or patriarchy in the novel.
