Asphalt mixtures are subjected to short-term aging during the production, placement, and compaction processes. Proper evaluation of asphalt pavement performance relies on the accurate characterization of asphalt mixtures during the design stage. In this study, three different loose asphalt mixtures often used in Qatar were evaluated to develop a laboratory short-term aging procedure. Sample mixtures 1 and 3 were collected from a construction site, while mixture 2 was obtained from an asphalt plant. Virgin aggregates and binders were also collected to reproduce the mixtures in the laboratory. Laboratory-produced mixtures were conditioned at 135 °C using various time durations. The mechanical properties of laboratory-produced mixtures were compared to those of mixtures produced on site. The results of the mechanical and binder testing demonstrated that the proper short-term aging protocol for asphalt mixtures often used in road construction in the State of Qatar would involve heating asphalt mixtures for 4 h at 135 °C before laboratory compaction.

Abstract, in case of the construction of road in soft soil, it is necessary toconsider the use of materials around the road construction site, and not touse selected material which is imported from outside the road constructionsite. Thus, aim to overcome the difficulties of using selected materials, namely the difficulty to obtain the materials, the price of expensivematerials , the freight of material that could takes a long time period, highcost, and the use of materials that tend to be environmentally unfriendly. Itis very necessary to learn about the use of nonstandard additive materials, taken to the road construction site, but with the use of geotextilereinforcement. The research method used is a full scale method in the formof trial embankment, so that the performance of the road can be observedfor a long period of time due to the traffic and soil settlement. The resultsobtained is settlement that occur on the road from the combination ofordinary embankment material and local material, most frequently occuredin a larger percentage of ordinary embankment than the local material. While the visual value is relevant to the settlement in which a largerpercentage of ordinary embankment results in a better visual value, due tothe quality of the ordinary embankment material is better than the localmaterial.

This research aims to identify the risk variables that ever occurred while executing of road construction project. In addition, it is to identify how significant and how big the influence of risk variables to the articulation of project execution processes of a road construction project, based on questionnaire that distributed to 30 questionnaires who are project managers and site managers on contractors of road construction project.  From the research data, there were identified 14 risk variables with 84 risk sub-variables on execution of road construction project. Those 14 risk variables were natural, social, politic, economic, law, occupational safety and health, managerial, technical, cultural, logistic, condition around construction site, design and technology, labor, and contractual variables. From the data analysis by using SPSS version 16, obtained there were 14 risk sub-variables which became the most influential sub-variables (indicators) to the road construction project. All sub-variables on the questionnaire are valid and reliable. The results of this research is expected to be considered for all parties involved in the construction project to pay more attention to risk variables during the execution of road construction project.

With the rapid development of the economy in China and the speeding up of urbanization, urban roads and highways in China continue to increase. However, due to some of the characteristics of road construction, long duration, high fluidity, large volume of work and complex process, there exist many security problems during the period of construction, which determines that security management is unoptimistic on construction site. This paper makes a comprehensive research over the achievements of domestic and foreign experts and analyzes the causes of the security incidents in domestic road construction, so as to further clarify that the deep reasons for the security incidents in management. Based on this, the author advances the corresponding security management measures. With comprehensive evaluation methods applied on road construction site, the security situation can be predicted and prevented whenever and wherever possible.

Poland, which biological diversity stands out in comparison with the rest of Europe, became one of the biggest road construction site during the last few years. A development of a road network almost always involves disturbance of biogically sensitive and protected areas. As those areas cover about one third of the whole country it is virtually impossible to avoid conflicts concerning biological protection. For those reasons, steps to be taken to limit to a minimum the incidence of the construction works on the biological environment constitute an integral part of each investment. The costs of protecting unspoiled environment represent up to 30% of the total costs of investments. The effectiveness of planned actions must consequently justify spending the considerable funds involved. Monitoring of the results of solutions used allows both verification of their usefulness and identification possible errors so that they may be avoided in the future. Number of actions which have been undertaken in Poland to minimalize the incidence of roads on unspoiled environment, in particular as regards the number of fauna passes, to preserve the ecological continuity, place Poland among most advanced European countries.

Currently, unmanned aerial vehicles are increasingly being used in various construction projects such as housing developments, road construction, and bridge maintenance. If a drone is used at a road construction site, elevation information and orthoimages can be generated to acquire the construction status quantitatively. However, the detection of detailed changes in the site owing to construction depends on visual video interpretation. This study develops a method for automatic detection of the construction area using multitemporal images and a deep learning method. First, a deep learning model was trained using images of the changing area as reference. Second, we obtained an effective application method by applying various parameters to the deep learning process. The application of the time-series images of a construction site to the selected deep learning model enabled more effective identification of the changed areas than the existing pixel-based change detection. The proposed method is expected to be very helpful in construction management by aiding in the development of smart construction technology.

Problem in road construction project could be triggered by employing a less competent Site Manager either in terms of knowledge and skills or in attitudes in the project. Therefore, an evaluation of the competency of the Site Managers and seeking the required development training to improve the relatively weaker items of competency is needed. This paper presents an evaluation of the competency of Site Manager of road construction project in the West Sumatera Road Construction Project 2014. The evaluation was conducted using expectation and performance analysis and the evaluated items of competency were extracted from Indonesian Standard of Competency for Labour especially for Site Manager of Road Construction. The study found that construction management system, project administration, and resource procurement are among competency factors that fall under average and should be improved in the future. Therefore, development training on those items could be initiated by the owner to reduce the risk of road construction project failure in the future.

Abstract This article analyzes the impact of the construction of the Cinere-Jagorawi (Cijago) Toll Road Section II, which connects the Bogor Highway and the Kukusan area on the environment around the toll road construction site. Most of the Kukusan areas affected by the toll road construction project are open areas and shrubs, which are habitats for wild animals, especially snakes so that the balance of snake habitat in the area is disturbed. The research method used in this study is the historical method which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. In addition to books obtained from several libraries, the data used in this study were also obtained from interviews with people living near toll road construction projects, especially ornamental plant traders. This research shows that environmental changes due to the construction of toll road infrastructure impact the disruption of the habitat of several wild animals and an increase in temperature and concerns about the availability of clean water in the future, especially in the Kukusan area.
