Each school has advantages and good mechanisms that support the implementation of the character education program the study was conducted to explore and obtain a picture of best practices carried out by leading schools implementing the character education strengthening program (PPK). Qualitative research with a collective case study design is used in this study. There are 3 excellent schools that become research locus with 18 respondents who involved as research participants selected using purposive sampling. Exploration was implemented using the interview method, focus group discussion, and direct observation. The results showed that the implementation of character education conducted at the three schools was very effective because it was supported by various policies, concrete actions, and the consistency and seriousness of the school in supporting the program. The best practices that might be used as a model by other schools include praying together, conducting joint worship routines, rotating cults, conducting environmental love programs, literacy, and cultural love programs

The world is presently facing a myriad of environmental challenges. One way to address these challenges is through the development of cognitive abilities to analyse environmental issues and respond to them appropriately. There are a number of approaches used in education processes to develop the cognitive abilities of students; one of them is the use of conceptual or reasoning cartoons. This article reports on an exploratory study of the quality of pre-service teachers’ cognitive abilities in the analysis of three conceptual cartoons depicting real environmental challenges. The study was interpretivist in nature and followed a case study design. The participants were a convenient sample of students (n = 32) at year level three, at a Southern African residential university, doing a Life Science’s teaching methods module. Students were required to analyse three environmental cartoons which they had not previously seen or discussed. The responses were coded according to the basic analytical steps of critical thinking and analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that most responses were framed as descriptions of the cartoon rather than higher order analytical thinking; most students were unable to follow a sequence of analytical thinking; presentation of cognition was textual; and most pre-service teachers’ responses were phrased in a way that made it seem as if they were not part of the environmental issue. It is recommended that Life Sciences’ methodology pre-service teachers be categorically developed in analytical thinking of environmental issues, as they have a crucial role to play as future citizens.

This article outlines the methodology and findings from an interpretive collective case study exploring the professional learning of three elementary music teachers. Participants were purposefully selected based on their differing career stages, background, and teaching situations, and each participant was interviewed five or six times over the course of the 5-month study. Additional data sources included field notes from classroom observations, a variety of artifacts provided by the participants, and responses to Pre-Interview Activity prompts. Through hermeneutic analysis of individual case data related to each participant’s teaching and experience of professional learning, participants were found to have a variety of highly personalized learning processes which they used as mechanisms for their ongoing professional growth. Cross-case analysis revealed three larger themes related to the participants’ professional learning: (1) The quality of the participants’ learning was always instrumental and related to specific personal goals for/issues in practice; (2) meaningful professional learning had a temporal element and was characterized by continuity; and (3) the participants’ professional learning was social in nature.

The paper analyses the selected group of fruit and vegetable producers in terms of answers to three key research questions: which is an innovation in the examined group, how the added value is created and how this group interacts to the local rural community. The selection of this organization for research in the Malopolska province was based on criteria such as organizational innovation, uniqueness of the solution and cooperation with the ODR. Source data was obtained by the direct interview method conducted by the authors with representatives of the Management Board. It was found that the Group is a unique example of vertical integration „forward” and capturing added value from the market by eliminating all intermediaries. It is a business model that covers the whole supply chain, i.e. from the field to the store shelves. The high quality of the products and the large variety of them make it possible to achieve high income and invest in further development. The Group has created new jobs in the local environment, disseminates good practices in orchards, production and processing, and through taxes and sponsorship contributes to the economic development of the local community.

Recently, the quality of graduates and their ability to meet the needs of employers became widely discussed worldwide. Despite the enormous importance of academic knowledge and cognitive abilities, today employment opportunities are more determined on the basis of the concept of soft skills. In Russia, this problem is still unsolved: the training programs of most universities are based on traditional methods with little or no time devoted to the soft skills development. In Europe, this situation has been relevant for several decades due to the global changes in the economy and, accordingly, an acute shortage of jobs. Therefore, the issues of employment and the quality of competencies and skills of graduates have already been studied a lot. The vast experience of Europe can be borrowed by Russian universities, which are just beginning to move towards the development of soft skills and the awareness of the need for their development within the framework of university disciplines. The article describes terminological variations, analyzes different methods and approaches to training and assessing soft skills, as well as presents the best practices of EU countries on teaching soft skills.
