Phraseological expressions which contain at least one body-part are common in all the languages. In this paper we want to compare those kinds of expressions which are formed with the word dorë/ duar in Albanian and hand in English. Our expressions are extracted both form monolingual and bilingual Albanian and English phraseological dictionaries. The expressions we have chosen are analysed from the cognitive standpoint, i.e. when we look at the expressions we try to gain an insight into how these two peoples, speaking languages which are distantly related and different in terms of organisation, see and conceptualize the world around them and as a result shape it linguistically. This process has undoubtedly attracted the attention of researchers (and the resulting ongoing debate) around the world. In order to see how comparable the world view and cultures of these two languages and peoples are we compare the syntactic and semantic structure of phraseological expressions containing the relevant body-part term.

The article introduces a comprehensive analysis of the key concepts in the Even linguistic world view, i.e. shame and remorse. These concepts are represented by the following lexical units in the Even dialects: haldyun has analogies in all languages of the Tungus-Manchu group; nyumar, nyumarin and khadarin are recorded in the Eastern dialect of the Even language; kherkehyi is common in the Lamunkhin dialect. The semantic structure of these lexemes is complex and includes similar concepts of shyness, embarrassment, modesty, and humbleness. The work used the descriptive method, the continuous sampling method, and the conceptual analysis, as well as the methods of definition (highlighting semantic features), etymological analysis, collecting and processing of field data. In the national consciousness of the Even, shame and remorse are concepts that reflect the assessment of one’s behavior in society and attitude to the world. In addition, they also demonstrate strong emotional content.

The article examines cognitive mechanisms of Kuban region set expressions origin, which include animalistic vocabulary and which represent a significant part of dialect picture of the world. The material for the research was taken from regional printed and handwritten lexicographical sources on a subject of Kuban sub-dialects, as well data was collected during long-term dialect expeditions. The results demonstrate the variety of these mechanisms, which are based on actual observations by the sub-dialect speakers on behavior, peculiar appearance, voice, smell of animals and human actions in regard thereto. The amount and variety of selected tokens prove the significance of zoomorphic code in the Kuban region inhabitants’ world view. Ethnocultural conjoinings of set expressions were found, which provide insight into the unique nature of the villager’s world view. The analysis of discursive sources of origin of phraseological units with a zoonym component enabled to trace the birth of a new cognitive structure as a result of conceptualisation of human knowledge. It was demonstrated, that meanings of Kuban phraseological units, being the product of cognitive and discursive activity of sub-dialect speakers, unite the results of sensuous impressions and pragmatist perception of the world around us.

‘The controversy in the Anglican Church around homosexuality within the priesthood is considered in terms of the kind of world-view held by an important faction of those in opposition. An example of research into the world-view of Charismatic Christians running an Anglican outreach project in the UK is taken to gain insight into the world-wide Evangelical Charismatic resurgence. Parallels are drawn with the position taken by the Southern hemisphere Anglicans and it is argued that this opposition is unlikely to be yielding to the secularising influences of pluralistic industrialised societies. Robertson (1985) proposes that religious forms in differentiated societies, such as Charismatic Evangelicalism, draw strength from global integration. It is argued that this thesis is relevant to understanding the nature of divisions within Anglicanism as these world-wide factions cut across and divide a broad church. That the world contains varying conditions of secularisation and counter-secularisation (Berger, 1999) places additional and intolerable strain on a world-wide communion that tries to embrace a plurality.’

Pakistani society is predominantly Hearing. Almost all facilities are provided to the hearing community. Current study is an Endeavour to understand the world-view of Deaf. Participants are school-aged adolescents, Deafness has been studied from a phenomenological perspective, and for data triangulation the teachers of the eight participants were also interviewed. Students and the teachers reported low communication with society as well as with parents, sign language is seldom learnt by significant others and the children feel isolated in a world of their own. Dislike of the hearing community was widespread, limited resources have led to alienation from the hearing society around them. Within the deaf community a feeling of oneness and similarity prevails which in some cases was advantageous and helped build a strong self-esteem whereas in other cases a source of anger for children who felt helpless. Areas used to build on in the research range from social functioning to coping in the hearing world. The aim of this study is to provide insight into deafness while at the same time build insight among the hearing community, in order to level the playing field for both communities and advocate equality. The study offers understanding of what it means to be different, with the findings further elaborated in respects of what could be the case along with what is.

My aim is to establish whether there is a concept of ‘miracle’ or ‘the miraculous’ implicit in the Homeric poems (and therefore perceived and understood by Homer's audience). Such a question is fraught with difficulties, as it necessarily involves broader (and still widely debated) issues such as Homeric man's view of the gods and the essential nature of the early Greek oral epic tradition. But, if an answer can be found, it should in the process help us to gain more insight into those wider issues—the theological basis of the Iliad and the Odyssey, and the world-view of Homer's audience.

The research focuses on the fragment «socio-ethical assessment of person» of the early East Slavic world view. The conceptual domain of the fragment has been illuminated in the substantive-adjectival discours. It is the first time that the hierarchy of lexicalsemantic variants in the structure of the meaning of the terms племя and родъ (descendant → family → tribe → genus, clan → social strata → people) coincides with the hierarchy of individualized and generalized socio-ethical portraits (an individualized portrait of a person → a portrait of a clan, a genus; a generalized portrait of a tribe → a portrait of a social strata → a portrait of a people) within the Kyiv Rus’ period world view. Lexems племя and родъ can be traced back to the roots with the original meaning «which multiplied, increased, grew from one root, from one ancestor» and due to this, are interchangeable in ancient Slavic writing (this is shown in the study of P. O. Lavrovskyi). The microfragment «portrait of the social strata» consists of ethical portraits of princes, princesses, clergy, etc. It was revealed that the semantics of the terms кънuзь and кънuгыни correlates with the semantics of the terms племя and родъ. In the content of all these terms there is a combination of the semantics of birth, family relationships, tribal relations with the semantics of knowledge. In our opinion, the reason for the coincidence of portraitsclergy with portraits of princes is the development of the Indo-European root reflexes (to which the term кънuзь goes back) in the direction of semantics saint, sacred. It was proved that the hierarchy of the world view microfragments repeats social-tribal relations, social and family relationships in Kyiv Rus’. Microfragment «portrait of a clan» is represented by namings Ольговичи, Володимиричи, Ростиславичи, Мстиславичи, etc. In a certain context, the term племя could denote a large family, separate branches of the genus, people, tribe. The conceptualization of an individualized image of a person was determined by its place in the family-class hierarchy. Comparison of socio-ethical portraits of persons of the princely family (grand dukes Boris, Gleb, Andryi Bogolubskyi, Alexander Nevskyi, Izyaslav Mstislavovich, etc.) revealed that the functional-semantic peculiarities of nouns and adjectives with the meanings of an ethical assessment of a person reflect subordination between family members. The article is based on the analysis of Old East Slavic literary monuments of the XI–XIII centuries.

<p><em>The article introduces a new approach in linguocognitology based on the semantic analysis of the lexemes, which may become perspective in the studies of the triad: language-personality-national world view. The papers determines the aim—the research of the semantic structure of the lexemes, and the object—common neutral words “litso” and “a face”. The author analyzes semantic, national-cultural and cognitive parametres of these lexemes. The development of derived meanings based on metaphors and metonymy are describes. A set of methods are used: the method of the analysis of the vocabulary definitions, the component analysis, the comparative method and cognitive interpretation of the data obtained. The anticipated results provide an opportunity to understand and explain the world view in multisystem languages. This research has both theoretical and practical value.</em></p>

The canine heartworm is a common and serious nematode parasite of domestic dogs in many parts of the world. Although nematode neuroanatomy is fairly well documented, the emphasis has been on sensory anatomy and primarily in free-living soil species and ascarids. Lee and Miller reported on the muscular anatomy in the heartworm, but provided little insight into the peripheral nervous system or myoneural relationships. The classical fine-structural description of nematode muscle innervation is Rosenbluth's earlier work in Ascaris. Since the pharmacological effects of some nematacides currently being developed are neuromuscular in nature, a better understanding of heartworm myoneural anatomy, particularly in reference to the synaptic region is warranted.

This essay examines a polemic between two Baudelaire critics of the 1930s, Jean Cassou and Benjamin Fondane, which centered on the relationship of poetry to progressive politics and metaphysics. I argue that a return to Baudelaire's poetry can yield insight into what seems like an impasse in Cassou and Fondane. Baudelaire provides the possibility of realigning metaphysics and politics so that poetry has the potential to become the space in which we can begin to think the two of them together, as opposed to seeing them in unresolvable tension. Or rather, the tension that Baudelaire animates between the two allows us a new way of thinking about the role of esthetics in moments of political crisis. We can in some ways see Baudelaire as responding, avant la lettre, to two of his early twentieth-century readers who correctly perceived his work as the space that breathes a new urgency into the questions of how modern poetry relates to the world from which it springs and in which it intervenes.
