The full conformational space of N-formyl-L-alanine-amide was explored by the semi-empirical method AM1 coupled to the Multi Niche Crowding (MNC) genetic algorithm implemented in a package of programs developed in our laboratory. The structural and energy analysis of the resulting conformational space E(,ψ) exhibits 5 regions or minima ɣL, ɣD, ɛL, D and αD. The technique provides better detection of local and global minima within a reasonable time.

This chapter examines the rules of offer and acceptance in the formation of contract in Taiwan law. An offer is binding unless: the offer states otherwise, the revocation reaches the offeree before or at the same time as the offer, or if the offeree does not respond within a reasonable time. An acceptance only becomes effective when it reaches the offeror. The postal rule does not apply, but if the postal acceptance is delayed for reasons not attributable to the offeree, the offeror who knows of the delay must inform the offeree of it, otherwise the offeror will be bound at the time that the acceptance would normally have arrived. In a ‘battle of forms’ situation there is no binding contract if the different terms are core to the contract. Silence may amount to acceptance if communication of acceptance is waived by the offeror or by custom, or acceptance by conduct is inferred. There is no general requirement of form for a valid contract, but exceptionally, formalities are necessary.

Studying the folding kinetics of an RNA can provide insight into its function and is thus a valuable method for RNA analyses. Computational approaches to the simulation of folding kinetics suffer from the exponentially large folding space that needs to be evaluated. Here, we present a new approach that combines structure abstraction with evolutionary conservation to restrict the analysis to common parts of folding spaces of related RNAs. The resulting algorithm can recapitulate the folding kinetics known for single RNAs and is able to analyse even long RNAs in reasonable time. Our program RNAliHiKinetics is the first algorithm for the simulation of consensus folding kinetics and addresses a long-standing problem in a new and unique way.

The purpose of this study was to examine the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) translated into Turkish for its reliability, discriminant validity, and factor structure in a sample of 276 community-dwelling elderly and 30 patients with major depression. One item (Item 5) was discovered to have conceptual difficulty for Turkish elderly and was transformed to negative form. Item 2 was transformed to positive form to keep the number of positive and negative items equal to that in the original GDS. A reasonable time stability with 1-week interval (r:.74) and a high level of internal consistency (α = .91) were observed. Student's t test resulted in a significant discriminant validity for the scale total score. Factor study with principal component analysis and varimax rotation gave rise to a structure with seven factors. Results of the same analysis with two factors were found to be easier to interpret. The first factor was composed of 19 items reflecting “depressive affect and thought content.” The other 11 items representing “decrease in motivation and cognitive functions” loaded in the second factor. In conclusion, the Turkish GDS was found to have reasonable time reliability, high internal consistency, and discriminant validity for Turkish elderly. Its two-factor structure can be used as an informative instrument for epidemiological studies, reflecting two main dimensions of depression in the elderly.

AbstractAlthough there is mounting interest in the measurement of stresses in composite materials after fabrication and/or use, few measurements to date have not taken into account the three dimensional nature of the stress system in such materials. Most data give only the net stress, that is, the difference between principal stresses. A procedure for a more complete measurement (in a reasonable time) is developed here, including the separation of macrostresses and microstresses. If time does not permit a full investigation, measurements of the lattice parameters of the component phases provide a simple way to sample the hydrostatic component due to differential thermal contraction. The Barrett-Predecki method of adding filler is particularly promising for stress measurements in those composites whose component phases do not give appropriate diffraction peaks. This procedure could also be used for monitoring stresses during the useful life of such materials.

The reliability of schedule management directly affects the project cost and quality. Time limit is the most important part in schedule management. The determination of reasonable time limit can save cost for investors, and ensure project quality .Based on this characteristic, this paper adopts utility curve to carry out risk analysis for risk factors, eliminates unreliable construction period and carries on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation for the rest of the possible period. Then it got scientific and reasonable time limit. The method can determine the construction period credibly and is used to guide engineering practical.
