Dandy Walker Syndrome is hydrocephalus associated with a posterior fossa cyst and dysgenesis of the cerebellum.1 It is a rare abnormality of CNS with reported incidence of 1 in 25000 live births.2 This is a case of 5 year old male case with truncal attaxia, dysarthric, scanning speech, hypotonia, occular dysmetria, poor pursuit, poor fine motor control and poor balance and coordination. An early diagnosis resulted in early intervention in motor, speech, psychological and pre academics skills at child development centre. This case is successfully managed with conservative rehabilitation plan preparing him for normal school.

When adopting an ecological perspective of Early Intervention (EI), social support became a key concept for understanding families and ways of coping with a child who is at-risk or have been diagnosed with Special Educational Needs. Research findings demonstrate that social support, personal well-being, parenting interactional styles, and child development are both conceptually and empirically related, and that variation in child development is attributable to social support and well-being more so than to family Social Economic Status. Social supports play an essential role when planning intervention with young children and their families. This article will provide an evidence based review of the concept and its importance in Early Intervention and it will present a case study to illustrate and operationalize the ideas discussed in the article.***“Eu senti-me só”: a importância do apoio social para a intervenção Precoce***Adotando uma perspetiva ecológica de Intervenção Precoce (IP), o apoio social tornou-se um conceito-chave para entender as famílias e formas de lidar com uma criança em risco ou com Necessidades Educacionais Especiais. Os resultados da investigação demonstram que o apoio social, o bem-estar pessoal, os estilos de interação dos pais e o desenvolvimento infantil estão conceitualmente e empiricamente relacionados, e que as mudanças no desenvolvimento infantil se atribuem mais ao apoio social e ao bem-estar, da família do que ao seu estatuto sócio económico. Os apoios sociais desempenham um papel essencial no planeamento da intervenção com crianças pequenas e suas famílias. This study evaluates and compares the suitability for child–computer interaction (CCI, the branch within human–computer interaction focused on interactive computer systems for children) of two devices: a standard computer mouse and the ENLAZA interface, a head mouse that measures the user’s head posture using an inertial sensor. A multidirectional pointing task was used to assess the motor performance and the users’ ability to learn such a task. The evaluation was based on the interpretation of the metrics derived from Fitts’ law. Ten children aged between 6 and 8 participated in this study. Participants performed a series of pre- and post-training tests for both input devices. After the experiments, data were analyzed and statistically compared. The results show that Fitts’ law can be used to detect changes in the learning process and assess the level of psychomotor development (by comparing the performance of adults and children). In addition, meaningful differences between the fine motor control (hand) and the gross motor control (head) were found by comparing the results of the interaction using the two devices. These findings suggest that Fitts’ law metrics offer a reliable and objective way of measuring the progress of physical training or therapy.

At the turn of the 20th century, children's play came under new and heightened scrutiny by urban reformers. As conditions in US cities threatened traditional notions of order, reformers sought new ways to direct urban-social development. In this paper I explore playground reform as an institutional response that aimed to produce and promote ideal gender identities in children. Supervised summer playgrounds were established across the United States as a means of drawing children off the street and into a corrective environment. Drawing from literature published by the Playground Association of America and a case study of playground management in Cambridge, MA, I explore playground training as a means of constructing gender identities in and through public space. Playground reformers asserted, drawing from child development theory, that the child's body was a conduit through which ‘inner’ identity surfaced. The child's body became a site through which gender identities could be both monitored and produced, compelling reformers to locate playgrounds in public, visible settings. Reformers' conviction that exposing girls to public vision threatened their development motivated a series of spatial restrictions. Whereas boys were unambiguously displayed to public audiences, girls' playgrounds were organised to accommodate this fear. Playground reformers' shrewd spatial tactics exemplify the ways in which institutional authorities conceive of and deploy space toward the construction of identity.

Tests of kindergarten to Grade 3 students' ability to copy upper- and lower-case primary print letters showed that lower-case letters are more difficult to print. Within upper- and lower-case formats, the letters vary considerably in difficulty as a function of their composition and/or the degree of fine motor control required. Factor analyses, based upon separate intercorrelations for upper- and lower-case letters, produced 7 factors for each type of letter. Although some of the factors tended to contain letters with similar characteristics, no obvious rationale explaining the factor pattern could be developed.
