The study examines the influence of locus of control, gender and job cadre on Organisational Commitment and Job Satisfaction among Nigerian Insurance workers. The objectives of the research were to examine the influence of gender, job cadre and locus of control on Organisational Commitment and Job Satisfaction. To achieve these objectives, data were collected from 600 workers from six insurance companies using three standardized psychological instruments with appropriate psychometric properties. The instruments used are: Nowicki -Strickland Locus of Control Scale (N – SLCS), Organisational Commitment Scale (OCS), Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) and Biographical Information Questionnaire (BIQ). The participants consisted of 247 males and 353 females with age between 21 and 65 years. They were randomly selected from the six companies. The sample consisted of senior and junior workers evenly distributed across the companies. The workers responded to the three instruments and biographical questionnaire used for the study and their responses were subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS. Means and standard deviations were calculated to obtain descriptive results. One-way ANOVA andT-tests were carried out to obtain inferential results. The results showed that the variables under study correlated with each other significantly. In conclusion, there are no significant differences between male and female managers and job cadre (senior and junior managers) in most of the variables in the organisations under study. Based on these findings, recommendations were made on how to increase Nigerian workers’ organisational commitment and job satisfaction

Background Perceived gender-related differences in surgical skills could limit opportunities available for any aspiring surgeon. There should be more available literature and logical analysis of these observations. The objective of this study is to evaluate the microsurgical skills of male and female medical students using a standard scale in the laboratory. Methods This study included medical students enrolled in the Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital from 2002 to 2015 who were evaluated by a senior consultant for their microsurgical skills. A standard numeric scale was used to evaluate their suturing technique after basic microsurgical training. Differences in the scores between male and female medical students were evaluated using statistical analysis. Results A total of 578 medical students were included in the study. There were 393 males (68%) and 185 females (32%). Using statistical analysis, there is no significant difference in the distribution of scores (p-Value = 0.78) and mean scores (p-Value = 0.75) between the two groups. Conclusions This study shows that microsurgical skills of male and female medical students are similar. Equal opportunities in the eventual pursuit of the surgical specialties should be available regardless of gender.

To explore whether locus of control scores of South African university students show sex differences and differences in academic achievement, 73 subjects (46 women and 27 men) whose mean ages were 36.5 yr. for women and 35.0 yr. for men were given Rotter's Locus of Control scale. Scores students obtained on a final examination in an educational psychology course were recorded. A gender difference was statistically significant, with men scoring internally oriented and women scoring externally oriented. There was no significant difference in academic performance between internally and externally controlled subjects.

To study the effect of teaching decision-making to inmates in a maximum security facility on locus of control 19 adult male inmates who were incarcerated at a community correctional center were pre- and posttested on the Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale. In this preliminary study there was no statistically significant difference at pretest or posttest so teaching decision-making skills in group settings versus teaching in a group combined and one-to-one contact did not affect locus of control as measured. This personality trait appears stable over time and a more thorough means of intervention is required to effect change.

The number of violent incidents on women is increasing every year in Indonesia. Some women can survive through traumatic experiences, and it is related to their resilience. Locus of control (LoC) is known to contribute to resilience by enhancing individuals’ self- control and problem-solving behavior. This study aims to determine the role of LoC in trauma resilience among 134 young women (20 – 40 years old) who were exposed to violence (domestic, physical, and sexual) and a minimum of high school education. This study used a quantitative approach with the Locus of Control Scale (α = 0.732, 18 items) and the Trauma Resilience Scale (α = 0.961, 48 items). Two hypotheses are proved in this study: (1) external LoC significantly contributes to trauma resilience (p = .000, R2 = .139), (2) there is a significant difference between violence exposure (<.001), perpetrators (.005), and disclosure to others about their experience of violence (.009). We also found that no participants reported a dominant internal LoC, so future studies are advised to focus on women who were exposed to violence with a more dominant internal LoC.

This study examines whether there are differences in the tendency of gadget addiction in terms of gender in elementary school students. The research subjects were 60 elementary school students grade 4,5 and 6 who were selected using purposive sampling. . The data analysis technique used is independent sample t-test. Statistical analysis result with independent samples t-test showed that there was significant difference in the tendency of gadget addiction in terms of the sex of male and female students (t = 3,229, p = 0.002, p <0.05). This shows that the research hypothesis is accepted which means that there are differences in the tendency of gadget addiction in terms of gender. Men have an average tendency of gadget addiction tendencies that is higher at 51.53 compared to female students at 47.62.

Abstract This paper analyses a possible gendered manifestation of norms in interpreting. It focuses on the use of self-repair, a textual expression of the norm, by male and female interpreters. Two research questions are examined: (1) whether the extent to which self-repairs occur in interpreting is gendered and (2) whether gender influences the way in which the output is repaired using editing terms. Considering the literature on gender and norm-compliance, female interpreters are expected to produce more self-repairs and editing terms than male interpreters. The research is based on the 2008 subcorpus of EPICG with French source speeches and their English and Dutch interpretations. The interpreters’ self-repairs were manually identified and statistically compared. Regarding the first question, it appears that gender influences the use of self-repairs in interpreting. As for the second one, statistical analysis reveals language-based patterns: in the English booth, women use significantly more editing terms than men. The French/Dutch subcorpus yields no significant difference. However, women seem to also use apologies as editing terms.

The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control scale along with 12 belief statements on factors that affect pregnancy was distributed to 209 pregnant women, 74 smokers, 46 smokers who quit prior to or during their pregnancy, and 87 nonsmokers. Analysis of variance and post hoc Scheffé tests on each subscale showed a significant difference among the three groups of pregnant smokers and nonsmokers on the Chance subscale, however, the differences appeared to be of no practical significance. Only two of the belief statements were significantly different between the groups.
