Aim: – The most important task of the educational system is to prepare students to acquire knowledge and career and cognitive skills to enter the community. Therefore, identifying the factors leading to the students’ academic achievement is very important. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between socio economic status and academic achievement of secondary school students belonging to different educational zones of Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir State. Methods: – This descriptive analytical study was done on 120 students of secondary Schools in 2012-13 through random sampling. Socio economic status scale constructed and standardized by Rajbir Singh et al., and Previous Academic Progress Record from schools were used to collect data. Data were analyzed by using Mean, S.D, M.D and students t-test. Results: – Result proves it beyond any shadow of doubt that there is a significant difference in the academic achievement of high socioeconomic status of students in comparison to low socioeconomic status of students. Significant differences were found between the students with (high and low) and (high and middle) socioeconomic status. On the other hand insignificant difference was found between the students with middle and low socioeconomic status in respect to academic achievement.

<div><p><em>The present study aimed at the relationship between the socio-Economic Status and Academic Achievement among secondary school students of Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh, India. A number of investigations conducted so far in the field of Socio Economic Status (SES) indicated a significant relation between achievement and SES.  After independence the SES of secondary school students in both urban and rural areas have registered a remarkable change.  On account of phenomenal advancement in science and technology the conditions of the people have changed a lot.</em></p><p><em>The data were collected from 200 secondary school students by using the tools socio-economic status tool measures the dimensions of educational, economic, social, cultural and occupational determinants.  The academic achievement tool consists of the test items of mathematics, general science and social studies.  Later the data were analyzed with the statistical procedures like mean, standard deviations, critical ratios, Chi-square test and r-values.  The results were discussed according to the significant values.  Based on the results certain conclusions were drawn. Over all observation of the study some educational implications were given.</em></p></div>

Using drama as an awareness creation tool, this study examined the influence of gender, age, class, socio-economic status, parent’s level of education and religion on adolescents’ attitude towards schooling. A total of 300 (150 JSS and 150 SS2) students (males=153; females=147) randomly selected from six coeducational secondary schools in Ibadan constituted the sample for the study. The adopted Attitude toward Education Scale by Glassey (1945) and Socio-economic Status Scale by Salami (2015) were used to collect the data. The results indicated that positive significant relationship existed between the adolescents’ attitude towards schooling and gender, age, socioeconomic status, parent’s (father’s) level of education and religion but not with class which is negative. The results indicate the need to include the students’ parental and personal-social factors when counselling students through drama and performances that show students and parents’ negative attitude toward schooling.

Values give meaning and strength to a person’s character by occupying a center place in his life. Values are the bases on which the actions, reactions, emotions and judgments of an individual depend. The Study was designed to examine the Value patterns of Science and Arts students in relation to their Socio Economic Status and type of School. Participants were 200 adolescents of 10+2 grade of Science and Arts stream from Amritsar city. The findings of the study revealed that no significant differences exist in the six values of Science and Arts Students. There is no significant difference in value patterns of Science and Arts students belonging to High Socio Economics Status. Science and Arts Students belonging to low Socio Economic Status differ significantly on Aesthetic Values and Religious Values and no significant differences exist in the Value pattern of Science and Arts Senior Secondary School Students studying in Government and Private Schools.

The study aims to explore the relationship of study habits with socio-economic status and gender. The research was carried out on a sample of 224 students studying in class IX of Aligarh district. Standardized scales were used to collect the data which in turn was analyzed by applying Mean (M), Standard Deviation (SD), Product moment correlation (r), t-test and ANOVA. Findings revealed that significant difference exists in the study habits of students in relation to gender. Significant and positive relationship exists between study habits and Socio-economic status but interaction effect of gender and SES was not found on study habits. This study sought to investigate the influence of parental socio-economic status (SES) on higher academic aspiration among senior secondary school students in Cross River State of Nigeria with emphasis on Ogoja Education Zone. To do this, three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The research questions were based on three variables of parental educational status, occupation and material wealth. The research instrument was a 17 item researcher-made “Parental Socio-economic status and higher academic aspiration of senior secondary school students questionnaire”. It was built on a four-point modified Likert scale. Samples comprised of 600 senior secondary three (SS3) students at the rate of 30 per school from the five local government areas in the education zone. Data were analyzed using simple percentages. The result of research question one which sought to determine the influence of parental educational status on their children’s higher educational aspirations shows that 72.16% of the respondents affirmed that parental educational status has significantly high influence on their wards educational aspiration. Research Question two was on the influence of Parental occupation on their children’s academic aspiration. It had a positive response of 37.99% which shows negative influence. The finding on Research Question three shows that 62% of the respondents were positive about the influence of parental material wealth on their academic aspiration. Based on the above findings conclusion and recommendations were drawn.
