This paper examined the relationship of materialism, depression and compulsive buying among university students. Moreover, it aimed to see the role of demographic variables in the relationship between these variables. Material Value Scale (Richins & Dawson, 1992), Compulsive Buying Scale (O’Guinn & Faber, 1989) and the subscale of depression of DASS (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995) were used to measure materialism, compulsive buying and depression respectively. The sample comprised of 430 university students within the age range of 18 to 24 years (M = 21.55, S.D = 1.95) from five universities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A significant positive relationship between depression and materialism was found. A significant difference between males and females on materialism and depression was found with males scoring significantly higher on both as compared to females. However, no significant difference was found between males and females compulsive buying. There was a significant difference among adolescents and adults on materialism with adults scoring higher as compared to adolescents, while no significant differences were found on depression and compulsive buying.

Gardner’s (1983) Multiple Intelligences Theory (MIT) has been found to have profound implications in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) in that it provides a way for teachers to recognize learners’ individual cognitive and affective differences by providing favorable motivational conditions for learning. However, little investigation has focused on the domains of cognition and affect in a single study. Therefore, this study investigates two facets: the relationship of Multiple Intelligences (MIs) with listening among Iranian TEFL university students and the possible relationship between the type of intelligence the students fall into and their attitudes toward learning English. In this study, McKenzie’s (1999) MI Inventory was used to identify 60 participants’ preferred intelligences. The participants comprised an intact group randomly assigned to the experiment. A Likert-type questionnaire was employed to elicit data about participants’ levels of personality traits that accounted for their attitudes to language-learning. Also, the participants’ listening comprehension proficiency was measured using the listening section of a retired TOEFL test. Data analysis using Pearson correlation revealed no significant relationship between the score of listening and any of the MIs. Similarly, the results indicated no significant difference between MIs and attitudes.

Abstract Studies investigating the similarities and differences in traditional bullying and cyberbullying experiences have demonstrated considerable gender differences concerning its determinants. The aim of the present study was to provide further evidence for the differential role of determinants for males and females by investigating the moderating role of traditional bullying and anger rumination in the relationship of past cyberbullying victimization and recent cyberbullying perpetration in respect to gender. A total of 1500 Hungarian adolescents and adults (57.9% male, M age = 28.9 years, SD = 8.7) completed an online survey on bullying experiences. Results indicated that males were more likely than females to engage in cyberbullying when they had been previously bullied online. Furthermore, high anger rumination elevated the risk of perpetration among male cyberbullying victims, while repeated victimization in traditional bullying increased the risk of cyberbullying perpetration among females. These results underline the importance of considering gender differences in intervention efforts against bullying.

Romantic relationship dissolution (RRD) can be perceived as an upsetting or momentous event and the most stressful and unsettling events that one can encounter in life. The aim of this study to investigate the relationship between sexual involvement in a relationship and romantic relationship resolution and the role of resilience as mediators of this relationship. Two hundred ninety-three emerging young adults (ages 18 to 29) from Klang Valley have participated in this study. The present study used the Resilience Scale (RS), the Core Bereavement Items (CBI), and demographic information items. Obtained results indicated a significant difference in sexual involvement in a relationship on the level of reactions to romantic relationship dissolution. The sexual involvement in the relationship was positively and significantly correlated with romantic relationship dissolution. Specifically, sexual involvement was negatively correlated with resilience, which was, in turn, negatively associated with romantic relationship dissolution. Additionally, results also show that mediation effect for sexual involvement in resilience to romantic relationship resolution was significant. The practical implications for helping professionals were also discussed in this work.

The current study was designed to investigate the relationship of perceived physical attractiveness and sexual esteem among Pakistani women and men. Role of gender and marital status on the study variables was also explored. The sample consisted of 320 adults (130 men and 190 women) with age range of 18 to 35 years. Sample was taken from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire – Appearance Scale MBSRQ-AS (Cash, 2000) was used to measure perceived physical attractiveness. Sexual esteem was measured by the subscale of Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (Snell, 1998). The findings indicated that Appearance Evaluation, Appearance Orientation, and Body Area Satisfaction were positively correlated to sexual esteem, whereas overweight preoccupation was negatively correlated with sexual esteem. Gender differences on the variables indicated that appearance evaluation was higher among men as compared to females. The moderation analysis showed that the significant negative relationship between overweight preoccupation and sexual esteem in men only, whereas sexual esteem of women was not unaffected through all levels of overweight preoccupation. The study findings provided a better insight into the role played by perceived physical attractiveness and need of sexual esteem among both genders. Findings were discussed in cultural context. Further, implications of the study were considered and discussed.

Abstract Background to evaluate the distribution of lingual foramina (LF) and their correlation with demographic characteristics and mandible width in a series of patients subjected to cone-beam CT (CBCT). Methods CBCTs were reviewed to assess the number of all LF, midline and lateral LF. We also assessed the relationship of the number of lateral LF with gender and mandibular width using the Chi Square test. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results 300 patients (180 males; age range: 21-87years) were included. The highest frequency per patient was of 2 LF (97/300, 32.3%), followed by 3 (81/300, 27%) and 4 (53/300, 17.7%). No LF were observed in 2/300 patients (0.7%), while the highest number was of 8 LF in one patient. The highest frequency of midline LF per person was of 2 LF (57.3%, 172/300), while the highest number per person was 5 LF in one patient (0.3%). The highest frequency of midline LF located above and below the genial tubercle was of 1 in 197/300 patients (65.7%) and in 169/300 patients (56.3%), respectively. Concerning lateral LF, the highest frequencies were of 0 (113/300, 37.7%) and of 1 (112/300, 37.3%). We did not observe any significant difference of the number of midline and lateral LF based on gender (P = .438 and P = .195, respectively) or mandible width (P = .069 and P = .114, respectively). Conclusions We have shown the high variability of number and anatomic distribution of LF in an Italian group of patients subjected to CBCT without reporting any association with gender and mandible width.

The application of the principles of justice is restricted in romantic relationships, contributing to the acceptance of violence against women. The objective was to analyze whether the perception of university students about the scope of justice will be the element that justifies the acceptance of violence against women. 305 university students participated. The results showed that the most sexist people, who also believe that the world is a fair place, are the ones that restrict the scope of justice application the most, that is, they perceive marriage as being excluded from that scope. Therefore, this study adds important data in studies on the role of the social context in legitimizing social inequalities.

This study focused on the relationship of two dimensions of perfectionism (perfectionistic strivings, and perfectionistic concerns) and academic performance, with the role of academic resilience as mediator. Participants including 132 undergraduate students form age range 18 to 25, from first year to fifth year in their studies mainly from a Malaysian psychology undergraduate program were asked to fill questionnaires containing measures for perfectionism, academic resilience and academic performance. Although only partial mediations occurred, both hypotheses where academic resilience would mediate relationships between both dimensions of perfectionism and academic performance were supported. Findings suggested that other variables aside academic resilience could have played a role in predicting perfectionist’s academic performance. Findings also suggested interplay of academic performance acting as both protective factor and outcome of academic resilience.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between lifelong learning tendencies and self-efficacy perceptions of university students using their demographic characteristics (gender, grade, faculty, income and leisure time activities). The study was designed as a relational survey model. The study group was consisted of 470 students (1st and 4th grade) studying at different faculties of Bartın University during 2014-2015 academic year. “Scale for Determining Lifelong Learning Tendencies” (Coşkun, 2009) and “General Self-Efficacy Scale” (Jerusalem and Schwarzer, 1979) scales were used as data collection tools. According to results, students’ lifelong learning tendencies were high. When lifelong learning tendencies were examined in terms of the demographic variables of the study, significant differences were found in gender, father’s occupation and reading books and watching TV activities which are among leisure time activities. This significant difference was in favour of girls; those whose father was accountant, and those who read books and do not watch television. The results of the study also revealed that university students’ self-efficacy perceptions were high. When self-efficacy perceptions was examined in terms of the demographic variables of the study, significance was found in gender, faculty, going to cinema and not reading book, which are among leisure time activities. This significant difference was in favour of boys; those who studied in the School of Physical Education and Sport; and those who go to cinema and do not read book. A significant positive relationship was found between university students’ lifelong learning tendencies and their self-efficacy perceptions. ÖzetBu çalışmanın temel amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin demografik özellikleri (cinsiyet, sınıf, fakülte/yüksekokul, gelir düzeyi ve serbest zaman etkinlikleri) doğrultusunda yaşam boyu öğrenme eğilimleri ile özyeterlik algıları arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemektir. Araştırma ilişkisel bir tarama modelidir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2014-2015 akademik yılında Bartın Üniversitesi'nin farklı fakültelerinde/ yüksekokulunda lisans programlarına devam eden 1. ve 4. sınıf öğrencilerinden toplam 470 katılımcı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Yaşam Boyu Öğrenme Eğilimlerini Belirme Ölçeği (Coşkun, 2009) ile Genellenmiş Öz-yetkinlik Beklentisi Ölçeği (Jerusalem ve Schwarzer, 1979) kullanılmıştır.
