IntroductionThe prevalence of smoking in patients under methadone maintenance therapy is high (85–98%). Most of these patients tend to quit smoking, but only a few of them receive treatment or referred to quit smoking. Recent study on aripiprazole, has been shown to reduce smoking.AimsThe aim of this study was to evaluate aripiprazole on smoking in patients under methadone maintenance therapy.Material and methodThis study was a double-blind intervention study. Patients under Methadone maintenance therapy in 22 Bahman Hospital randomly divided into two intervention and control group. First with the FTQ questionnaire, nicotine dependency assessed in all patients. Then, 6-week aripiprazole administered to intervention group. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 21.ResultsThe age range of patients was 67–25 years. Two groups were matched in demographic characteristics. Finally, mean number of FTQ questionnaire in case group before intervention was 8.9 ± 1.4 and after intervention was 8.4 ± 1.6. This difference was statistically significant (P = 0.0007).ConclusionThe study results show the aripiprazole effect in reducing the desire to smoke in patients under methadone maintenance therapy. The overall level of dependency on nicotine on the basis of test FTQ has decreased. By choosing aripiprazole as adjunctive therapy to quit smoking, by reducing the tendency of patients to smoking, can decrease cardiovascular complications and other problems caused by smoking and we can reduce the mortality rate of these patients.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Background and Aims: Given the success of group psychotherapy as well as drug therapies to improve drug-dependent patients, it is increasingly necessary to compare different interventions to select the most effective way to reduce the problems of methadone maintenance therapists. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of existential group therapy with cognitive-behavioral group therapy on increasing the life satisfaction of addicted people under methadone maintenance therapy. Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted based on the pretest-posttest method with a control group. The study population included addicted males who underwent methadone maintenance treatment at Qazvin Addiction Treatment and Injury Clinics in 2019, Qazvin, Iran. The participants (n=90) were randomly selected and divided into experimental (existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy) and control groups. Subsequently, the experimental groups participated in 10 sessions of 120-min per week. The data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 22) through a repeated-measures ANOVA. Results: The results showed the improvement of life satisfaction in the existential and cognitive-behavioral therapy groups (P<0.001); however, the control group showed no significant difference in pretest, posttest, and follow-up. Furthermore, the results indicated no significant difference between cognitive-behavioral and existential therapy groups in terms of life satisfaction (P>0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that both cognitive-behavioral and existential therapies are effective in increasing the life satisfaction of addicted patients under methadone maintenance therapy; however, no significant difference was observed between the two experimental groups regarding the increasing level of satisfaction.

Given the increasing diversity of students academically and culturally, educators are being called upon to accommodate students' diverse learning requirements through differentiated instruction strategies. In Bhutan, the Ministry of Education recently mandated the implementation of a differentiated instruction strategy in the K-12 curriculum. From this perspective, this study attempted to ascertain the effect of differentiated strategies on grade eleven mathematics students within the framework of the pre_test and post_test quasi-experimental research method. 64 grade eleven students participated in this study. The concept of derivative was taught using a differentiated instruction strategy for the experimental group (N=32) while a conventional one-size fits-all strategy was used for teaching the control group (N=32). A Conceptual Understanding Test on the Derivative (CUTD) was administered as pretest and posttest groups to examine the differences in their learning achievements. A t-test analysis of the pretests indicated no significant differences, indicating that the experimental and control groups' learning abilities on the concept of the derivative were roughly comparable. However, a statistically significant difference in favour of the experimental group over the control group was discovered in the post test analysis. It was recommended that Mathematics teachers and educators should embrace the use of differentiated instruction while teaching and learning derivative. The researchers also recommended that differentiated education be used over a prolonged period of time and with a larger sample size.
