The Jinchang gold–copper deposit is located in Eastern Heilongjiang Province,Northeastern China. The orebody comprises primarily hydrothermal breccias, quartz veins, anddisseminated ores within granite, diorite, and granodiorite. Three paragenetic stages are identified:early quartz–pyrite–arsenopyrite (Stage 1), quartz–pyrite–chalcopyrite (Stage 2), and latequartz–pyrite–galena–sphalerite (Stage 3). Gold was deposited during all three stages and Stage 1was the major gold-producing stage. Copper is associated with the mineralization but has loweconomic value. Fluid inclusions (FIs) within the deposit are liquid-rich aqueous, vapor-rich aqueous,and daughter-mineral-bearing types. Microthermometric data for the FIs reveal decreasinghomogenization temperatures (Th) and salinities of the ore-forming fluids over time. The Th forStages 1–3 of the mineralization are 421–479, 363–408, and 296–347 °C, respectively. Stage 1 fluidsin vapor-rich and daughter-mineral-bearing inclusions have salinities of 5.7–8.7 and 49.8–54.4 wt%NaCl equivalent, respectively. Stage 2 fluids in vapor-rich, liquid-rich, and daughter-mineral-bearinginclusions have salinities of 1.2–5.4, 9.5–16.0, and 43.3–48.3 wt% NaCl, respectively. Stage 3 fluids inliquid-rich and daughter-mineral-bearing inclusions have salinities of 7.9–12.6 and 38.3–42.0 wt% NaClequivalent, respectively. The estimated trapping pressures are 160–220 bar, corresponding toan entrapment depth of 1.6–1.2 km in the paleo-water table. Oxygen and hydrogen isotope data(δ18OV-SMOW = 8.6‰ to 11.4‰; δDV-SMOW = −92.2‰ to −72.1‰) suggest that the ore-forming fluidswere derived from magmatic fluids during the early stages of mineralization and subsequentlyincorporated meteoric water during the late stages. The sulfide minerals have δ34SVCDT values of0.2‰–3.5‰, suggesting that the sulfur has a magmatic origin. The Jinchang deposit is a typicalgold-rich gold–copper porphyry deposit.

Rodents constitute the largest and most successful group of mammals worldwide. Brown rats (Rattus norvegicus) are one of the most common rodent species, and they serve as intermediate hosts of Hydatigera taeniaeformis. Although there have been a few studies reporting on the presence of the larval form of H. taeniaeformis (strobilocercus fasciolaris) in brown rats worldwide, little information is available on the genetic characterization of this parasite, with no molecular data from China. Therefore, from April 2014 to March 2016, this study was carried out to understand the prevalence and genetic characters of strobilocercus fasciolaris in brown rats captured in Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China. The livers of brown rats were collected and examined for the presence of cysts. Each cyst was identified based on morphological observation: the larvae with the naked eye and the scolexes under a microscope. The results were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (nad4) genes. At the investigated sites, 11.8% (13/110) of the brown rats were infected with strobilocercus fasciolaris. Based on sequence analysis, there were 10 and six haplotypes regarding the cox1 and the nad4 loci, with 24 and 42 polymorphic sites, respectively (degree of intraspecific variation: 0.3%–4.4% and 0.6%–4.7%, respectively). Twelve nucleotide sequences (six of the 10 at the cox1 locus and all six at the nad4 locus) have not previously been described. Base differences in three of the six novel cox1 gene sequences and five of the six novel nad4 gene sequences caused amino acid changes. Phylogenetic analyses of the cox1 and nad4 gene sequences based on neighbor-joining and Bayesian inference trees indicated that all the strobilocercus fasciolaris isolates belonged to Hydatigera taeniaeformis sensu stricto (s.s.). This is the first report on the genetic characterization of strobilocercus fasciolaris in brown rats in China. The findings of novel cox1 and nad4 nucleotide and amino acid sequences may reflect the region-specific genetic characterization of the parasite. The data will be useful to explore the biological and epidemiological significance of the intraspecific variation within H. taeniaeformis s.s.

Despite the increasing number of exceptional feathered fossils discovered in the Late Jurassic and Cretaceous of northeastern China, representatives of Ornithurae, a clade that includes comparatively-close relatives of crown clade Aves (extant birds) and that clade, are still comparatively rare. Here, we report a new ornithurine speciesChangzuiornis ahgmifrom the Early Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation. The new species shows an extremely elongate rostrum so far unknown in basal ornithurines and changes our understanding of the evolution of aspects of extant avian ecology and cranial evolution. Most of this elongate rostrum inChangzuiornis ahgmiis made up of maxilla, a characteristic not present in the avian crown clade in which most of the rostrum and nearly the entire facial margin is made up by premaxilla. The only other avialans known to exhibit an elongate rostrum with the facial margin comprised primarily of maxilla are derived ornithurines previously placed phylogenetically as among the closest outgroups to the avian crown clade as well as one derived enantiornithine clade. We find that, consistent with a proposed developmental shift in cranial ontogeny late in avialan evolution, that this elongate rostrum is achieved through elongation of the maxilla while the premaxilla remains only a small part of rostral length. Thus, only in Late Cretaceous ornithurine taxa does the premaxilla begin to play a larger role. The rostral and postcranial proportions ofChangzuiornissuggest an ecology not previously reported in Ornithurae; the only other species with an elongate rostrum are two marine Late Cretacous taxa interpreted as showing a derived picivorous diet.

A total of 372 adult Ixodes persulcatus ticks were collected from vegetation in a forest area of Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China, where Lyme disease is known to be endemic. The ticks were examined for the presence of granulocytic ehrlichiae by heminested PCR with primers derived from the 16S rRNA gene. Of 310 ticks obtained from the Dahe forestry farm, two pools (each containing 5 ticks) were found positive, with a minimum infection rate of 0.6%. Ehrlichial DNA was also detected in one female (1.6%) of 62 ticks collected from the Yulin forestry farm. The overall minimum infection rate of the 372 I. persulcatus adults was 0.8%. The nucleotide sequences of 919-bp PCR products from the three positive tick specimens were identical to each other and very closely related to the members of the Ehrlichia phagocytophila genogroup. This is the first identification of granulocytic ehrlichiae in ticks in Asia and the first report of infection in I. persulcatusanywhere.

Lindtneria asiae-orientalis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Heilongjiang Province, northeastern China. This fungus is characterized by buff-yellow to orange-yellow poroid hymenophores, septate generative hyphae with or without clamps, and relatively small ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid basidiospores (5.8–7 × 4.7–5.2 µm). Phylogenetic analyses based on three rDNA gene regions (ITS, nLSU and tef1-α) support Lindtneria asiae-orientalis as a distinct species within the family Stephanosporaceae.

The Campterophlebiidae is the largest family of fossil damsel-dragonflies, containing more than 60 species described from Lower Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous strata of Europe and Asia. This group is especially diverse in the Middle–Late Jurassic strata in Inner Mongolia, northeastern China, with some very large species (Zhang et al., 2006, 2008, 2013; Nel et al., 2007, 2008, 2009; Petrulevičius et al., 2011; Li et al., 2013; Zhang et al., 2013; Zheng et al., 2016, 2017). Thus it is surprising that we found a new representative of these damsel-dragonflies, belonging to a group of genera characterized by a very particular shape of the forewing cubito-anal area. This fossil has a unique shape of the forewing median vein, allowing its attribution to a new genus and species. It increases our knowledge about the palaeobiodiversity of this impressive group of Odonata.
