The main purpose of the present paper is to describe what the author believes to be a novel method of investigating the micro-structure of metals, and to give some account of preliminary results obtained by its aid. The method was devised in order to throw further light on the true nature of slip-bands, and the preliminary results relate mainly to this question. The investigation described in this paper is thus a further development of researches carried out in the first place by Professor J. A. Ewing, F. R. S. and the author jointly (“The Crystalline Structure of Metals,” Bakerian Lecture, 1899), and subsequently by the present author alone (“The Plastic Yielding of Iron and Steel.”) In the course of correspondence on the latter paper, M. F. Osmond drew the attention of the author to certain experimental facts concerning the behaviour of slip-bands under oblique illumination, which had formerly escaped attention.

This paper deals with the presentation of the new centering – leveling device developed in Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Precision angle measuring systems are always combined of many mechanisms and devices which influence angle measurement accuracy. Therefore, every one of them has to be investigated separately. This device can be used as a separate device to perform a slight movement of measured object or it can be used as a part of mechatronic angle measuring system. This paper presents preliminary results of centering – leveling device minimum pitch determination and analysis of further development of this device as a part of mechatronic angle measuring system.

In the context of the widespread introduction of a tax on the self-employed in Russia, there is a need for a conceptual understanding of its role in the economic activity of citizens and the development of regions. In this regard, the article considers the results of its introduction in 2019 and the prospects for further development up to 2029. The article reviews the main aspects of the functioning of the new tax regime in relation to the professional income of the self-employed population in the Russian Federation, which were introduced by Federal Law No. 422-FZ dated on November 27, 2018 in a number of regions of the country. The paper explains the main characteristics of the tax and the procedure for its application. The study summarizes preliminary results of the functioning of the new special tax regime under the experimental conditions.

A technique is described for measuring various angles used in orthodontic cephalometry without the use of radiography. This new method utilizes the properties of polarized light to transfer the data required from the patient to the apparatus, where it is stored and displayed electronically. Some preliminary results indicate that the method is potentially of sufficient accuracy to merit further development.

Abstract A simple theory of zone electrophoresis in open-tubular capillaries is developed. According to this theory, to achieve the highest resolution of zones, tubes with as small an inside diameter as possible should be used in combination with as high an applied voltage as feasible. To test this approach, we performed electrophoresis in glass capillaries with an internal diameter of 75 micron and a length of 100 cm. A special fluorescence detector was used to detect fluorescent zones while they migrated inside the capillary. With the application of 30 kV potentials to this system, rapid and efficient separations of amino acids, peptides, and urinary amines were demonstrated. In all cases fluorescent derivatives were necessary for detection. Preliminary results are encouraging, and with further development of sensitive detection devices, applications in clinical analyses may be feasible.
