The Internet should be understood as the first instance of a global communication system. That system, in turn, is displacing a national system of communications which came into existence at the end of the nineteenth century as a result of the railroad and telegraph, and was “perfected” in subsequent innovations through television in the network era. Such transformations involve not only technical change but the complex alteration of physical, symbolic, and media ecologies which together will determine the impact of the medium.

In terms of the current complicated socio-cultural and economic situations in the global communication system, achieving international cooperation becomes a challenge for Russia. A lawyer carries out legal regulations of interstate disputes with peaceful measures in the process of foreign language professional communications. One of the most important factors of successful international activity in the legal sphere is to master lawyer's intercultural communicative competence (ICC), as knowledge of foreign linguocultural features of verbal and non-verbal lawyers' behavior contributes to mutual understandings in professional interactions. The structure and content of a lawyers' ICC indicates its integrative nature, which enabled the authors to recognize an ESP approach in the intercultural context as a modern and perspective variant of integrated foreign language teaching for future law bachelors. This study offers methodological recommendations to implement an ESP model aimed at the development of lawyer's intercultural communicative competence.

The relationship between a complex technological process and an emerging intellectual concept may, at first sight, seem tenuous. However, we may discover a connection if we consider that they are both global issues. Sustainability in relation to environmental issues involves all peoples in all places; it cannot be separated into a concept applicable for individual nation states, or specific bio-regions. Moreover, the concept of sustainability is directly related to communities and their social and economic fabric. We cannot act and do things in isolation: communication is essential. The Internet is a global communication system capable of influencing attitudes in many important areas, not least environmental concerns. This global communication system is currently fostering a special kind of ‘virtual’ community where discussion and transfer of information takes place on a wide variety of issues. Whether such a ‘digital’ community is a suitable focus for the promotion of the concept of environmental sustainability is the theme of this chapter.
