A grid adaptation procedure suitable for use during unsteady flow computations is described. Transfinite interpolation is used to generate structured grids for the computation of steady and unsteady Euler flows past aerofoils. This technique is well suited to unsteady flows, since instantaneous grid positions and speeds required by the flow solver are available directly from the algebraic mapping. A different approach to grid adaptation is described, wherein adaptation is performed by redistributing the interpolation parameters, instead of the physical grid positions. This results in the adapted grid positions, and hence speeds, still being available algebraically. Grid adaptation during an unsteady computation is performed continuously by imposing an ‘adaptation velocity’ on grid points, thereby applying the adaptation over several time steps and avoiding the interpolation of the solution from one grid to another, which is associated with instantaneous adaptation. For both steady and unsteady flows the adapted grid technique is shown to produce sharper shock resolution for a very small increase in CPU (central processing unit) requirements.

The choice of the adaptive gain is important to the performance of LMS-based adaptive filters. Depending on application areas, the realization structure of the filters is also important. This letter presents an adaptive lattice algorithm which adjusts the adaptive gain of LMS using fuzzy if-then rules determined by matching input and output variables during adaptation procedure. In each lattice filter stage, this filter adjusts the adaptive gain as the output of the fuzzy logic which has two input variables, normalized squared forward prediction error and one step previous adaptive gain. The proposed algorithm is applied to echo canceling problem of long distance communication channel. The simulation results are compared with NLMS on TDL and lattice structures.

In this paper, we present a dynamically adaptive wavelet method for solving Schrodinger equation on one-dimensional, two-dimensional and on the sphere. Solving one-dimensional and two-dimensional Schrodinger equations are based on Daubechies wavelet with finite difference method on an arbitrary grid, and for spherical Schrodinger equation is based on spherical wavelet over an optimal spherical geodesic grid. The method is applied to the solution of Schrodinger equation for computational efficiency and achieve accuracy with controlling spatial grid adaptation — high resolution computations are performed only in regions where a solution varies greatly (i.e., near steep gradients, or near-singularities) and a much coarser grid where the solution varies slowly. Thereupon the dynamic adaptive wavelet method is useful to analyze local structure of solution with very less number of computational cost than any other methods. The prowess and computational efficiency of the adaptive wavelet method is demonstrated for the solution of Schrodinger equation on one-dimensional, two-dimensional and on the sphere.
