We are all stakeholders in the development of better practices to address the challenges presented by the opportunities and responsibilities that exist in our industry. Navigating the path between uncertainty and positive project outcomes can hopefully help to generate informed decisions as well as a thorough consideration of all the relevant risks. Many risk management roles have, however, tended to develop into compliance-style functions. This paper tackles the inconsistency of risk management application via a new approach, encompassing three elements: taking a new look at some fundamental concepts; making subsequent adaptations to some familiar tools; and applying these ideas to oil and gas investment projects. At the conclusion of this paper, project managers, sponsors and boards should have a new appreciation for how the industry might further improve its performance in tackling uncertainty on complex project investment decisions.

In the deployable mechanism for a conventional truss antenna, the nodes cannot be adjusted to be uniform in attitude. To solve this problem, a method of adding constraint chains is proposed based on the reciprocal screw theory. By performing type synthesis of the deployable mechanisms for the truss antenna, a novel deployable mechanism is developed that not only enables complete folding and unfolding but also allows the attitude of the nodes to be made uniform. First, according to the unit division of the antenna reflection surface and the characteristic motions of the nodes, constraint chains that can be added between two adjacent nodes are synthesized based on the reciprocal screw theory. Second, to improve the overall rigidity of the mechanism, a series of basic developable unit mechanisms is obtained by adding virtual constraint chains, again based on the reciprocal screw theory. Next, a method of dividing the minimum combination unit of the curved-surface antenna mechanism is proposed. The design of the minimum combination unit mechanism is optimized, such that the attitude of all nodes in the final folded state can be made consistent. Finally, the feasibility of the optimized minimum combination unit mechanism is verified by simulation analysis. The proposed method for type synthesis provides a new approach to the design of deployable mechanisms for truss antennas, and novel deployable mechanisms for the curved-surface truss antenna with better performance are obtained.

Performance degradation feature extraction is the basis of degradation condition recognition and remaining service life prediction. In this paper, morphological corrosion operator is introduced into mathematical morphological particle analysis (abbreviated as MMP), proposing a new analytical method named generalized mathematical morphological particle analysis (abbreviated as GMMP). On this basis, a new approach for degradation feature extraction based on generalized pattern spectrum entropy (abbreviated as GPSE) is proposed taking GMMP and information entropy as the theoretical foundation. In this approach, GPSE is calculated as degradation feature parameter in describing performance degradation degree of machinery equipment. Simulation analysis is processed, and the result shows that the value of GPSE will increase correspondingly along with the deepening of the degradation degree and the relevance between GPSE and degradation degree is stable. The effectiveness and practicality of the approach is tested through rolling bearing whole lifetime vibrating data. Rolling bearing fatigue life enhancement testing was carried out in Hangzhou Bearing Test & Research Center, getting the whole lifetime data which is able to cover each degradation condition from normal to invalidation. The approach is applied into analysis of rolling bearing data and the results verify its validity and feasibility.

We propose a new approach, based on investment data, to determine firms’ return exposure to investment-specific technology (IST) shocks. When applied to U.S. data, we find that, in contrast to the pattern estimated from empirical IST proxies, value firms have higher exposure to IST shocks than growth firms. When applied to simulated data from existing theoretical models, our approach reveals that existing empirical findings may result from measurement errors in the IST proxies. Importantly, our simulation analysis uncovers the key role played by investment data in determining the economic mechanism through which IST shocks affect cross-sectional asset prices.

Although there has been a tremendous rise in places being connected through the Internet or any other network protocol, there still lie areas, which remain out of reach due to various reasons. For all such places the answer is a Delay Tolerant Network (DTN). A DTN is such a network where there is no fixed or predefined route for messages and no such guarantee whatsoever of all messages being correctly routed. DTN can be considered as a superset of networks wherein other networks such as adhoc, mobile, vehicular etc. form the subset. Therefore routing in DTN is a very chancy affair where one has to maximize on the present network scenarios to get any fruitful result other than depending on past information. Also protocols here need to be less complex and not increase the already high nodal overhead. In this paper we propose a new approach, the Fibonary Spray and Wait, which does exactly this. It forwards copies of a message in a modified Binary Spray and Wait manner so that it performs well even in non independent and identically distributed node structure. We have supported our statements with mathematical as well as simulation analysis.

Under conditions of scarce resources the firm is facing challenge of selection most effective investment projects. In order to make reasonable managerial decisions comprehensive analysis is needed that will show value for investor as well as influence of investments on future development and competitive performance of the firm. The article provides an overview of existing methods of evaluating the effectiveness of investment projects, that allowed to indicate and classify their main advantages and disadvantages. Author presents new approach to evaluation of investment projects effectiveness by the criteria of quality of the industrial system, which forms the basis of investment project. It is shown that its usage helps to essentially lower disadvantages of existing methods.
