Comparing graph databases with traditional,e.g., relational databases, some important database features are often missing there. Particularly, a graph database schema including integrity constraints is mostly not explicitly defined, also a conceptual modelling is not used. It is hard to check a consistency of the graph database, because almost no integrity constraints are defined or only their very simple representatives can be specified. In the paper, we discuss these issues and present current possibilities and challenges in graph database modelling. We focus also on integrity constraints modelling and propose functional dependencies between entity types, which reminds modelling functional dependencies known from relational databases. We show a number of examples of often cited GDBMSs and their approach to database schemas and ICs specification. Also a conceptual level of a graph database design is considered. We propose a sufficient conceptual model based on a binary variant of the ER model and show its relationship to a graph database model, i.e. a mapping conceptual schemas to database schemas. Abstract Graph representations provide an elegant solution to capture and analyze complex molecular mechanisms in the cell. Co-expression networks are undirected graph representations of transcriptional co-behavior indicating (co-)regulations, functional modules or even physical interactions between the corresponding gene products. The growing avalanche of available RNA sequencing (RNAseq) data fuels the construction of such networks, which are usually stored in relational databases like most other biological data. Inferring linkage by recursive multiple-join statements, however, is computationally expensive and complex to design in relational databases. In contrast, graph databases store and represent complex interconnected data as nodes, edges and properties, making it fast and intuitive to query and analyze relationships. While graph-based database technologies are on their way from a fringe domain to going mainstream, there are only a few studies reporting their application to biological data. We used the graph database management system Neo4j to store and analyze co-expression networks derived from RNAseq data from The Cancer Genome Atlas. Comparing co-expression in tumors versus healthy tissues in six cancer types revealed significant perturbation tracing back to erroneous or rewired gene regulation. Applying centrality, community detection and pathfinding graph algorithms uncovered the destruction or creation of central nodes, modules and relationships in co-expression networks of tumors. Given the speed, accuracy and straightforwardness of managing these densely connected networks, we conclude that graph databases are ready for entering the arena of biological data.

Objective: To explore the correlation of procalcitonin (PCT) and gelsolin (GSN) with the prognosis of urosepsis patients. Method: The data of 71 urosepsis patients from March 2015 to April 2019 who were admitted to and treated in Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University were analyzed and compared with those of 92 healthy persons. Serum PCT and plasma GSN levels at different times after treatment were detected. According to prognosis, patients were classified into the good prognosis group or the poor prognosis group. The serum PCT and plasma GSN levels of both groups were compared. Result: The serum PCT level of the urosepsis group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days was obviously higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The plasma GSN levels of the urosepsis group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days were obviously lower than those of the control group (P<0.05).The serum PCT level of the poor prognosis group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days was obviously higher than that of the good prognosis group (P<0.05). The plasma GSN level of the poor prognosis group on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th days was obviously lower than that of the good prognosis group (P<0.05). PCT was an independent risk factor influencing the prognosis of urosepsis patients and that GSN was a protective factor (P<0.05). Conclusion: The serum PCT and plasma GSN levels can accurately predict the severity and prognosis of urosepsis patients and reflect the disease state of early urosepsis patients. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, highlighted and compounded problems while posing new challenges for the pregnant population. Although individual organizations have provided disparate information, guidance, and updates on managing the pregnant population during the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to develop a collective model that highlights all the best practices needed to protect the pregnant population during the pandemic. To establish a standard for ensuring safety during the pandemic, we present a framework that describes best practices for the management of the pregnant population during the ongoing COVID-19pandemic.   Copyright © 2021 Dongarwar, et al. Sigmoid volvulus (SV) recurrence more than 10 times is an extremely rare clinical entity and spontaneous detorsion is a rare outcome of SV. In this paper, we report a case with 19 previous SV attacks, in last of which spontaneous detorsion occurred. Objective: Domains of professionalism are well-described in the literature. Examining the elements of Professionalism in the local context have received less attention from education experts. The aim of the study was to explore the construct of professionalism as perceived by the faculty that fitted the Pakistani context identified in the ABIM framework of professionalism. Methods: This qualitative ethnographic research was conducted involving nine participants from Islamic International Medical College in Riphah University Islamabad. A four hours Focus Group Discussion was undertaken to explore the views of the faculty. The focus group session was audiotaped, transcribed and technique of triangulation was employed. Shortened meaningful unit (SMU) were identified from the transcribed data and analyzed to make codes for themes for the behaviors. Forty-six meaningful units were categorized and codes were identified. The themes were identified under the domains of the ABIM frameworks for the Pakistani context. Results: The participants listed 2-8 elements for each domain of the framework describing the professional conduct which lead to 140 shortened meaningful units. These were organized into 46 higher order codes. Conclusions: The study concludes that that ABIM framework can be used to build consensus regarding the domains of professionalism. NoSQL graph databases have been introduced in recent years for dealing with large collections of graph-based data. Scientific data and social networks are among the best examples of the dramatic increase of the use of such structures. NoSQL repositories allow the management of large amounts of data in order to store and query them. Such data are not structured with a predefined schema as relational databases could be. They are rather composed by nodes and relationships of a certain type. For instance, a node can represent a Person and a relationship Friendship. Retrieving the structure of the graph database is thus of great help to users, for example when they must know how to query the data or to identify relevant data sources for recommender systems. For this reason, this paper introduces methods to retrieve structural summaries. Such structural summaries are extracted at different levels of information from the NoSQL graph database. The expression of the mining queries is facilitated by the use of two frame-works: Fuzzy4S allowing to define fuzzy operators and operations with Scala; Cypherf allowing the use of fuzzy operators and operations in the declarative queries over NoSQL graph databases. We show that extracting such summaries can be impossible with the NoSQL query engines because of the data volume and the complexity of the task of automatic knowledge extraction. A novel method based on in memory architectures is thus introduced. This paper provides the definitions of the summaries with the methods to automatically extract them from NoSQL graph databases only and with the help of in-memory architectures. The benefit of our proposition is demonstrated by experimental results.

In this unprecedented situation of COVID-19 era, the educational institutions have to attune not only the teaching strategies but also the assessment. Similarly, just as COVID precautions have become the “new normal” practice, hence implementation changes during face-to-face examinations may become standard practice in the Post- COVID era. The Objective structured clinical exams (OSCEs) which usually require a face-to-face assessment of skills, posed a special challenge to health professionals in COVID-19. This commentary paper is written on shared experiences of the examination cell principal resource faculty for OSCE and exam coordinators.
