A new generation of children are learning the importance of democratic values at a level which makes sense to them. Appropriate ‘democratic values’ for South Africa are set out in the Constitution, and the national curriculum aims to equip all learners with the knowledge and skills necessary for meaningful participation in society. In many schools, these values – responsibility, respect and the freedom of self-expression – are merely posted on the walls of classrooms, but are not integrated into the subject content. This article proposes that teachers need to determine children’s perceptions of the values in question, and these should be the starting point for teaching democratic values. Young children need to understand and experience values in the classroom, suitable to the development of their moral reasoning. To concretise concepts of values, we used the ‘pledge tree’ activity in an intervention, in which 9-year-old children wrote their values on paper ‘leaves’ which they then posted on a huge polystyrene tree. The paper reports on this experience as a research investigation, capturing children’s ideas.

Based on the observation in MTs Negeri Barambai Barito Kuala, integrating education character into democracy topic in any kinds of life is not developed and implimented maximally. Because there is no integrated learning design and teacher’s capability to inovate in learning, this research has the objective to create design of education character integrated into citizen  education for the topic ‘democracy’ in any kinds of life for eighth class. This research used the qualitative approach by getting the data descriptively whether in written or behavior observed. The step used in this research was adopted from the Suheri’s research design that follows the steps of Broug’s and Gall’s research. This research is also based on the steps as guide form Direktorat Pendidikan SMP Kemdikbud 2010 in integrating character education into citizen education. The research result is a model of integrated design of character education into citizen education.  Key words: Integrated Design, Character Education, Citizenship Education, and Democracy

Recurrent training of cabin crew should include theoretical and practical instruction on safety as well as crew resource management (CRM) issues. The endeavors of Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. and Swiss Aviation Training Ltd. to integrate CRM and safety aspects into a single training module were evaluated. The objective of the integration was to make CRM more tangible and ease acquisition of competencies and transfer of CRM training content to practice by showing its relevance in relation to safety tasks. It was of interest whether the integrated design would be mirrored in a more favorable perception by the trainees as measured with a questionnaire. Participants reacted more positively to the integrated training than to stand-alone CRM training, although the integrated training was judged as being slightly more difficult and less oriented toward instructional design principles. In a range of forced-choice questions, the majority of participants opted for an integrated training format because it was seen as livelier and more interesting and also more practically relevant. For the forthcoming training cycle, a better alignment of training with instructional principles and an even higher degree of training integration by using simulator scenarios are striven for.
