A space-time analysis of American visceral leishmaniasis (AVL) in humans in the city of Bauru, São Paulo State, Brazil was carried out based on 239 cases diagnosed between June 2003 and October 2008. Spatial analysis of the disease showed that cases occurred especially in the city's urban areas. AVL annual incidence rates were calculated, demonstrating that the highest rate occurred in 2006 (19.55/100,000 inhabitants). This finding was confirmed by the time series analysis, which also showed a positive tendency over the period analyzed. The present study allows us to conclude that the disease was clustered in the Southwest side of the city in 2006, suggesting that this area may require special attention with regard to control and prevention measures.

Resumen: La arquitectura ecléctica se destacó en Brasil, en ciudades del interior paulista, debido a la presencia del café y la riqueza generada por sus plantaciones. Sin embargo, Bauru, no presentó una arquitectura ecléctica expresiva, pero posee, aún hoy, un número significativo de construcciones denominadas bungalow, que obedecían a determinados patrones arquitectónicos, formales, técnicos y constructivos, destinados a la clase media. Incluso, ante su cantidad significativa, todavía es poco estudiado por los expertos. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo distinguir esa vivienda como elemento importante en el desarrollo de la arquitectura, reconociéndola como parte del contexto histórico de la ciudad. ___Palabras clave: Bungalós, vivienda, Bauru. ___Abstract: The eclectic architecture stood out in cities of the countryside of São Paulo state in Brazil due to the presence of the coffee and the wealth generated by its plantations.  Although Bauru city did not show an expressive eclectic architecture, it still has until nowadays a significant number of buildings called bungalows, which followed certain architectural, formal, technical and constructive standards for the middle class. Despite its significant amount in the city, it is not well studied by specialists yet. Thus, this work aims to highlight this housing as an important element for the development of architecture, recognizing it as part of the historical context of the city. ___Keywords: Bungalow, housing, Bauru. ___Resumo: A arquitetura eclética destacou-se, no Brasil, em cidades do interior paulista, devido à presença do café e à riqueza gerada por suas plantações. ESTATÍSTICA MULTIVARIADA E ANÁLISE DE CONTRASTES ORTOGONAIS APLICADAS EM VARIÁVEIS DIMENSIONAIS DE BACIAS HIDROGRÁFICAS.  BRUNA SOARES XAVIER DE BARROS1; ZACARIAS XAVIER DE BARROS2 E RONALDO ALBERTO POLLO3. 1 Pós Doutoranda em Agronomia, Energia na Agricultura, FCA, UNESP, Botucatu, SP.2 Professor Titular, Dep. de Engenharia Rural, FCA, UNESP, Botucatu, SP.3 Doutorando em Agronomia, Energia na Agricultura, FCA, UNESP, Botucatu,SP.  1 RESUMO No presente estudo aplicou-se estatística multivariada e análise de contrastes ortogonais entre médias (teste “t”) a variáveis dimensionais de bacias hidrográficas de terceira ordem de ramificação, obtidas por imagens aéreas não orbitais, pertencentes ao município de Itobi-SP, com objetivo de agrupar bacias segundo graus de similaridade, bem como detectar a representabilidade da distribuição espacial dos agrupamentos e através do teste “t” verificar os contrastes ortogonais entre os solos envolvidos em relação ao Mapa Pedológico do Estado de São Paulo de 1999. Foram utilizadas fotografias aéreas verticais, escala nominal aproximada 1:30000; cartas planialtimétricas, escala 1:50000 (IBGE-1973), como base cartográfica e o mapa de solos do estado de São Paulo. Neste trabalho foram estudadas 16 bacias hidrográficas, distribuídas por todo o município, o qual apresenta dois solos predominantes, quais sejam: Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo (PVA) e Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (LVA). As variáveis dimensionais, submetidas à análise de agrupamento, discriminaram 60% das bacias consideradas para a unidade de solo PVA e 50% das bacias correspondentes ao LVA.  Palavras-chaves: bacias hidrográficas, análise multivariada, teste “t”.  BARROS, B.S.X. de; BARROS, Z.X. de; POLLO, R.A.MULTIVARIATE STATISTICS AND ANALYSIS OF ORTHOGONAL CONTRASTS APPLIED TO DIMENSIONAL VARIABLES OF WATERSHEDS  2 ABSTRACT In the present study, the multivariate statistics and analysis of orthogonal contrasts among means (T test) were applied to dimensional variables in third order watersheds. They were obtained by non-orbital aerial images in the Itobi city-SP, aiming at grouping watersheds of second degree of similarity, as well as detecting how representative the spatial distribution of groups is. Moreover, the orthogonal contrasts among the soils involved, regarding the Soil Map of  São Paulo State from 1999, were verified by the Student´s t  test.  Vertical aerial  photographs, 1:30000 approximate nominal scale; plani altimetric maps in 1:50000 scale (IBGE-1973) were used as cartographic basis as well as the soil maps of São Paulo state.  A total of 16 watersheds distributed throughout the city   were studied. The city has two predominant types of soil as follows:   Alfisol and Oxisol. The dimensional variables subjected to grouping analysis discriminated 60% and 50% of watersheds considered for the Alfisol soil and  Oxisol soil, respectively.  Keywords: watersheds, multivariate analysis, Student T test

Abstract Objectives: to identify and to discuss the frequency of the prenatal and puerperal care of pregnant women from the eastern zone of São Paulo city, São Paulo State, Brazil, categorizing it according to the Kessner Index modified in 1993 by Takeda. We used the data avai-lable on the card of pregnant woman and the discharge summaries, correlating the results with the indicators of severity in childbirth. Methods: this is a descriptive, cross-sectional quantitative study based on the analysis of the variables of the pregnant woman's card and the diagnoses identified in the discharge summaries. Data were collected through a field survey conducted in the Eastern zone of the city of São Paulo city, São Paulo State, Brazil. A statistical analysis was used to identify asso-ciations between the categorization and the severity indicators listed in the discharge summaries. Results: it was observed that prenatal care in the Eastern zone of São Paulo city, São Paulo State, Brazil was classified as intermediate (56.9%) in the majority of women. Regarding this categorization with the severity indicators, there is a higher incidence of risks for inappropriate categorization (8.89%) when compared to the appropriate (1.67%) and the intermediate (4.44%) ones. Conclusions: it was possible to conclude that the more adequate prenatal care, the lower the chances of unfavorable outcomes and incidence of risks.
