In the current climate, preparing for change is an issue for companies large and small. However, there remains a dearth of empirical evidence that highlight how software Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) operationalise their approach to knowledge management (KM) as a means of preparing themselves for the future. For an SME, the first step is to take stock of the types of knowledge that are valuable to the business, where it is stored and how it is used. In addition, consideration must be given to knowledge activities (KA), the constituent parts, of a company’s KM approach. By doing this, the organisation can identify where its strengths lie in terms of the type and extent to which knowledge is managed through acquisition, codification, storage, maintenance, transfer and creation activities. Using a qualitative analysis approach in a single case study, this chapter identifies occurrences of these knowledge activities as a means of assessing an SME’s approach to KM with a view to better facilitating an organisation’s ability to be increasingly flexible in the face of a changing environment.

Abstract Acacia and Eucalypt are important species in the global forest plantations. The resilience of those species under the changing environment would define their significance in the dynamic of forest plantation. This study was aimed to provide information on the growth performance of two acacias and two eucalypts seedlings under elevated CO2 concentrations. The seedlings of A. auriculiformis, A. mangium, E. camadulensis, and E. urophylla were subjected to two levels of CO2 and two levels of nutrient supply in the FACE system in Sapporo Experimental Forest, Japan. The eucalypts showed significantly higher growth performance than the acacias. The nutrient addition significantly increased the growth, yet the CO2 and interaction between CO2 and nutrients were not significantly different. LMA was not significantly affected by the elevated CO2 and nutrient addition. Although nutrients significantly affected the C/N in the eucalypts, they showed no different effect on the acacias. As expected, Nmass and Narea were higher in the acacia than those in the eucalypts, although no significant responses were shown to elevated CO2 and nutrient addition. The tested acacia and eucalypts showed relatively insensitivity to elevated CO2. Thus they might possess resilience capacity under the keep increasing level of the atmospheric CO2 concentration.

Research across a range of biological subdisciplines and scales, ranging from molecular to ecosystemic, provides ample evidence that living systems generally exhibit both a degree of resistance to disruption and an ability to recover following disturbance. Not only do mechanisms of robustness and resilience exist across and between systems, but those mechanisms exhibit ubiquitous and scalable commonalities in pattern and function. Mechanisms such as redundancy, plasticity, interconnectivity, and coordination of subunits appear to be crucial internal players in the determination of stability. Similarly, factors external to the system such as the amplitude, frequency, and predictability of disruptors, or the prevalence of key limiting resources, may constrain pathways of response. In the face of a rapidly changing environment, there is a pressing need to develop a common framework for describing, assessing, and predicting robustness and resilience within and across living systems.

AbstractIn the last several decades, the religious landscape in Nigeria has been transformed by the rise of neo-Pentecostal or ‘new generation’ churches. These churches teach a gospel of prosperity, advance an oppositional view of the world, focus on a supernatural arena of spiritual forces, accord a unique weight to the Bible, and practice a charismatic worship style. One result of the presence of these churches has been to change the face of Anglicanism in Nigeria. Concerned about the possibility of diminished influence and prestige, the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has responded to neo-Pentecostal churches by adopting more of its rivals’ beliefs and practices. This paper argues that this changing environment explains, in part, Nigerian opposition to efforts at global Anglican unity and argues that it is impossible to address the future of the Anglican Communion without first understanding the on-the-ground religious context in Nigeria.

AbstractThis text analyzes what has and what has not happened in Mexican higher education during the last 10 years, particularly what has happened in the public universities (the illustrative case of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla). For that purpose, we propose a different way of analyzing organizational change, by focusing on the changes in the perspective of a changing environment and the response of the organization to said environment. That analytical focus offers guidelines not only to describe the changes but also to be able to make comparisons with other institutions and countries, or to be able to judge the quality or the direction of the change, as well as to be able to know whether a change was an innovation or a step backward. Thus, we see vaguely that in the face of the changes in the world, and in Mexico , the public national universities have been reluctant to change; and when change has occurred, it has done so inopportunely and incongruently with the changes in other regions.

Digitalization is a process which enters all areas of human, business, and social activity. It is a significant megatrend in business transformation. It serves as a source of innovation, a tool for value creation, and an infrastructure facilitating access to the Internet. It is a necessity when living in the network society, as it allows for greater flexibility in reacting to the changing environment. Digitalization involves communication, distribution, products, and services. It brings specific benefits to organizations operating in the network society. It is the major source of innovation, as well as the essence of technological development of the industry, therefore, further development of digital business might be expected. 5G and 6G networks are a requisite condition for Polish enterprises to join global production and service networks. Furthermore, these networks create opportunities for development in the field of economy and in the social sphere. The development of digitalization along with 5G and 6G networks raises both hope and concern, hence entailing an urgent need to raise public awareness in this respect as well. The aim of the article is to illustrate the role, importance, determinants, and consequences of digitalization for organizational management in the network society. In the face of a rapidly changing environment full of hazards and uncertainty, digitalization emerges as a way of conducting business, which enables companies to reach a greater number of customers and improve operational efficiency. The article also refers to the determinants and consequences of 5G and 6G networks. The applied research methods include an extensive analysis of the existing literature and inference based on the data available.
