Several years ago a three-parameter system of stellar classification has been proposed (1, 2), for the early-type stars (O-G): it was an improvement on the two-parameter system described by Barbier and Chalonge (3).

Summary: Different shapes of individual subjective discount functions were compared using real measures of willingness to accept future monetary outcomes in an experiment. The two-parameter hyperbolic discount function described the data better than three alternative one-parameter discount functions. However, the hyperbolic discount functions did not explain the common difference effect better than the classical discount function. Discount functions were also estimated from survey data of Dutch households who reported their willingness to postpone positive and negative amounts. Future positive amounts were discounted more than future negative amounts and smaller amounts were discounted more than larger amounts. Furthermore, younger people discounted more than older people. Finally, discount functions were used in explaining consumers' willingness to pay for an energy-saving durable good. In this case, the two-parameter discount model could not be estimated and the one-parameter models did not differ significantly in explaining the data.

In the paper the interaction of several loads like pressure, axial force, bending moment and torsional moment are analyzed, taking into account the deterioration due to cracks and the influence of residual stresses. A nonlinear, power law, of structure material is considered. General relationships for total participation of specific energies introduced in the structure by the loads, as well as for the critical participation have been proposed. On these bases: - a new strength calculation methods was developed; strength of tubular cracked structures and of cracked tubular junction subjected to combined loading and strength were analyzed. Relationships for critical state have been proposed, based on dimensionless variables. These theoretical results fit with experimental date reported in literature. On the other side stress concentration coefficients were defined. Our one experiments onto a model of a pipe with two opposite nozzles have been achieved. Near one of the nozzles is a crack on the run pipe. Trough the experiments the state of stress have been obtained near the tubular junction, near the tip of the crack and far from the stress concentration points. On this basis the stress concentration coefficients were calculated.

A technique for rapidly determining Monod and inhibition kinetic parameters in activated sludge is evaluated. The method studied is known as the fed-batch reactor technique and requires approximately three hours to complete. The technique allows for a gradual build-up of substrate in the test reactor by introducing the substrate at a feed rate greater than the maximum substrate utilization rate. Both inhibitory and non-inhibitory substrate responses are modeled using a nonlinear numerical curve-fitting technique. The responses of both glucose and 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) are studied using activated sludges with various acclimation histories. Statistically different inhibition constants, KI, for DCP inhibition of glucose utilization were found for the various sludges studied. The curve-fitting algorithm was verified in its ability to accurately retrieve two kinetic parameters from synthetic data generated by superimposing normally distributed random error onto the two parameter numerical solution generated by the algorithm.
