The current study compares the rhetorical structure and metadiscourse of research article abstracts in more and less prestigious journals in Linguistics. To this end, 200 abstracts from peer-reviewed Linguistics journals that are indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus were compared with 200 abstracts extracted from peer-reviewed Linguistics journals that are not indexed in either of these two highly ranked databases. Using Hyland’s (2000) model of move analysis and Hyland’s (2005) taxonomy of metadiscourse, the study reveals that abstracts in less prestigious journals typically include longer moves for introduction, purpose and method while abstracts in more prestigious journals include significantly lengthier findings. As for metadiscourse, abstracts in less prestigious journals employ significantly more transitions, frame markers and evidentials whereas the abstracts in more prestigious journals exhibit a higher use of code glosses, hedges, boosters and self-mentions. The results are interpreted with reference to the types of journals, and pedagogical implications and new research directions are proposed.

The bibliometric method has proven to be a powerful tool for the analysis of scientific publications, in such a way that allows rating the quality of the knowledge generating process, as well as its impact on firm´s environment. This article presents a comparison between two powerful bibliographic databases in terms of their coverage and the usefulness of their content. The comparison starts with a subject associated to the relationship between resources and capabilities. The outcomes show that the search results differ between both databases. The Web Of Science (WOS), has a greater coverage than SCOPUS has.  It also has a greater impact in terms of most cited authors and publications. The search results in the WOS yield articles from 2001, while Scopus yields articles from 1976, however, some of the latter are inconsistent with the topic being searched. The analysis points to a lack of studies regarding resources as foundations of firm´s capabilities; as a result, new research on this field is suggested.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs) pollution has garnered significant interest as a serious environmental problem. To date, a large amount of research has been published on this topic. We analyzed the related studies to assess the global developments of MPs regarding the evolution, research trends, and hotspots by bibliometric. A total of 2,872 bibliographic records were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and CiteSpace 5.4 was used for bibliometrics. The results visually displayed the contributing countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and potential research directions in the MPs fields. The scientific developments in this field began in 2004 and have accelerated considerably since 2012. China and the USA are the leading countries in MPs research. The research on MPs is multidisciplinary and involves Ecology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, and Oceanography. Among these, Oceanography was the most connected with MPs and was the most well-developed. Overall, we mapped the development of MPs research and attempted a comprehensive discussion and understanding of scientific advances, as well as the progress made.

The interest in the Airbnb phenomenon is represented in the fast growth of publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) since the research inception of this topic in 2010. However, there are no studies that analyze the incidence of this phenomenon from a bibliometric approach using WoS. Therefore, this paper aims to quantify the incidence and composition of the Airbnb phenomenon through bibliometrics taken it as a data source. To achieve this aim, the WoS statistical instruments and the bibliometric tool VOSviewer are used. The results obtained, such as the number of articles and citations per year, the main categories of these articles, the nationalities of the authors, the most productive institutions, the sources and authors in terms of publications, and the H-Core of the most cited articles, are presented. Finally, concept maps are exposed, representing the relatedness of co-authorship and co-citation among authors, as well as the co-occurrence of the keywords in the articles analyzed. Satisfaction, trust, and innovation appear as the main research lines. This paper can be useful for academics and professionals, giving them a holistic overview of the topic, identifying new research areas, or as an objective manner to literary review approaches.

Empirical analysis results concerning the possible causes of non-citation may help increase the potential of researchers’ work to be cited. After complete literature retrieval from the Web of Science, Google Scholar and Scopus databases, we find that very few studies focus on the empirical analysis of causes of non-citation. In this article, we conduct a survey of the possible causes for citation or non-citation based on a questionnaire. We then perform a statistical analysis to identify the major causes of non-citation in combination with the analysis of the data collected through the survey. Most respondents to our questionnaire identified seven major points (‘research hotspots and novel topics of content’, ‘research topics similar to my work’, ‘high quality of content’, ‘reasonable self-citation’, ‘highlighted title’, ‘prestigious authors’, and ‘academic tastes and interests similar to mine’) that facilitate easy citation of one’s papers. They also pointed out that the vast difference between their current and former research directions is the primary reason for their previously uncited papers. They feel that texts that include notes, comments and letters to editors are rarely cited, and the same is true for papers that are too short or too lengthy. In comparison, it is easier for reviews, articles, or papers of intermediate length to be cited.

This review presents literature that highlights saliva’s utility as a biofluid in the diagnosis and monitoring of COVID-19. A systematic search was performed in 5 electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, LILACS, Scopus, and Web of Science). Studies were eligible for inclusion if they assessed the potential diagnostic value and/or other discriminatory properties of biological markers in the saliva of patients with COVID-19. As of July 22, 2020, a total of 28 studies have investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in saliva. Several of those studies confirmed reliable detection of SARS-CoV-2 in the saliva of patients with COVID-19. Saliva offered sensitivity and specificity for SARS-CoV-2 detection comparable to that of the current standard of nasopharyngeal and throat swabs. However, the utility of saliva in diagnosing COVID-19 infection remains understudied. Clinical studies with larger patient populations that measure recordings at different stages during the disease are still necessary to confirm the accuracy of COVID-19 diagnosis with saliva. Nevertheless, the utility of saliva as a diagnostic tool opens the possibility of using rapid and less invasive diagnostic strategies by targeting bioanalytes rather than the pathogen.

Developing the sustainable thinking of students is an important preoccupation of specialists, teachers, and civil society. Information literacy represents the development of students’ skills to search, identify, evaluate, and ethically use scientific information. Is there a connection between sustainable thinking (ST) and information literacy (IL)? Through a scientometric study in the Web of Science (WOS) database, the authors identify clusters of keywords, analyze the articles identified in WOS, and identify the main research directions and the existing concepts. At the same time, a qualitative research study is performed regarding the opinions of students who participated in the IL class. By corroborating and interpreting the results obtained by the two previously mentioned research, the authors demonstrate a close correlation between the two, thus creating an extended map of these concepts, a limited map of the concepts used, and a theoretical map of the concepts. The connection between information literacy and the development of ST is demonstrated, thus creating the premise for a new research direction.

Purpose: The popularisation of studies on ecosystem occurred, fundamentally, after the work of Adner (2006) and began to gain theoretical strength after the study by Gomes et al. (2018a), who identified a turning point between the concepts of business ecosystems and innovation ecosystems (IE) analysing studies from 1993 to 2016. The objective of this study is to present the characteristics, trends, and current research avenues of the concept post-transition, especially in the period from 2017 to 2019, during which more publications were produced than in the first 24 years. Design/methodology/approach: Using data from the Web of Science, we performed a systematic literature review, through bibliometric ([Formula: see text] = 153 studies) and content analysis ([Formula: see text] = 15 studies). Data were analysed through bibliometrix (a R-tool package) and reading of the studies selected. Findings: Our study revealed some new research suggestions linked to actors, infrastructure and financial capital for innovation; public policy, social capital, and development; IE Governance; and IE limits. Research limitation/implications: One limitation of our study is the fact that it only used the Web of Science database. Originality/value: Even though the literature on IE is extensive, no studies have captured the recent trends on this topic. These trends can be useful for ‘new avenues’ in IE research. The findings also can be important to clarify the concept of IE.
