Objective: This study aimed to measure and analyze the outcome of primary unilateral cleft lip repair. Design: Observational cohort study. Setting: Surabaya Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP) Center, a major referral center for the Eastern part of Indonesia, affiliated with a tertiary center. Patients, Participants: From 69 patients who met the inclusion criteria, we excluded 31 patients who were more than 2 years of age and were operated on by junior residents under supervision. Interventions: We performed anthropometric measurements of the patients on photographs taken before, immediately after, and a year after the surgery. Main Outcome Measure(s): This study measured nasal width, vertical lip height, horizontal lip length, and philtral height ratios. Results: While nasal width and philtral height ratios decreased significantly ( P = .000 and P = .000, respectively) reaching symmetry immediately after surgery, the horizontal lip length, and vertical lip height ratios remained unchanged ( P = .862 and P = .981, respectively). A year after surgery, the nasal width and horizontal lip length ratios increased significantly ( P = .017 and P = .006, respectively), while philtral height and vertical lip height ratios remained unchanged ( P = .927 and P = .138, respectively). There was no difference in the ratios based on the initial size and completeness of the cleft. Conclusion: In Surabaya CLP Center, the symmetry of nasal width, philtral height, horizontal lip length, and vertical lip height were achieved by the unilateral cleft lip repair despite the initial size and completeness of the cleft.

A semi-analytical solution for plane velocity fields describing steady-state incompressible flow of nonlinearly viscous fluid into an elliptical opening is presented. The flow is driven by hydrostatic pressure applied at infinity. The solution is obtained by minimizing the rate of energy dissipation on a sufficiently flexible incompressible velocity field in elliptical coordinates. The medium is described by a power creep law and solutions are obtained for a range of exponents and ellipse eccentricites. The obtained solutions compare favorably with results of finite element analysis.

Abstract Stem cuttings of Leyland cypress [Callitropsis × leylandii (A. B. Jacks. & Dallim.) D. P. Little; syn. × Cupressocyparis leylandii (A. B. Jacks. & Dallim.) Dallim. & A. B. Jacks.] were rooted beginning May 2004. In February 2005, liners were sorted into four grades [1 = firm root ball, top to bottom, 2 = good root ball, but loose in the upper one-third; 3 = no distinct root ball, but with enough roots to survive when potted and grown in irrigated containers; and 4 = roots ≤ 2 cm (0.8 in) in length (discarded)]. Liners from Grades 1 and 2 were transplanted to the field April 2005. Additional liners of Grades 1, 2, and 3 were grown in 3.8-liter (1-gal) containers in a nursery during 2005, and field planted early September 2005. Height and stem diameter were recorded after 1 and 2 years. Containerizing affected stem diameter more than height. Growth during the first 2 years was proportional to initial size, indicating the benefits of grading. After 2 years, the largest plants were Grade 1 liners that went directly to the field April 2005, with no intermediate potting.
