Abstract A fatigue testing system is established with which the real-time recording of stress, strain, temperature, and hysteresis loss of rubbers or cord-rubber composite specimens subjected to periodic loading or extension can be successfully carried out. Several problems are connected with the experimental study of the fatigue of rubber composites. In constant extension cycling, the specimen becomes relaxed because of the viscoelasticity of rubber composites, and the imposed tension-tension deformation becomes complex. In this method, the specimen is unlikely to fail unless the imposed extensions are very large. Constant load cycling can avoid the shortcomings of constant extension cycling. The specially designed clamps ensure that the specimen does not slip when the load retains a constant value. The Deformation and fatigue damage accumulation processes of rubber composites under periodic loading are also examined. Obviously, the effect of cycle frequency on the fatigue life of rubber composites can not be ignored because of the viscoelasticity of constituent materials. The increase of specimen surface temperature is relatively small in the case of 1 Hz, but the temperature can easily reach 100°C at the 8 Hz frequency. A method for evaluating the fatigue behavior of tires is proposed.

This study aims at experimentally revealing the effects of damages/fractures in HAp coating layer of acetabular cups on loosening behavior of the acetabular cups. Aseptic loosening is occurred due to degradation of fixing force of acetabular cups by biological effects or mechanical loading. However, effects of mechanical loading on loosening behaviour have not been observed yet. In order to simulate cyclic loading conditions of gaits, a testing system which can load entire components of joint including acetabular cups and stem parts was designed. Moreover, by applying two positions of AE sensors during fatigue testing, it was possible to observe the damage behavior of HAp coating. AE measurement detected different failure modes of HAp coating, which were locally occurred at an edge part of the acetabular cup due to stress singularity at that region. In the cases of changing fixation angles, even though damages in simulated cancellous bone surrounding acetabular cups were less occurred, extents of rotational displacements were compatible with the one in an original fixation angle.

In order to improve fatigue life of wheel steel, secondary-refining process was done with Al-deoxidation and slag of high basicity, high Al2O3 content and low oxidizing property. By morphology observation and composition analysis with FESEM, it is found that during LF-VD process, by slag-steel-inclusion interaction, Al2O3 inclusions could transform to MgO-Al2O3 spinel, and later on to CaO-MgO-Al2O3 inclusions, which are inclined to be eliminated by floatation, lowering T[O] content to 0.0007%, enhancing fatigue life of wheel steel. By In-Situ observation with CONFOCAL laser scanning microscope, it is found that MnS precipitates during solidification process, which would core oxide inclusion to form MnS-oxide complex inclusion, contributing to fatigue life improvement of wheel steel. By INSTRON fatigue testing machine, it is found that by successful inclusion control, tested samples achieve ultra-high cycle of 108 above, realizing experimental purpose of improving fatigue life of wheel steel, boosting domestic production process of CRH high speed wheel steel.

PC-based data acquisition systems are used in a wide variety of applications. In laboratories, in field services and in manufacturing facilities, these systems act as general-purpose measurement and control tools well suited for measuring voltage signals. Teaching and learning experiences may be enhanced by integrating new-technologies in the engineering curriculum, particularly in experimental-type courses. By installing plug-in data acquisition boards and signal-conditioning hardware, and appropriate software, the general-purpose computers become enormously flexible virtual-instruments with data acquisition and analysis capability. This paper describes a Computer-Aided Testing System which uses a commercially available A/D board to offer users a wide array of measurement and control capabilities. It can be used for making repeated high speed measurement, controlling motors or teaching data acquisition.

To solve the problem of testing BMBS (BLOW-OUT MONITORING AND BRAKE SYSTEM) vacuum booster performance, a double-station and on-line test system for BMBS vacuum booster was designed. It adopts high-speed data collection method and computer control technology. This system can test the performance in non-BMBS condition and BMBS condition. The test items mainly include dynamic characteristic and sealing performance under each condition. The double stations are independent and have no interference with each other. The system fills up the blank of performance testing about BMBS vacuum booster. To verify this system, experiments were conducted with the vacuum booster which installed the BMBS technology. The experiment results show that the system can do well in testing the performance of BMBS vacuum booster in high precision. The sealing performance resolution is 0.01kPa and the pressure resolution is 1N.

The dynamic analyses of a reversible bending fatigue testing system designed for the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) vibration integrity study was presented in this paper. Different design concepts were evaluated to assist the U-frame tester development. A finite element analysis (FEA) based on the vertical test setup was established to simulate the U-frame test system dynamic performances. The FEA results provided general guideline on predicting the dynamic behaviors of U-frame bending fatigue system for testing SNF. The initial vertical test setup design concepts were investigated in detail and the associated deficiencies were also discussed in the paper. The horizontal test setup was also evaluated using FEA. Based on dynamic analysis results, the horizontal test setup with symmetric loading profile was recommended for developing a reversible U-frame bending fatigue testing system.
