The article discusses solutions for anti-corrosion protection of trailer and trailer’s elements. Due to the different operating conditions, the protective coating of metal elements must be resistant to chemical substances in a dry and wet environment that stimulates corrosion processes. Corrosion resistance must also be ensured on elements subjected to locally high stresses and thermal loads that prevail during the operation of trailers in road transport. The study also defines the criteria and methods for the selection of coatings to protect surfaces exposed to corrosion.

This paper discusses the current areas of work to en-sure the performance of protective coatings for machinery and equipment in theagricultural industry complex for the conditions of Siberia. The following five main areas were identified: corrosion protection, thermoregulation, fire re-sistance, antistatics and radiation protection. It was found that the most efficient way to ensure the performance of coatings is their nanomodification. The method of fire re-sistance tests developed at the Novosibirsk State Agricul-tural University is presented. The results of preliminary tests in two areas are presented: fire resistance and corro-sion protection. One of the promising nano-additives is bismuth oxide which may improve fire resistance and phys-ical and mechanical properties. According to the research results, when the concentration of bismuth oxide reaches 5%, an extremum is observed for the values of hardness (86-94) and adhesion (3.3-3.6 MPa) of the coating. At the same time, the addition of bismuth oxide in a concentration of 7.5% made it possible to achieve a significant increase in the fire resistance of the coating. Fire resistance and ignition time increased to 240°C and 65 s, respectively. Some of the most effective additives are identified and the further direction of the study is indicated which consists in optimizing the compositions of protective coatings and providing a set of properties for operating conditions in each specific case. It is also necessary to take into account the combined effect of nanomodifiers on the properties of the protective coating.

The choice of cost-effective method of anticorrosive protection of steel structures is an urgent and time consuming task, considering the significant number of protection ways, differing from each other in the complex of technological, physical, chemical and economic characteristics. To reduce the complexity of solving this problem, the author proposes a computational tool that can be considered as a subsystem of computer-aided design and used at the stage of variant and detailed design of steel structures. As a criterion of the effectiveness of the anti-corrosion protection method, the cost of the protective coating during the service life is accepted. The analysis of existing methods of steel protection against corrosion is performed, the possibility of their use for the protection of the most common steel structures is established, as well as the estimated period of effective operation of the coating. The developed computational tool makes it possible to choose the best method of protection of steel structures against corrosion, taking into account the operating conditions of the protected structure and the possibility of using a protective coating.

Abstract Remanit 4306 is a low-carbon chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel that is superior in corrosion resistance to type 302 (see Alloy Digest SS-99, revised September 1998). Due to its low carbon content, Remanit 4306 is intergranular corrosion resistant under continuous operating conditions up to 350 C (652 F). This grade is particular suitable for high degrees of cold working and for sequential drawing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and joining. Filing Code: SS-679. Producer or source: Thyssen Stahl AG.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations demand for an expedient discovery of a Cr(VI)-free alternative corrosion protection for light alloys even though the green alternatives might never be as cheap as current harmful technologies. In the present work, flash- plasma electrolytic oxidation coatings (FPEO) with the process duration < 90 s are developed on AZ31B alloy in varied mixtures of silicate-, phosphate-, aluminate-, and fluoride-based alkaline electrolytes implementing current density and voltage limits. The overall evaluation of the coatings’ anticorrosion performance (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), neutral salt spray test (NSST), paintability) shows that from nine optimized FPEO recipes, two (based on phosphate, fluoride, and aluminate or silicate mixtures) are found to be an adequate substitute for commercially used Cr(VI)-based conversion coating (CCC). The FPEO coatings with the best corrosion resistance consume a very low amount of energy (~1 kW h m−2 µm−1). It is also found that the lower the energy consumption of the FPEO process, the better the corrosion resistance of the resultant coating. The superb corrosion protection and a solid environmentally friendly outlook of PEO-based corrosion protection technology may facilitate the economic justification for industrial end-users of the current-consuming process as a replacement of the electroless CCC process.

The optimisation of engine performance by predictive means can help save cost and reduce environmental pollution. This can be achieved by developing a performance model which depicts the operating conditions of a given engine. Such models can also be used for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. Creating such models requires a method that can cope with the lack of component parameters and some important measurement data. This kind of method is said to be adaptive since it predicts unknown component parameters that match available target measurement data. In this paper an industrial aeroderivative gas turbine has been modelled at design and off-design points using an adaptation approach. At design point, a sensitivity analysis has been used to evaluate the relationships between the available target performance parameters and the unknown component parameters. This ensured the proper selection of parameters for the adaptation process which led to a minimisation of the adaptation error and a comprehensive prediction of the unknown component and available target parameters. At off-design point, the adaptation process predicted component map scaling factors necessary to match available off-design point performance data.

Combustor liner of present gas turbine engines is subjected to high thermal loads as it surrounds high temperature combustion reactants and is hence facing the related radiative load. This generally produces high thermal stress levels on the liner, strongly limiting its life expectations and making it one of the most critical components of the entire engine. The reliable prediction of such thermal loads is hence a crucial aspect to increase the flame tube life span and to ensure safe operations. The present study aims at investigating the aerothermal behavior of a GE Dry Low NOx (DLN1) class flame tube and in particular at evaluating working metal temperatures of the liner in relation to the flow and heat transfer state inside and outside the combustion chamber. Three different operating conditions have been accounted for (i.e., lean–lean partial load, premixed full load, and primary load) to determine the amount of heat transfer from the gas to the liner by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The numerical predictions have been compared to experimental measurements of metal temperature showing a good agreement between CFD and experiments.
