Obesity is a major health problem for people living in the UK, and it currently affects many children. The objectives of this study is to assess the psychometric measures of eating behaviour associated with obesity in primary school-aged children in the city of Bangor (North Wales, UK). Across-sectional survey of children’s eating behaviours and their relationship to obesity was done in four primary schools in the city of Bangor (North Wales, UK).The study utilized the method of cross-sectional survey of Wales’s children’s eating behaviour in association with obesity using two groups of children aged 7–8 years and 10–11 years through four junior schools in Bangor. It was assessed using the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) and body composition was estimated using BMIs. Total of 153 children 81 were boys and 72 were girls. The statistical analysis used is based on multiple regression analysis with the dependent or predicted variable being BMI and the independent or predictor variables being food responsiveness, emotional under eating and exercise.It was found that exercise was significant at p value< 0.042 and negatively associated with BMI, which means that there is a significant difference between exercise and BMI. Two behavioural characteristics derived from the CEBQ which are food responsiveness and emotional under-eating. This is statistically significant at p value <0.01 and positively associated with BMI, show that increase food responsiveness and emotional under-eating is different with increases of BMI.The psychometric measures of children’s eating styles obtained from CEBQ showed that exercise change as above, with BMI; that is children who were rated as having more exercise were more likely to have a lower BMI.

This study aimed to investigate whether mass drug administration (MDA) intervention has an equivalent effect on reducing the prevalence and intensity of Schistosoma haematobium infection regardless of the baseline values. A repeated cross-sectional survey was performed targeting students of 12 primary schools in Al Jabalain and El Salam districts of White Nile State, Sudan, at both 1 week before and 8 months after the MDA. Prior to the baseline survey, school-aged children in Al Jabalain had received MDA interventions twice in 4 years, while those in El Salam had not. The baseline prevalence was 9.1% in Al Jabalain and 35.2% in El Salam, which were reduced to 1.8% and 5.5% at 8 months after the MDA, respectively. The corresponding reduction rates were 80.3% and 84.4%, not significant difference between both districts. However, changes in the geometric mean intensity (GMI) of egg counts were significantly different between both districts. The baseline GMIs were 14.5 eggs per 10 ml of urine (EP10) in Al Jabalain and 18.5 EP10 in El Salam, which were reduced to 7.1 and 11.2 EP10 after treatment, respectively. The corresponding reduction rates were 51.0% and 39.5%. In conclusion, MDA interventions were found to bring about similar relative reduction in prevalence regardless of the baseline value; however, the relative reduction in infection intensity was more salient in the district with a low baseline value for both prevalence and intensity. This clearly points to the importance of repeated MDA interventions in endemic areas, which will eventually contribute to schistosomiasis elimination.

The objective of any educational system is to provide education for all learners with diverse needs and abilities to enable them to achieve their potential and subsequently contribute to society. Teachers are in a position to be the first to suspect that a child might have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) because they are with them for most of the day and they know how normal learners typically behave in classroom situations. One group pre-test post-test quasi-experimental study was employed for this study. The population comprised 42 teachers in the selected schools. Total enumeration was used for the study. A self-structured questionnaire was validated and used to collect data. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient of the construct ranged from 0.741 to 0.808. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed 45.2% participants had low knowledge, 18.1% and 16.7% had moderate and high knowledge respectively at the pre-intervention stage while at the post-intervention stage, 14.3% had low knowledge score while 21.4% and 64.3% had moderate and high knowledge scores respectively. Also, at the pre-intervention stage of this study, it was found that 64.3% participants had a bad management score of ADHD while 35.7% had a good management score of ADHD. The result indicated that there is a non-significant difference in the post intervention knowledge and management of ADHD among the respondents as a p-value of 0.494 was recorded which is much greater than the alpha (α) p-value of 0.05. The study concluded that the role of teachers in the identification and management of ADHD cannot be overlooked. This shows that training and proper education of the teachers will go a long way in the management of attention deficit in the pupils. The study recommended that the management of ADHD should be included in educational programs. Also, there should be follow-up to monitor the progress of the teachers in the management of children with ADHD.

AbstractObjectivesTo examine school-level relationships between deprivation and breakfast eating behaviours (breakfast skipping and the healthfulness of foods consumed) in 9–11-year-old schoolchildren and to examine whether attitudes towards eating breakfast mediated these relationships.DesignCross-sectional survey.SettingOne hundred and eleven primary schools in Wales.SubjectsYear 5 and 6 pupils within the 111 primary schools. Measures were completed by 4314 children. Analysis was conducted at the group (school) level, with each school representing one group.ResultsDeprivation was positively associated with breakfast skipping and consumption of ‘unhealthy’ items (i.e. sweet snacks, crisps) for breakfast. A significant negative association was found between deprivation and consumption of ‘healthy’ items (i.e. fruit, bread, cereal, milk). Deprivation was significantly inversely associated with attitudes towards eating breakfast. The relationships between deprivation and (1) breakfast skipping and (2) consumption of ‘healthy’ items for breakfast were mediated by attitudes towards eating breakfast. The hypothesis that attitudes mediated the relationship between deprivation and consumption of ‘unhealthy’ breakfast items was unsupported.ConclusionsDeprivation is associated with adverse breakfast eating behaviours amongst children aged 9–11 years, in terms of breakfast skipping and the quality of breakfasts consumed. Socio-economic differences in attitudes towards eating breakfast are apparent amongst this age group, and appear to relate to social gradients in breakfast eating behaviours. Research is needed to examine the causal nature of these trends and to elucidate factors underlying the development of socio-economic differences in eating-related cognitions.

Abstract Objective: To identify how different eating behaviours are correlated, and to analyse which behaviour is a true predictor of food satisfaction while comparing the pattern in gender behaviours. Methods: The correlational study was conducted at the Department of Humanities, COMSATS University, Islamabad, Pakistan, from January to May, 2019, and comprised adult individuals of both genders from different universities and food outlets located in Islamabad. Data was collected using the adult eating behaviour questionnaire and satisfaction with food-related life scale. Data was analysed using SPSS version 25. Results: Of the 430 subjects, 183(42.5%) males and 247(57.4%) were females. All subscales of the adult eating behaviour questionnaire were correlated positively with the satisfaction with food-related life scale scale except for satiety responsiveness which showed negative correlation (r=-0.07). Enjoyment of food, food responsiveness and hunger subscales acted as true predictors of satisfaction with food-related life with correlation values of 0.37, 0.38 and 0.33 respectively. Significant difference was found across gender only on satiety responsiveness (p<0.05). Conclusion: Increase in enjoyment of food, food responsiveness and hunger were found to increase satisfaction with food-related life. Abstract Background: Present study aimed to explore the knowledge and attitude of dental faculty at Qassim University, regarding novel COVID 19 disease. Methods: The cross-sectional survey was conducted on the faculty at undergraduate dental school. The self-designed e-survey was administered to 78 faculty members to assess their knowledge and attitudes towards the COVID-19 disease. Data analysis was conducted by using SPSS version 23. Descriptive statistics were reported as frequency and percentages. Chi-square test was utilized to identify the correlation between the independent and dependent variables. The inferential statistics (Kruskal-Wallis tests and Mann-Whitney U test) were utilized for assessing the significance between study variables. The association between knowledge and attitude was evaluated by using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Results: A total of 55 faculty members (70.5%) responded. Mean knowledge score was 10± 2.71. 37 (67.3%) respondents showed positive attitude towards COVID-19 while 18(32.7%) displayed negative attitude. The mean attitude score was 4.08±0.50. Significant difference was found in knowledge (p-value=0.04) and attitude (p-value=0.015) of dental faculty based on designation.Conclusions: Qassim University dentists were mindful of the COVID-19 symptoms, means of transmission, Cross-infection control and operative protocols practiced within dental clinics. However, dentists exhibited inadequate knowledge about the specific dental procedures that safeguard the dental staff and patients from COVID-19 in context of current outbreak.

The wide spread of Corona virus or Covid-19 pandemic across the world has affected educational system worldwide, resulting to partial closures of schools. In line with the efforts to contain the spread, governments in different countries have issued directives to close schools to curtail the virus. As a result, there is a paradigm shift in the educational sector with the rise of Online/E-Learning and Teaching. The purpose of this study was to examine children perceptions of online coding in a boot camp program in Nigeria during COVID-19 period. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaire from the participants. A sample of fifty students in primary schools (K-8) were randomly selected. The students were examined based on their previous knowledge using the normal classroom teaching and the knowledge acquired using the e-learning platform on Computational thinking via unplugged activities and scratch programming. Sample t-test was used to compare the level of skill/knowledge acquired during online coding class and coding in formal contexts. The result shows that there is no significant difference between the teaching methods because p-value >5% significance level. However, the class activities were hampered by the difficulties in breaking the participants into groups and technical challenges as a result of internet and power failure. It was concluded that both interventions significantly improved students’ computational thinking skills and competency.

Aim: To analyze prevalence of cervical spondylitis among dentists practicing in Lahore. Methods: A cross sectional survey of 6 months was conducted on 110 dentists practicing in dental clinics of Lahore were examined using neck disability index performa. SPSS Version 24 used for entering/analyzing the data. Results: In 110 individuals, 22% dentists including males (n=19%) and females (n=24.2%) were suffering from cervical spondylitis. According to neck disability index 34.5% had no disability, 47.2% had mild, 10.9% had moderate, 5.4% had severe disability and only 1.9% had complete disability. The major number (30%) was among 41-50years, and also statistically significant difference was observed (p-value = 0.02). Similarly maximum number of cervical spondylitis was found among females, 15(24.2%) but statistically insignificant difference was observed with respect to gender (p-value = 0.493). Longer practicing experience had also significant impact on the occurrence of spondylitis (p-value <0.001). Conclusion: Dentists are likely to have neck pain prevalent in them and very few had cervical spondylitis (22%) but the damage could be reduced if postural changes and regular exercises could be adapted. Abstract Background: Skipping meals is a poor eating behaviour known to result in poor diet quality and health outcomes. Nevertheless, it has become increasingly common over a past few decades in many countries. This study aimed to examine the potential association between the use of workplace foodservices and skipping meals among Korean adult workers.Methods: We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2016–2018, a nationwide cross-sectional survey of a representative Korean population. A total of 6,845 workers aged 20–64 years were included. Dietary assessment was conducted using a 24-hour dietary recall.Results: In total, 40.9% of participants skipped one meal or more per day. The percentage of workers who skipped meals was 42.9±0.8% among the participants who did not use workplace foodservices, compared to 30.9±1.7% among those who did (P<0.01). Skipping meals was significantly associated with not using workplace foodservices, after adjusting for other confounders including sociodemographic variables, health-related variables, and meal procurement source (odds ratio=3.3; 95% confidence interval=2.7-4.0; P<0.01).Conclusions: We found a significant association between using workplace foodservices and skipping meals in Korean adult workers. This study suggests the importance of implementing dietary interventions, such as the provision of workplace foodservices for workers, to potentially reduce poor eating behaviours such as skipping meals.

ABSTRACT Introduction Epidemiological data on gingivitis in children are important for understanding the natural course of the disease, identifying its risk factors, and predicting its time trends. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and severity of gingivitis among 6- and 12-year-old school children in Dhamar city, Yemen. Materials and methods A total of 663 children (310 children of 6 years old and 353 children of 12 years old) were examined from 10 public primary schools. Gingival health status was assessed using the plaque index (PI), calculus index (CI), and gingival index (GI) on the six Ramfjord teeth. The latter index was used to categorize gingivitis severity at the subject level. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, chi-squared test, and Spearman's correlation. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Results Both age groups had high mean of PI and GI with nonsignificant difference. The 12-year-old children had calculus deposits much higher than the 6-year-old group with significant difference. There was a significant correlation between age and gender of the whole sample with CI [(odds ratio, OR = 1.65, p = 0.003) and (OR = 0.74, p = 0.05) respectively]. Most of the participants presented with gingival inflammation, which was less in 12-year-old females. Conclusion Poor oral hygiene and mild gingivitis were highly prevalent among Yemeni school children. Clinical significance The early assessment and intervention of gingivitis and periodontitis will minimize the chance of tooth loss. It has been reported that marginal gingivitis begins early in childhood, increases in prevalence and severity at puberty, and then subsides slightly to the remainder of the second decade of life.
