This article describes the overview of crankshaft analysis of a medium speed dieselengine. Crankshaft analysis includes static analysis, crankshaft dynamics, bearing analysis, gearanalysis, and stress & fatigue analysis, the latter being in main focus in this article. AVL ExcitePower unit is used for multi-body dynamics and Abaqus for finite element analysis.

The Impact

In the past finite element analysis (FEA) and multi-body system simulation (MBS) were two isolated methods in the field of mechanical system simulation. Both of them had their specific fields of application. In recent years, it is urgent to combine these two methods as the flexible multi-body system grows up. This paper mainly focuses on modeling of the spindle system of hammer crusher, including geometric model, finite element model and multi-body dynamics (MBD) model. For multi-body dynamics modeling, the contact force between hammer and scrap steel was discussed, which is important to obtain the impact force. This paper also proposed how to combine FEA and MBS to analyze the dynamic performance of the spindle system by using different software products of MSC.Software.

Due to rapid development in the industry, operating speeds and eccentricity produced undesirable vibrations which may lead to damage in bearings, seals, and lubrication systems. In the proposed paper, a novel analytical method was presented using an integrated multi-body dynamics and finite element analysis to simulate the lateral and torsional vibration. This method was applied to a proposed model of single rotor-system. In order to study the lateral and torsional vibration of the system profoundly, three markers were placed on the locations of the left and right bearings and the mass center of the shaft. The effects of bearing force caused by lateral and torsional vibrations were also analyzed. The results showed that the lateral vibration has a great effect on the dynamic of single rotor-system when lowering motor speed. It was found that, as motor speed increased, the motion of the system becomes more stable with steady fluctuates of the displacement response. The calculated natural frequency of SRS is compared with theoretical results to verify the transient solver. This novel method is practical in analyzing the lateral and torsional vibration of the SRS under various speeds and eccentricities.

For the problem that car sub-frame constraint connection complex and effective load more difficult to determine, using finite element and multi-body dynamics ADAMS co-simulation method, Analyzed on a Volkswagen vehicle sub-frame, obtained the accurate load on the sub-frame which are used by engine suspension. The finite element analysis results show that engine load is the greatest impact on the sub-frame stress field, which can be reduced by increasing the area of engine and the sub-frame contacting, thereby prolong the life of sub-frame.

Pendekatan pengkomputeran moden yang berasaskan analisis unsur terhingga untuk penilaian ketahanan dalam komponen enjin linear palam pencucuh piston bebas dua lejang dibentangkan. Maklumat pembebanan adalah sukar ditentukan tanpa sebarang prototaip. Sejarah pembebanan boleh ditentukan menggunakan dinamik multi–jasad. Dengan menggabungkan dinamik multi–jasad, analisis unsur terhingga dan analisis hayat lesu, hayat lesu bagi enjin linear boleh diramal awal semasa reka bentuk. Kertas kerja ini membentangkan ramalan hayat lesu bagi komponen enjin linear piston bebas dengan pembebanan amplitud berubah. Permodelan dan analisis unsur terhingga dijalankan menggunakan reka bentuk terbantu komputer dan perisian analisis unsur terhingga serta ramalan hayat lesu adalah menggunakan kod lesu komersial. Pendekatan permulaan retak digunakan bagi meramal hayat lesu komponen bagi enjin linear piston bebas. Keputusan yang diharapkan adalah plot kontur hayat lesu dan histogram kerosakan pada kes yang paling rosak. Keputusan yang diperolehi menunjukkan bila menggunakan rangkaian beban tegangan yang lebih banyak (beban SAETRN), SWT dan Morrow memberikan hayat lebih singkat daripada model Coffin Manson Walau bagaimanapun, kaedah Coffin–Manson memberikan ramalan yang konservertif bila sejarah masa beban mampatan lebih banyak dan tegasan min sifar. Keputusan juga menunjukkan julat tegasan yang besar juga menyumbang lebih besar kerosakan. Kata kunci: ketahanan, hayat lesu, unsur terhingga, dinamik multi–jasad, enjin linear piston bebas. A modern computational approach based on finite element analysis for integrated durability assessment in a two–stroke free piston spark ignition linear engine components is presented. The loading information is difficult to determine without a prototype. The loading histories can be determined using multi–body dynamics. By combining the multi–body dynamics, finite element analysis and fatigue life analysis, the fatigue life of the linear engine components can be predicted early in the design cycle. This paper presents the prediction of fatigue life for free piston linear engine components with complex variable amplitude loadings. The finite element modeling and analysis has been performed using a computer–aided design and finite element analysis software packages, and the fatigue life prediction was carried out using commercial fatigue codes. Crack initiation approach is applied to predict the fatigue life of the component of a free piston linear engine. The results are expected to show contour plots of fatigue life, and damage histogram at the worst or most damaging case. The obtained results indicate that when using the loading sequences is predominantly tensile in nature (SAETRN loading), the SWT and the Morrow models give shorter life than that results obtained using the Coffin–Manson model. However, the Coffin–Manson method gives conservative prediction when the time histories are predominantly compressive, and zero mean stress loadings. It was also observed that the damage to be generated from the cycles is in the higher stress range. This paper presents an integrated method, which is based on the CAD/CAE, for engine crankshaft design. A parametric modeling system of engine crankshaft is established with the CATIA secondary development tools. Taking advantage of the finite element analysis procedure of engine crankshaft strength which is programmed with ANSYS APDL programming language, the parametric loading, automatic solution and result analysis of the crankshaft strength can be realized. Integrating the parametric modeling system of engine crankshaft and the special finite element analysis procedure of the engine crankshaft strength, the three-dimensional digital model of the crankshaft can be generated rapidly. By changing the structure dimension, the crankshaft series design is achieved and the design and analysis can be improved. Therefore, it is helpful to improve the design quality and efficiency of crankshaft and shorten the design cycle.
